Far Cry 3 Exists, if These Resumes Are to be Believed

It's all LinkedIn's fault.

LinkedIn seems to be the new spoiler for game reveals these days, with resumes popping up all over the place that reveal projects we're not supposed to know about yet. One of the great hunters of LinkedIn's vast employment wasteland is Twitter user superannuation, who has quite the reputation for knowing "things" about "stuff" and for digging up tidbits of info regarding upcoming, unannounced projects.

Someone made this for the game's Wikipedia page. I thought it was kind of cute.
Someone made this for the game's Wikipedia page. I thought it was kind of cute.
His/her latest find seems to be evidence regarding Far Cry 3, a still-unannounced new sequel in Ubisoft's best-selling shooter franchise. Though some of the originally-cited resumes have since been scrubbed to axe any mention of the title, multiple Ubisoft programmers and animators were quoted as working on an "undisclosed First Person Shooter" with "exotic gameplay." One still left standing mentions work on an "unannounced Shooter AAA."

More damning would be a pair of resumes from stunt men who claimed to have worked on the title. Both Lee Villeneuve and Stephane Julien straight up list Far Cry 3 as a project they've each worked on.

This isn't the first time a third Far Cry game has flirted with acknowledged existence. All the way back in 2009, an Ubisoft scriptwriter told the UK's Official PlayStation Magazine that the game was in the works and looking "pretty exciting." Retailers have also accidentally listed the title at various points.

Ubisoft had yet to respond to request for comment as of this story's publish. With this fall marking the three year point since the last entry in the series, not to mention the heap of of fringe evidence that seems to keep piling up, it seems safe to assume that Far Cry 3 exists in some fashion. As for when Ubisoft might choose to reveal it? Well, I do seem to recall some manner of gaming convention coming up this June...

I'd be down for some more Far Cry.  Far Cry 2 had it's flaws but was still pretty darn fun.

Far Cry 2 was awesome; criminally underrated, and a technical marvel on consoles.

The respawning checkpoints was one the strangest decisions I've seen in a "triple A" retail game for a long time. Hopefully they fix it because the majority of the game was superb, the gunfights felt visceral and the AI kept you guessing.

There were aspects to Far Cry 2 that I absolutely loved, but the frustrating stuff really bogged it down and I ended up not finishing it. Hope they can make it truly great this time.

There was some annoying mechanics in 2, like how I had to drive while looking at a map, the malaria acting up, enemies that shoot you on sight, and weapon degradation but I look forward to a possible sequel.

After FC2 they have a lot of work to do to make this series good again. As a tech demo, FC2 was amazing. But as a video game, it failed big time.

@Bloodgraiv3: I doubt CryEngine will be a part of Far Cry 3 since Crytek has nothing to do with the franchise.

No game has had more prominent bullet sponginess in it. As if it wasn't bad enough that enemies took a thousand bullets on the EASIEST difficult, they could see straight through tall grass and shrubs that completely obscured them from you, and hit you with surprising accuracy, something that happened a lot out in the open grassy plains with gently rolling hills. The driving was alright, but everything in that game looks either flat or plasticy. It looks alright at the time, and the fire propagation was cool until you flew over it and it was just a perfect square... The editor was certainly impressive, and fun to dick around with. The first game was much better IMO, but who knows. Maybe this one will be different from the 2nd, maybe it won't. Here's to hoping.

You never know, Far Cry was originally made by Crytek, and Cryengine is now a multipurpose engine, its a good possibility.

If this is real, and they fix the stupid shit in Far Cry 2, I'll probably absolutely love this game.  The thing with Far Cry 2 was that enemies, despite having nothing resembling body armor, took a hell of a lot of shots to kill.  Their shitty, half broke down car was faster than your new Jeep you just stole from a city, and they NEVER stopped chasing you.  The place was a bit too open world, and it got tiresome around 10 hours in having to drive for so long to do any missions.  Collecting diamonds was alright, but it sucked that you had to do that in order to get any new weapons, especially after collecting a bunch of them.  Should just get all the diamonds from missions, and turn the diamonds into some collectible.  Lastly, the extremely retardedly unrealistic weapon degradation.  Christ, if weapons degraded to getting horribly jammed all the time that fast in real life... I don't even know.  But that was fucking dumb.

Also having malaria was just a convenient annoyance to have to do missions to get malaria pills even if you just want to run around and get diamonds/kill dudes.  Didn't add to the game.

OTHER THAN THAT... it was a pretty damn good game.

Far Cry 2 was flawed to the bone but for some reason I really liked it. The AI respawns were pain in the ass and the "open world" was mostly just web of tight canyons. There was just something about that world that sucked me in. When you were driving a boat towards the sunset or when you threw a molotov cocktail to an enemy base and the whole thing caught on fire and everything exploded... Trying to find cover to take your malaria medicine during a firefight is one gaming experience I will probably remember forever. I hope they can make an actually good game this time.

Far Cry 2 has some really great immersion. Biggest problems though had to be the enemy AI and the shooting, which I didn't feel was really all that great.

Far Cry 2 was fun, but I lost any interest in playing it after getting to the second part of the country. The game suddenly hit the reset button, like I was back at playing the game for the first time (mortars, anyone?). Also, there wasn't that much to do. Still, it was fun.

I loved Far Cry 2 was great to just play around in, I hope Far Cry 3 is more of the same massive open world. But it defiantly needs easier transportation, and more single shot rifles.

I really liked liked Far Cry 2, it's also one of those games that no one else makes. I found the whole thing incredibly immersive

Unfortunately I'd assume that if it does get made it will be absolutely nothing like FC2 and will fall more in line with all the other FPS out there so I'm not gonna lose any sleep if it doesn't come to be.

I'm game for another Far Cry. I have some good memories of FC2, however, all of the procedural weather and dynamic army positions was a bunch of crap, or at least I didn't take it slow enough to see if it was for realsies - I just pushed the left mouse button until everyone was dead, regardless of rank. It'd be cool to see them elaborate on similar ideas and, you know, make them work, but even if they make a generic shooter I'll be somewhat satisfied. One thing they definitely need to scale back on is the size. "50km of game world" is a good bullet on the back of the box, but a shitty experience while playing.

PS Also, how dumb is the name, "Far Cry"? It's just one of those things you say enough that you don't think about the actual words, but if you do, it's duuuuuuuumb.

@Marz said:

True, the story wasn't very involving, but I suggest you finish it. The game itself is playable sans sound, so I made it through the whole game listening to music and/or podcasts, but the final mission is pretty neat, complete with social commentary and deep philosophical message about, "Who's the real animal here?"
