Big Fallout: New Vegas Patch Hits PS3, Other Platforms Next Week

I can't even think of something in New Vegas that isn't getting tweaked by this thing.

Fallout: New Vegas just got a lot better, at least on the PS3, since the comprehensive patch Bethesda announced in early November is now available on that platform. The Xbox 360 and Steam versions of the patch are due to hit at some point next week.

In November, Bethesda said that this patch would squash save file corruption bugs and address a "number of other issues being reported." In a new blog post, the publisher outlines what's been fixed and addressed. Save file corruption is indeed one of the "top" fixes alongside much-needed companion tweaks.

No Caption Provided

Here's the full list. Note that this is pretty much a head-to-toe patch, addressing nearly every important system and mechanic in the game.

== TEASER ==Top fixes:
  • Companions now show up as waypoints on the map
  • Companions will always fast travel with you, unless told to wait or sent away
  • Fix: DLC error/save corruption
  • Fix: Entering the strip after Debt Collector causes crash and autosave corruption
  • Fix: Using Mojave Express dropbox can cause DLC warnings
  • Crafting menu now filters valid (bright) recipes to the top of the list
  • Weathered pistol no longer glitches when applying mods

In addition, this patch addresses issues with the following areas:
  • Pip-Boy Interface
  • Pre-Order DLC Items
  • Reputation System
  • Radio Stations
  • Companion fixes
  • Companion Quests
  • Repair Menu
  • Caravan
  • Weapons and Weapon Mods
  • Hardcore Mode
  • Perks
  • Skills
  • Crafting Recipes
  • Crafting Menu
  • Mojave Express
  • Chems/Addiction
  • Doctors
  • Vendors

And fixes for the following quests:
  • Ain’t That a Kick in the Head
  • By a Campfire on The Trail
  • They Went That-a-Way
  • My Kind of Town
  • Boulder City Showdown
  • Ring a Ding Ding!
  • King’s Gambit
  • For The Republic, Part 2
  • Render Unto Caesar
  • Et Tumor, Brute?
  • The House Always Wins
  • Wild Card
  • Beyond the Beef
  • GI Blues
  • How Little We Know
  • Oh My Papa
  • Still In The Dark
  • You’ll Know It When It Happens
  • Arizona Killer
  • Eureka!
  • Veni, Vidi, Vici
  • All or Nothing
  • No Gods, No Masters
  • Birds of a Feather
  • I Put A Spell On you
  • Come Fly With Me
  • That Lucky Old Sun
  • Don’t Make a Beggar of Me
  • The White Wash
  • Ghost Town Gunfight
  • Restoring Hope
  • Bleed Me Dry
  • Aba Daba Honeymoon
  • Tend To Your Business
  • Wang Dang Atomic Tango
  • Flags of Our Foul-Ups
  • Debt Collector
  • Talent Pool
  • Left My Heart
  • Someone To Watch Over Me
  • Hard Luck Blues

Provided these fixes work as intended out in the wild, it appears as if we'll be able to start saying that New Vegas is simply "fun" instead of "buggy, but fun." Are there any PS3 owners out there who've tested this out? Have any of you been holding out on New Vegas until a patch like this hit?

Huh.  I should probably start up a new game, then?  Since this patch fixes the first mission?

Does the patch fix the part where it freezes a lot or did they fix that in an earlier patch? That was my biggest issue while playing it.

while i managed somehow to beat the game when it was a bugfest i don't think i'll be going back to it any time soon even with this patch. The game was decent but i guess playing fallout 3 a month prior to this coming out burned me out a little.

That is why I will wait a couple months before even trying this game. A couple patches as big as this, and it should be good to go.

I remember I stopped playing mainly because the game constantly freezes. If they fixed this then I might go back to it.

too little to late. I traded in my copy when it got to the point that every 45 mins it would freeze up and crash my PS3 and I had to hard reset. The more time you put into the game the worse it got. I now will never buy a Bethesda game for full price again. They released it in an unfinished broken mess and they got my money for it which is not good enough so now it's second hand Bethesda games for me so they get none.

Wow......stopped playing a for a bit cause I was getting burned out but I think I will drop back in next week.
I was defending this game quite a bit from a the people complaining about the bugs - but I have to say that is an insane list of problems that they needed to patch.
If, as they say, the game is so big that they can never find all these problems in QC they should release the next one as a Beta to a 1000 or so people to try to catch these things because that is an embarassing list of faults to have to admit shipping a game with.

I think just a straight up "too late" would be a more appropriate description for your situation seeing as how these fixes read as pretty much a list of everything in the game :P

Thank you Bethesda! I've waiting for this patch forever. I had the stupid save file corruption issues, and haven't played for a good three weeks because of it.

I tend to play games with moral choices twice, once the way I want to play it (generally 'good') then go back and do all the fun evil stuff.  I was waiting for a patch before I go back in.  Once this has found it's way to my 360 I will gladly jump back into the Wastelands.  Though, I really should go back and finish up the Fallout 3 DLC too seeing as I bought it all but never played most of it.

My companions already fast travel with me and show up as waypoints. Does this mean the patch has already been applied to the Steam version?

I was having a lot of fun with this game until Veronica just disappeared. Haven't played it in weeks since that happened. I was just looking at trade-in value for this game on Amazon. I'll hold off until the patch. But if I do the patch and she doesn't come back, this game is getting traded in.

It's pathetic that they released such a broken game. I mean what the fuck, it's just Fallout 3's system recycled to add new story and quests. The basic mainframe should be stable.

I'm glad they finally got the companion thing right.  I never had the issue and then it happened once and after that it seems like I can't go 30 minutes without a companion vanishing.

The game left such a sour taste in my mouth, I'll have a hard time going back. I don't see any mention of them fixing the bug where hacking doesn't work if you've changed the default controls.  And my companion's weapon disappearing for no reason.

Unfortunately, this game already lost me a month and change ago when my save imploded. It doesn't matter to me if they fix it at this point. I'm done and will never touch the messy piece of shit again.

The length of the list of fixes, especially to quests, is fucking disgusting. I love Fallout but this game should not have shipped the way it was.

Awesome! That "weathered pistol" bug really bothered me. Every time I drew my pistol I'd be surrounded by a gigantic translucent red rectangular prism with a yellow exclamation point on the side.

Actually, now that I think about it... Maybe I don't want the patch. That bug was pretty awesome.

Don't think this patch fixes the freezing at least it's not mentioned it does, what's the point in fixing quests etc if you can't play because the game freezes all the damn time.

Thankfully, I bought Fallout 3 and New Vegas both at the same time, so by the time I'm done with (the, of course, buggy but fun) Fallout 3, New Vegas should be in the condition it should've been in on release day.

I will wait until they put a GOTY version of this out since they will be doing DLC for this game and will most likely have a GOTY edition anyway.  In the meantime, I can continue working my way through Fallout 3, whenever I get around to doing that.
