Crysis 3 Seems to Exist, Will Probably Be Announced Soon

EA inadvertently lets the nanosuit out of the lab a bit early via Origin.

As with all blockbuster franchises that people generally like (or are at least indifferent toward), the question surrounding the unveiling of next entry in Crytek's rather popular Crysis series wasn't so much one of "if" as "when." The answer? Right now! Sort of.

The odds of that price sticking are...poor, at best. But that bow is pretty bitchin', right?
The odds of that price sticking are...poor, at best. But that bow is pretty bitchin', right?

Though it hasn't been officially announced just yet, Crysis 2 publisher EA inadvertently let the nanotechnology-enhanced cat out of the alien infested bag a tad early last night, putting up a page for the game on the company's Origin system before quickly pulling it down. Not quick enough, however, as the Internet, ever-watching as it is, managed to snag the relevant screenshots before EA went into "pretend this doesn't exist" mode.

The listing has only been verified via screenshot (and the $49.99 price point for all versions listed suggests this was either an inaccurate test page or just a flat-out lie), but the likelihood of the game's existence stems from other evidence as well. CVG teased a major new project from Crytek just a month ago, and Swedish video game magazine Game Reactor has been teasing a cover for its forthcoming issue that would seem to point toward a new Crysis franchise entry.

All of this should, of course, be taken with a grain of salt until EA sends out an official press release of some kind, or at least until someone can verify that Game Reactor cover story. That said, the idea of a Crysis 3 existing isn't exactly hard to believe. Now, if you'd said that Crytek was finally going to be unveiling TimeSplitters 4, then I might have a little trouble believing you. But this? It's practically a foregone conclusion. (Sorry, TimeSplitters fans.)

Liked Crysis 2 but man was it a step down from Crysis 1. Please Crytek, get it right this time.

Copying the details since you didn't:

- Will be situated in a destroyed New York, which has become almost a jungle.
- Promise the best sandbox fps on the market.
- There will be a limited and Hunter edition of Crysis 3.
- PC, Xbox 360, PS3.
- Out in the spring of 2013.
- April 15 announcement.

Not going to lie, this actually sounds kind of fucking awesome.

Eh, I will wait for either a Steam release or a five dollars on Amazon sale for Crysis 3....and also finishing the other two games.

Saw this on gaf earlier today, very excited, especially if the New York jungle-ized setting is true. I loved Crysis 2 a whole lot, although it is a completely different game from Crysis 1, I still enjoyed it. Can't wait to see 3.

Meh, played the first one and that felt like a bit of a chore near the end. The tech is amazing, but the characters and story are just so dull.

Considering how long Crysis 2's been out for, I'm expecting nothing more than Crysis 2.5. Loved Crysis 1, and really enjoyed Crysis 2 for what it was, but if they have another main theme as irritating as 2's I will microwave the fucking disk. The amount they used that main theme during 2's campaign made me want to murder innocent fuzzy creatures.

You hear that Crytek? Think of the fuzzy creatures, you bastards!

Still prefer the gameplay of Crysis over Crysis 2. Sneaking through jungles on the hardest difficulty really made crysis for me. Shooting down a tree and having guards run over to investigate only to have me sneak up behind them and kill them with a duck throw to the back of the head is really damn satisfying.

I spent well over 100 hours just messing around in the sandbox editor.

I won't be buying anything on Origin, I made an exception for Battlefield 3.

A crossbow? I love the Crysis series, but damn if it's too bad what they did with the console versions of Crysis 2. Bugs everywhere, and one thing that hindered all platforms was somewhat bad voice acting. Also, put the prone feature back in. I think since I like Crysis so much, the lack of Timesplitters talk is OK. I still wish they made a fourth one though.

Well...Crysis 2 was good, but thoroughly underwhelming as a sequel. And here I was thinking the first half of Crysis 1 was the future of shooter design.

At this point, I can't be bothered. I'll wait for Timesplitters 4.
