Battlefield Hardline Arrives in March, But Battlefield 5 Isn't Anytime Soon

Electronic Arts appears to be giving DICE a significant amount of time for the next major installment.

No Caption Provided

Taking a cue from Marvel, Electronic Arts mapped out the future of Battlefield for the next few years on a conference call today.

The delayed Battlefield Hardline from Visceral Games will arrive on March 17, while Star Wars: Battlefront is scheduled for "holiday 2015." While Battlefront isn't technically part of the Battlefield franchise, it's coming from DICE and will take the place of Battlefield in EA's portfolio for 2015.

The next major Battlefield won't be released until holiday 2016. That gives DICE a long time to figure out the future of a series requiring something awfully special to make up for Battlefield 4's disastrous launch.

I bought BF4 last night and am still shocked at how bad the lag is. Even the campaign stutters and freezes. Had no problem with BF3, which I absolutely loved. At least I didn't get the premium and waste some more money.

@hippie_genocide: I'm a huge Battlefield fan but I don't get the Bad Company fervor, is it just for the generally more interesting single player stuff? The multiplayer has been phenomenal is basically all of them which is what I care about most. Glad to hear they're going to take their time with the next proper BF game. Looking forward to Final Stand for BF4.

When Battlefield 2 came out I didn't have a gaming PC so I missed out on that. When Bad Company 2 came along, it was my first experience with the Battlefield style of online multiplayer. And I loved, loved, loved it. Really just the openness and free form "do whatever" style of play. I got really into the classes and addicted to the badges for vehicles and weapons. I know that it is not as deep as Battlefield 2, and the PC Master Race/Battlefield 2 Purists would come around and call it Battlefield: Babiez Edition and crap like that, but whatever I had a blast with it. I've since played 3 and 4 and for reason, I couldn't get into them like I did with BC2.

Oh, my we have to wait until March for 'FergusonPD - The Game'? Such a shame...or maybe EA could just cancel it now. How about that EA, just take "Ol' Yeller" behind the woodshed to provide some mercy.

Did they explicitly say "so we can fix it from being like Battlefield 4?" Because honestly, if they didn't say that's why, then Patrick and others saying this is all because they want to avoid a BF4 launch is silly.

They want to make money.

So, they put out BF: Hardline in March, Battlefront next holiday (to get people to shut up and to make more money), and then in holiday 2016, after talking non-stop for a year about it, BF5.

This isn't because they want to fix things. It's because they now have two holidays where they are guaranteed to get boatloads of money. Even if BF4 had done amazingly well at launch, they would have done this.

Also, whenever someone talks about BF: Hardline, I think "Yaaaaaay?".

OK Dice - you almost lost me with that last one, but it ended up being pretty fun.

Here's a tip to make this sell like hotcakes: Co-op campaign.

Even better, 4 player co-op bad company campaign...

Just sayin...
