Grand Theft Auto V Scheduled for Spring 2013

No mention of a PC release, despite pattern of recent Rockstar PC ports.

No Caption Provided

Even as this generation begins to draw to a close, there are several major games on the horizon, including Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar Games has confirmed its sequel will release next spring.

Well, “expected to launch” in spring 2013. That’s the language Rockstar Games used on its website, and as a company known for delaying games until they’re good and ready, it’s not surprising.

More information on GTAV should be available soon, as it’s supposed to be on the next cover on Game Informer, and one would expect that to begin the game’s official marketing campaign.

Today's announcement only mentions Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and nothing about a PC release. Grand Theft Auto IV was released for the PC, though, as was Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire. People are still peeved about Red Dead Redemption not getting a PC release.

I always feel that pc gamers get the raw end of the judgemental stick. If console gamers had a franchise start on the consoles, then it got moved to the pc as the primary platform - I think they might just get annoyed if we said "meh, who cares" when they voice their opinion on the matter.

With any luck the main character won't spend 20 minutes per cut scene lamenting about how he wants to just be a normal guy before going out and robbing a bank while killing 200 cops.

Yeah. I think I'm going to actually wait for reviews/reactions on this one before buying. Rockstar's stories/characters have been increasingly rubbing me the wrong way.

I really liked GTA4 ... but I friggin loved Sleeping Dogs ... so im not too excited, especially since, knowing rockstar, the PC version will be one year late and a terrible port.

thats not new though ... but it got way better the last 1.5/2 years. I can remember even the GB guys bashing the PC left and right up until recently.

I was hoping that this would be pushed out until next gen so we could have that GTA IV impact on gaming again. Hopefully there will be a PC port that does it justice like Sleeping Dogs. That game was amazing in all its DX11 goodness.

After booting up my 360 for the first time in about a year to play Assassin's Creed III today and being utterly disappointed with the horrible framerate, shadows, aliasing, and other graphical issues that could easily be fixed on a more powerful system, I'm not looking forward to anything new on consoles for this gen. Especially not an open world game that eats up more resources than your average fps.

Rockstar...why you gotta do this to me. Why do you hate me so much. You put out the jankiest, crappiest frame rate games of all time. I WONDER HOW YOU COULD FIX THAT PROBLEM.

R* just posted this in the comments on their site:

"Hey guys, glad to see so much enthusiasm about the release announcement. For those asking about the PC platform, we're currently focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game and don't have any details to share about a PC version at this time. Anyone that continues to spam the comments section will have their commenting privileges suspended."

I don't like the sound of that...

It's the Fruit OS, started back in Liberty City Stories. GTA IV had a parody of the iPhone that was shaped like a banana. So this is pretty much nothing new.

Metacritic says otherwise, they created the most amazing open world with Liberty City so fun to mess around in.

GTA IV had THE strongest modding community for any game since Half Life 2.

Not releasing V on the PC would be the dumbest move they could make. I will lose any respect I have left for R* if they do that. It's almost like they don't want to make money.

Im still pissed they never brang out RDR on PC what the graphics modders could of done with that game would of been amazing.

Yeah, I share the same feeling. I think it's that her facial features are made so realistic/airbrushed but the outline is still black like for cartoony characters. It kind of breaks it. Her cold blooded look doesn't help much, either.

Also, I think it's pretty pathetic that the PC gets shafted like this in this day and age. I love Rockstar to death, but we live in a world where this should no longer be acceptable. Inb4entitled

This news just reaffirm my fear that PC gaming is gonna be back to the stone ages again once the new consoles some out. For all the noises that pubs and devs make about PC gaming, all that will be forgotten once the sweet moneyhats start coming in as both MS and Sony try to gain a foothold on the market. GTA V is just a tip of the iceberg, potentially dark times ahead for PC gaming. Hope R* is just being cagey about the PC version with good reason and not trying to sweep the issue under the rug. Max Payne 3 had some iffy info leading up to its release but became a stellar PC port in the end. Hell, maybe they are realizing the consoles are so far behind PC that their trying to do something more with the PC version but dont want to announce anything concrete yet......maybe.

I've been looking forward to more GTA for years, now. I didn't really want it on the current generation, though. Why not just wait another year and make sure it's solid for the next generation? Otherwise we're just going to end up with a slightly better GTA IV. The current generation still has too many limitations in everything from content size to the processing power to allow for the complexity of multiple events happening online to produce a more realistic and lively environment to be in.

Instead, I guess we'll get it on the current generation of consoles just before the next generation (months?) after. And then four or five years later, maybe we'll get GTA VI, just before the end of the next console life-cycle. Meh.

So, been excited, but . . . not so much, now that I know it's definitely current-gen. With so many games being put out by Rockstar, why the god damn rush?

People who said GTA:IV sucks really need to die. I love GTA, and don't want to play it at a shit framerate at a low resolution with no draw distance. I want a PC version. Mods alone make the PC versions of previous GTA games better than their console counterparts IMO. Rockstar made a sloppy port of IV, but I have faith. Max Payne 3 was a great game great port.

We all adored GTA IV at the time, but over the years, it's the shit like all the dating simulation bullshit that really stuck with people. That alone has kept me from going back and playing GTA IV again (or playing the DLC for it, even though I've bought it . . . at least twice).

Doubt we will. Apparently the game is such an insane coding mess that it would be easier to simply make a new game than make sense of its guts. Sure, it sounds like an excuse, but considering the game's complicated production and Rockstar's track record with leaving shit in the files, it's probably true.

You're not missing much. Just several hours of staring at a horse's ass and doing a few ten minute long missions.

No PC release announcement. After defecating on the PC crowd with the crap that was GTA IV PC both with their shitty port and the rockstar social bullcrap plus GFWL that caused so much trouble, not porting Red Dead (a proper port that is) and making a Max Payne that as almost as much (unskipable, pace breaking and over effectised (?)) cut scene as gameplay (wich while classic was really effective but burdened with all combat scenes starting with you in front of X guys, so interesting ) I really can't bear that damn studio anymore.

And it saddens me because they have licenses that i use to really enjoy.

You're assuming they won't release it for the next gen, when it makes perfect sense to stagger the release and keep the install base of the current gen, then get people on board for the next one with a better version in a few months.

I don't know that I want a PC port of it unless it's truly amazing. (Frankly, I'd just as well play open-world GTA style games on a console, for all I care). Good point on the sales. That hadn't occurred to me. On the other hand, nothing better to start off selling consoles with than GTA (other than Madden and COD... blech).
