Burnout to the Future

McFly-inspired hovercar coming to Burnout Paradise.

Criterion has let loose a pair of screenshots of an upcoming car that will be part of a paid download coming in 2009. It's the Jansen 88 Special. Check this thing out:

Yes, it will shoot flames off of the tires when you boost. And you'll be able to enter and exit hover mode by clicking in the left stick. The car will be available for purchase on its own or as part of a set of four additional cars in the "Legendary" pack.

Criterion says it'll have more to announce about Burnout Paradise next week.

...hey, they should make this car the only one that can use the restart race feature.

I'm against DLC mostly (Hi, Beautiful Katamari!) but I will buy this.

Where we're going....we don't need roads.

Wow this is just epic.  If only they'd release a hoverboard with McFly on it..

At least it's not actually licensed with Back to the Future or DeLorean. That pretty much saves it from being totally sleezy. 'Cept that you have to pay for it. It should be unlockable or something.

But since the DeLorean runs on waste . . . . I must scientifically deduce that you get boost by hitting garbage cans!! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!! . . . Oh wait, it's not the DeLorean, it's the Jansen 88 Special ... damn it ... *sulks*

"...hey, they should make this car the only one that can use the restart race feature."

. . . epic awesome/terrible/awesome-again joke. XD I feel like a jerk for laughing.

No if it was the real Back to the Future  DeLorean that would make it all the more awsome.

Oh my god. Oh yes. Ohhhh yes.

I wonder if/how hover mode will effect handling? Less falling but also less jump? Sliding?

I will by this because I like Burnout and while I don't normaly by DLC extras like this they have given me enough free content this year and upgrades for the PS3 game that most do not have Custom Soundtracks and trophies that I really want to suport this game anyway I can.

Wow, that's pretty cool heh.

I am in full support of crazy cars I've never seen in racing games before.

Agreed. I hate how dlc has led to excessive nickle and diming but Criterion has definitely given it's fans more than enough free content over the life of this game to warrant me giving them hard earned coin to for some premium add-ons. Game devs take note, this is how dlc should work.

The important question here is: what happens when the car hits 88mph?

I like how Criterion keeps giving us this great content, but I think they're running out of ideas and this stupid hovercar is a stupid attempt at something fun and new.
