Here's What You'll Get For Your Old Xbox 360

Looking to trade-in your old junk for Microsoft's redesigned Xbox 360? Check out the prices on GameStop's promotion.

Ever the opportunistic retailer, GameStop will be running numerous trade-up offers for those who want to cash-in their old Xbox 360s towards one of Microsoft's new sleeker, shinier, smaller, and quieter 360s

Games Are Evil recently acquired an alleged internal company list of peripheral and hardware trade-in values, dated for the June 15, which should be valid at your local store if you choose to hop on the 360 slim bandwagon--and use your old hotness as part of the payment.

No Caption Provided
== TEASER == The trade-In price list:

Systems
  • All -- $100

HDDs

  • 20 GB HDD -- $30
  • 60 GB HDD -- $35
  • 120 GB HDD -- $40
  • 250 GB HDD -- $50

Memory Cards
  • 64 MB Memory Card -- $10
  • 256 MB Memory Card -- $14
  • 512 MB Memory Card -- $18

Adapters
  • Wireless adapter  – $40
  • Wireless N adapter (disc required) – $50

Controllers
  • Wired Controller – $20
  • Wireless Controller – $25

As noted by Donny M at Microsoft's E3 media briefing, these built-in Wi-Fi and 250GB HDD-equipped 360s are already being shipped to retail stores. As a result, Games Are Evil's GameStop source says reserves are limited to just the first shipment. Also, the source believes there might be a supply problems. To be frank, this seems a little like second-hand speculation, so do check in with your local shop to see what's up.

UPDATE:
GB user Bman3737 spoke to a dude at his local GameStop about this deal. The console trade-in will require one controller and all the cables. And according to him, this promotion kicks off today (June 17) and runs through July 11.

I just thought about this... I feel like the plastic-y 360 controllers no longer match the sleek console. New controllers need to be designed!

If they do this in Canada and I figure out a way to format my HDD to get rid of the credit card data- I might just jump on this since I have a system ($100), 20GiG HDD ($30), Wifi adaptor ($40), and 2 white controllers ($50).

Does anyone know how long the deal will run for?  I'm gonna be overseas for the next 3 months but when I come back I'd really like to get one of the new 360's.

Sadly, I'm way too cheap to spend any money on this new console. Looks NICE though.

@billyhoush:  While you should always reformat your hard-drives before trading them in, at Gamestop we have to ship our hard drives out to some facility for them to be SUPER DUPER wiped of all information, we can't just sell them right after you trade them in. So, your info is safe (and if it isn't, think how much money you could make suing the pants off of Gamestop!)

For some reason I also find this tempting but seriously people look: You'll be giving Gamestop a shit ton of revenue, and you'll still be losing $100 in the process.

@SleepyDoughnut:  Deal is alright, considering your alternative to earn back on the system is to spend your time and resources trying to sell your Xbox... and a ton of people are excited for the slim so it's a buyer's market.

Hmm I was thinking of buying a shiny new 360 and then give my old one to my friend for his birthday, but if these trade-in prices are to be believed I may be inclined to buy him a shiny new 360 as well. I sure hope so, the money you get back is quite generous considering this is Gamestop after all, especially if you own a wireless adapter like I do.

The Gamestop website seems to imply that one controller is required to trade-in the system, and that the value for that controller is included in the $100 trade-in value. I take that to mean that only an additional controller will net you that $20-$25.

Just something to note when you're tallying things up.

Also, the manager of my local store says that the 10% bonus credit applies only to accessories, not to the system itself. Read: "You want ten extra dollars? Fuck you! Don't you remember what store you're in? Even if I gave it you, I'd force you to apply it to Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions and Battle Tag pre-orders.... that is unless your Game Informer subscription is almost over."

Damn it. This is tempting, but getting rid of my perfectly good 360 for $100 seems wrong. The new 360 seems so perfect though. Ugh.

