Dreamcast Games Coming To 360, PS3 This Fall

Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will be the first games available.

You've got three crazy minutes to make all of your "crazy minute" jokes!

You knew it was coming. We knew it was coming. And today, Sega confirmed that, sure enough, you will be able to download ports of Dreamcast games on your 360 and PS3. Starting this fall, Sega will begin releasing games from the nearly 690 games in the Dreamcast's catalog through the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network (putting to bed earlier talk that the games would be sold through Microsoft's Game Room). Sega also revealed that the Dreamcast releases will be "enhanced ports" of the original games, with a higher resolution output for the games, surround sound support, and online leaderboards. Oh, and achievements and trophies to boot.

And what two classic Dreamcast games will Sega release first to show off the missed potential of its beloved console? Why, none other than Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi! Yep. Sonic Adventure. Crazy Taxi. Those sure are video games. They're... they're real winners.

In fact, we have some video demonstrating the high quality of both of these releases, straight from our Dreamcast tenth-year anniversary Quick Look Throwback extravaganza! Here's a little footage of that seminal 3D platformer, Sonic Adventure.

And here's our Quick Look of Crazy Taxi.

OK, maybe these two games don't serve as great examples of the Dreamcast's classic status (they just haven't aged that well). But there are some really cool Dreamcast games that would be really well suited for a downloadable rerelease, like Chu Chu Rocket and Power Stone. Which Dreamcast games do you folks want to see get updated for your 360 or PS3?

Why does everyone like to pretend that Sonic Adventure was a bad game? Crazy Taxi was good too. Trust me, I'm speaking as someone whose Dreamcast is still hooked up.

I loved the Shenmue games. I'd probably buy the first one since my DC died 2 years ago (R.I.P.) but I still have Shenmue 2 that came out on the original XBox, which just so happens to be backward compatible with the 360!

Quake 3 Arena (Quake Wars and Quake 4 & 2 are the only Xbox 360 titles)
Unreal Tournament (since UT3 was the only one to come to Xbox 360)
Vigilante 8 2nd Offense (yah i know theres a V8 title on XBLA)
i would like to see those games i know they came out on other platforms, along with Quake LIve on PC but i would like to have XBL capabilities to play with other people, im not a huge PC gamer, im more Console

Dude, yes! I already played the shit out of the Sonic Adventure games for the Gamecube, but now I get achievements and multiplayer? Sign me up! Oh, and Crazy Taxi kicks some ass, too.

I remember hearing a rumor about this, and I guess this confirms it, the same source also said PS2 games will also be ported to PSN.

I didn't know this was coming. This is awesome. As someone who never got to play a Dreamcast more than once, I'm really happy about this. Having achievements with them makes it even better. Still, I just hope they're not too expensive. I can't imagine the games being less than $10, and that's already pretty steep for games that most DC owners didn't even pay to play.

crazy taxi is one of the defining games of the dreamcast and sega of that era. and its still 100% playable and competent.
