English Afrika?

Reports out of France claim that Sony's "more safari, less track" photo-shooting game is headed to Europe in '09.

Professor Oak said he wanted pictures of Charizard, not... lions or tigers or whatever the hell these things are.
Professor Oak said he wanted pictures of Charizard, not... lions or tigers or whatever the hell these things are.
Saw over on Destructoid that CVG has unverified reports out a France-based event held by Sony's digital camera division that put an English version of the publisher's PS3 photo-safari-Pokemon-Snap-without-the-Pokemon game, Afrika, on display for the attending press. The rest of the report goes on to say that Sony reps claimed the game would be out in Europe in 2009.

This is great news. We imported the Japanese version of the game and I watch Ryan fumble his way through Japanese menus until he was able to snap terrible pictures of zebras. The game seems kind of bad, actually, but that's part of its charm. Perhaps this will eventually lead to a North American release, but thanks to the PS3's open stance on region lockouts, the 14 of us who care about the game could probably just get away with importing it. Or, in my case, re-importing it.

Read Ryan's impressions of the game for more information.

I think a better alternative is to put on some Animal Planet and snap pictures with your camera phone.

I find it quite disturbing that I am not only interested in this game, but I am seriously considering buying a PS3 with this being one of the reasons why.  Which is borderline retarded.

Umm... so Afrika is really secretly an N64 game that's not on rails? Lame. And I thought it was going to be an elephant hunting simulator too, where you kill game wardens or bribe them off and then sell the ivory for mad $. That sounds like a better game anyways.

Sony saw Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing and said, "That's how you sell copies, by making the game so bad, its great."

After just being at a safari in Africa taking pictures of animals, this game has lost some of its appeal to me lol.

Dear Sony, Had you left this alone and continued work on Eight Days, I might have bought a PS3 by now.

"Giant Bomb really needs to start shitcanning "first!!!111one" idiots."

I completely agree.

And, dude....shitcanning?

Did you read "And Then We Came to the End", too?

Afrika doesn't seem like my kind of game...I guess I'm not the kind of person who gets excited about taking virtual photos of virtual animals with true-to-life virtual hazards and virtual camera settings.

That being said, I can definitely see how someone who's really into photography and that kind of stuff could see this as a great opportunity to practice their camera skills with environments and situations that would be hard to get anywhere else.

The graphics look pretty immense. I am picking a PS3 up later in the year solely for MGS4 and Resistance. This game seems like a game for my little brother, as he loves safaris and things. Or maybe I will pick it up when it comes down in price. All depending on a Giant bomb review, ofcourse.

This actually seems like the perfect kind of game to make PSN downloadable-only in the US. It's that weird kind of Japanese wish-fulfillment game with its Gran Turismo-like detail in its cameras, only appealing to a select few; they've shown it at several US events and there has been buzz about it; and it's already being translated into English. I can't see this being a holiday hit so why not make a big promotional deal out of it by putting it up on the store exclusively?

Also: Pokemon Snap was awesome and I want to snap Beasts.

I don't see why so many people feel the need to hate on this game. If you don't like the premise, then don't even bother bitching about it. I don't like horse racing games, but you don't see me whining about how stupid they are on the Gallop Racer pages. Some people might actually WANT a different gameplay experience once in a while. A nice break from all the shooters and racing games.

Yep, me too. Of course, I am a photojournalist ;-)

If they bring it to Europe, surely they'll go ahead a bring to the US, correct?