New Xbox 360 revision should be referred to as "Stealth" not "Slim."  Major selling point for many is that it's quieter, and it's design resembles a stealth fighter.

Tempting. I've got a old 20GB drive to throw in on top of the console itself. But my current 360 is still functional, and I'm just going to hope the disc drive holds out until a price drop. I think $299 is too high a price if they're eliminating the Arcade SKU.

I think I'm going to just wait in case my 360 dies or something. If it does I'll just pick up a new console on Microsoft's warranty, and it's all good. I don't want to have to spend more money to get another console when my current on is entirely functional.

Gee, I hadn't considered trading in my current system...  Upgrading just got put back on the table.

I have a one year old arcade which has run perfect so far, and a 20gig HDD, and 1 good controller, and 1 worn controller.  I could put a pretty good dent in the price, get the new unit, and that sweet sweet HDD real estate.

at my gamestop the guy said i wold get 105 for the system. i going to trade my old xbox 360 because its freaking loud i always have to install games to the hard drive because im afraid the disc drive is going to stop working. i need a bigger hard drive because i only go a 20gb hard drive and i always have to delete stuff  plus i don't want to pay 100+ for a bigger hard drive. i also got a couple of sports games that i need to trade in with the vision cam and wireless adepter. i think i will be under $100 or 110 witch i don't mind paying for.

Does the trade in apply if my 360 is only a 60gb? Seems like based on the average 360 harddrive price they'd actually be losing money if I only have to pay $100 for a new system and 190 extra gigs.

It is very true that right now it's a buyers market regarding all things Xbox. With so many options to trade in, private sell or just straight upgrade and keep your old system for something else it's all too tempting.

The only annoying thing is we all know that we will buy the new XBox 360 250Gb but come October - November there will be so many better value Kinect + Xbox 360 250Gb + new game bundles, then throw in the trade-in, that anyone buying the new console now may look back and wish they could have held out till then.

BUT THAT WON'T HAPPEN :P

It indeed only comes with composite cables (according to IGN). I don't know about the compatibility of the old cables, but  Amazon is selling these awesome HDMI cables for 21 cents, so I got one of those instead!

I could SELL a used 120gig HDD on ebay for more than $40... but I guess Gamestop always was a bit cheap when it came to buying back stuff.

it'd probobly make more sense if I was selling my current launch-window Xbox 360... but I'm keeping it, both for novelty value and for that sweet copy of Hexic HD on my original 20gig HDD

I'm most likely just gonna buy the Xbox 360 Slim, transfer everything from my 120gig HDD, and just sell that.

Check the link, the bottom of the picture of the letter addresses customers who'll want to hold onto the HDDs first to transfer data, so they'll probably have something in place for that. As a 20GBer myself, I think I'll be fine transferring profiles and saves over through USB and redownloading the rest.

I hope the transfer process is smoother this time around, for a disc that was supposed to not be region locked, it sure did pop up with an error message telling me my region was not supported one time too many!

It's funny, I wanted a bigger HDD for so long, so I finally bit the bullet and got the 250 GB, and then they Saturned us as released a new 360!  (I'd assumed a new 360 would come in the fall, and I wasn't willing to wait that long.)

I'm still happy with my current 360 though because it's quiet enough with the disc installed and I can cart around my hard drive if I want to take my downloads and saves around to other Xboxes.

I wouldn't even be considering it if my current 360 didn't make so much NOISE. Curious to hear exactly how silent they have gotten it.

Edit though I'm in Europeland so this deal doesn't apply to me, my elite would net me $250,- So an upgrade would only be 49,99? Seems somewhat of a steal. Or doesn't the new one come with two controllers?

I don't think its such a bad deal for controllers, low storage HDD's. I could get 50 bucks for my 20GB and couple of controllers. 100 bucks for a console can suck, if your current 360 is still new and in good shape. But If you have an older one about to bite the dust, it works in your favor.
