Grand Theft Auto V Scheduled for Spring 2013

No mention of a PC release, despite pattern of recent Rockstar PC ports.

No Caption Provided

Even as this generation begins to draw to a close, there are several major games on the horizon, including Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar Games has confirmed its sequel will release next spring.

Well, “expected to launch” in spring 2013. That’s the language Rockstar Games used on its website, and as a company known for delaying games until they’re good and ready, it’s not surprising.

More information on GTAV should be available soon, as it’s supposed to be on the next cover on Game Informer, and one would expect that to begin the game’s official marketing campaign.

Today's announcement only mentions Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and nothing about a PC release. Grand Theft Auto IV was released for the PC, though, as was Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire. People are still peeved about Red Dead Redemption not getting a PC release.

I'm pretty sure that's an artist rendition of Yvonne Strahovski. Dem eyes/cheekbones.

I do agree about the Red Dead Redemption point, I wish they would bundle all the DLC, maybe enhance the graphics and release the game on steam. I'm sure the game would sell.

As always, the PC release will follow approximately 6 months behind. Let's not report about this again, cheers.

As I expected. Those hoping for a 2012 release obviously haven't paid attention to when R* releases their games lately.

Max Payne 3 being a linear level-based game might explain why it turned out well on the PC.

Another +1 for PC. I really don't want to play it on the Xboxen. Also, I sure hope Mike Toreno makes a comeback in 5.

It's a shame they're not planning on doing a PC version already, I bet it'll come out about a year after the console versions.

I really hate how Rockstar treats PC gamers as second rate customers. I don't want to play GTAV on consoles with huge FPS dips and crappy controller stick aiming, IV was so much better on PC With 100+ FPS at all times and smooth aiming controls, not to mention mods.

I wish people would stop treating PC like it doesn't matter. At least the indie community is thriving on PC.

how the hell are you getting 100+ fps at all times for GTA IV for PC?

@captain_clayman: I'd like to think that 4 years of PC hardware advancement would automatically make GTA5 a "better" port than GTA4. Unless you have the same CPU and RAM you had 4 years ago (like myself), then it'll probably run just as poorly as GTA4, if not worse.

Nice! As for no PC version...meh, who cares.

Millions of PC gamers. Even with how shitty GTA IV was on PC, the mod community was huge and created a lot of awesome stuff. The modding potential for GTA V is huge especially if the vanilla game is technically sound.

Spend 4 years making the same game as the last one and another six months for a PC version that's poorly optimized. Repeat. Welcome to Rockstar North.

Don't care about GTA anymore. IV was disappointing on an extraordinary level while Saints Row the Third not only rose to the challenge but soared above anything GTA had ever previously accomplished.

That's why I'm waiting to see what GTA V brings to the table. I agree GTA IV was flawed (especially the PC version) but I really want to see another GTA game that freaking blows me away like san andreas did.

Thank god they're actually saying something this time to help stop the imbeciles from making all the wrong assumptions. This all but confirms that there will be a PC version, so people threatening to quit playing Rockstar games, and whinging about how PC gamers are supposedly treated like second class citizens can shut the fuck up.

Why would there be a mirror in the middle of the beach? I am cautiously optimistic about this game, this better not be GTA IV all over again, probably my least favorite GTA to date.

Yeah, the game tells you that within the first couple of minutes you acquire the phone. No one will bother you ever again. It's great when you want to do stunt jumps or track down pigeons or just mess around with no worries. Also, no relationship status will be affected when your phone is on silent mode.

I have no idea how I missed that. Thank you so much for enlightening me!

I'm sure we'll get a PC version at some point, it's just a matter of when and how good the port will actually be. Max Payne 3 had a great PC port so I have a little hope (not a lot though) that Rockstar will do a good job with GTA V. I still occasionally reinstall GTA IV on my PC and mess with mods. It'll be a tough wait, but I've been a PC gamer for a long time so I'm used to it. I just wish that they would confirm (or deny if that is actually the case) that there is a PC version.

After how they treated the LA Noire PC release I think I'll be grabbing the console version. The LA Noire for PC had some graphical issues which really grated on my nerves. Not to mention GTA4 on the PC as well, which had it's set of issues.

As an aside, I really liked the dating/friendship stuff in GTA4. I thought it added some interesting stories. Especially Brucie, who just makes me laugh every time I play.

People who said GTA:IV sucks really need to die. I love GTA, and don't want to play it at a shit framerate at a low resolution with no draw distance. I want a PC version. Mods alone make the PC versions of previous GTA games better than their console counterparts IMO. Rockstar made a sloppy port of IV, but I have faith. Max Payne 3 was a great game great port.

We all adored GTA IV at the time, but over the years, it's the shit like all the dating simulation bullshit that really stuck with people. That alone has kept me from going back and playing GTA IV again (or playing the DLC for it, even though I've bought it . . . at least twice).

Patrick is right: People are still peeved about Red Dead Redemption not getting a PC release (myself included). However we did get one for L.A. Noire so I was happy about that.

I fully expect the PC version will come 6 months after the console versions. This has been the way of things for Grand Theft Auto since at least San Andreas. I don't like it, but that's the way Rockstar have chosen to roll.

I've been looking forward to more GTA for years, now. I didn't really want it on the current generation, though. Why not just wait another year and make sure it's solid for the next generation? Otherwise we're just going to end up with a slightly better GTA IV. The current generation still has too many limitations in everything from content size to the processing power to allow for the complexity of multiple events happening online to produce a more realistic and lively environment to be in.

Instead, I guess we'll get it on the current generation of consoles just before the next generation (months?) after. And then four or five years later, maybe we'll get GTA VI, just before the end of the next console life-cycle. Meh.

So, been excited, but . . . not so much, now that I know it's definitely current-gen. With so many games being put out by Rockstar, why the god damn rush?

It's coming out five years after the last one, I'd hardly call that rushing.

And less than a year longer and they could benefit from a lot more power. Why invest so much time and probably another hundred million bucks and not just wait until they can really do something amazing with their investment?

because money? zero people own a ps4 or the next xbox, but a ridiculous amount own a current generation console. i just hope a pc version isn't too far off...

I don't know that I want a PC port of it unless it's truly amazing. (Frankly, I'd just as well play open-world GTA style games on a console, for all I care). Good point on the sales. That hadn't occurred to me. On the other hand, nothing better to start off selling consoles with than GTA (other than Madden and COD... blech).

You're assuming they won't release it for the next gen, when it makes perfect sense to stagger the release and keep the install base of the current gen, then get people on board for the next one with a better version in a few months.

No PC release announcement. After defecating on the PC crowd with the crap that was GTA IV PC both with their shitty port and the rockstar social bullcrap plus GFWL that caused so much trouble, not porting Red Dead (a proper port that is) and making a Max Payne that as almost as much (unskipable, pace breaking and over effectised (?)) cut scene as gameplay (wich while classic was really effective but burdened with all combat scenes starting with you in front of X guys, so interesting ) I really can't bear that damn studio anymore.

And it saddens me because they have licenses that i use to really enjoy.
