Here's What You'll Get For Your Old Xbox 360

Looking to trade-in your old junk for Microsoft's redesigned Xbox 360? Check out the prices on GameStop's promotion.

Ever the opportunistic retailer, GameStop will be running numerous trade-up offers for those who want to cash-in their old Xbox 360s towards one of Microsoft's new sleeker, shinier, smaller, and quieter 360s

Games Are Evil recently acquired an alleged internal company list of peripheral and hardware trade-in values, dated for the June 15, which should be valid at your local store if you choose to hop on the 360 slim bandwagon--and use your old hotness as part of the payment.

No Caption Provided
== TEASER == The trade-In price list:

Systems
  • All -- $100

HDDs

  • 20 GB HDD -- $30
  • 60 GB HDD -- $35
  • 120 GB HDD -- $40
  • 250 GB HDD -- $50

Memory Cards
  • 64 MB Memory Card -- $10
  • 256 MB Memory Card -- $14
  • 512 MB Memory Card -- $18

Adapters
  • Wireless adapter  – $40
  • Wireless N adapter (disc required) – $50

Controllers
  • Wired Controller – $20
  • Wireless Controller – $25

As noted by Donny M at Microsoft's E3 media briefing, these built-in Wi-Fi and 250GB HDD-equipped 360s are already being shipped to retail stores. As a result, Games Are Evil's GameStop source says reserves are limited to just the first shipment. Also, the source believes there might be a supply problems. To be frank, this seems a little like second-hand speculation, so do check in with your local shop to see what's up.

UPDATE:
GB user Bman3737 spoke to a dude at his local GameStop about this deal. The console trade-in will require one controller and all the cables. And according to him, this promotion kicks off today (June 17) and runs through July 11.

Does anyone know if the new 360 comes with a way to transfer your memory on your hard drive to the new hard drive or is that bought seperately.

Yo, it's live: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/specialty/tradeins

Valid through July 11.

One piece of the terms worth noting.  It's $100 for the system AND a controller.  Oh, and you have to apply it to the purchase of a Slim.  That sort of a "well, duh" but thought it'd be worth spelling out if someone was looking to replace an old system with a new Elite or Arcade or something.

I have a spare Pro and an extra 20 GB HDD.  Not sure if I'll bother upgrading, as my new Arcade still has like 18 months worth of warranty on it and I don't plan on getting Kinect.  Would be cheaper to just get a wireless adapter (though my ethernet cable reaches the system now).

Tempting...  But how do you get all your hard drive content moved over if you have to trade in your old Xbox to get the deal on the new one?! Apparently a large external USB drive to backup all your stuff would be required.

thsi is surprisingly tempting

i had all but given up on my (3rd) 360, sick of red rings and return policies and warranties criss-crossing and just the general bs that's come with owning a 360 thus far, but this has got my brain gears turning again.  up until i saw this deal i was just hoping my elite would hold out long enough to play reach and gears 3

but if i can trade my elite and get basically half off on a brand new one....might have to make a trip to gamestop

my interest in the 360 is possibly renewed

So if I sell My Elite, does that mean I get $140, or is it $100 because the Elite always comes with a 120GB HDD?

I just talked to a guy from GameStop to clarify some questions:
1) The $100 for the system: you must trade a controller with the console, as well as the cables.
2) If you have a large hard drive and are looking to transfer over using the Xbox 360 transfer cable, you can keep your current hard drive, buy the new Xbox, and after you transfer your data you can go back to GameStop and they will honor your trade-in (for 7 days).
3) This is not just for the first shipment; this sale starts on 6/17 (today) and ends on 7/11.

Hope that helped some people!

I wonder if they will do this in Europe. I would be happy to buy a new Xbox for less than €200.

Why would you trade in your HDD? Would need to back it up first so I wouldn't lose all my stuff.

two Xboxes is nice. RDR on two consoles, running Free Roam is the new Rock Band party. Only involving more donkey punching.

As much as I don't like Gamestop at times, this actually is a pretty good deal.  Kind of pissed I just sold my wireless adapter on Amazon for a little less after the vig.  At least I'll know it won't be for sale used at Gamestop for $79.

No way I am going to pay $120 after I trade in my Xbox 360, 120 GB HDD, and Wi-Fi adapter for a slightly smaller and quiter Xbox 360. I would rather purchase two more games.

an update for every one, the Edge card if you have it increases the value on this promotion for accessories, so it should increase the trade in value of the hard drive, controllers, network adaptor and memory cards.
Confirmed this at my local gamestop.

" Not totally clear on how the transfer kit is meant to work if you no longer have the original 360 to place the old hard drive in. "
it works backwards.
you can use the transfer kits but it works backwards in that you hook the older hard drive to the transfer cables sata port, then you hook the usb up to the new 360 and it transfers to information from the older drive to the new 360.

I was needing to buy a Wi-Fi adapter next week anyway, so I pulled the trigger on this deal today. No new 360's in stock, but I'll get to pick it up tomorrow. I had a 2 year old Pro with a 60 gig HD that was having some freezing issues (possible red ring eminent?)

Got a total of $174.50 for the system, wireless controller, 60 gig HD and headset. Another $140 including tax for the wireless, 4x bigger HD, fresh controller and more reliable chipset made this a steal for me.

Also, the clerk at my GS did not read the promo right and gave me the $25 for the one controller (didn't include it with the system). I didn't realize the $100 was supposed to include a controller till I re-read it here so YMMV.

As tempting as this is I think I'll pass. I'd rather wait and see how these new models are than jump in head first and buy version 1 hardware. I learned my lesson there with the PS2. Damn it I really would like a quieter box with built in wireless though.

This deal is horrible. I don't see how anyone can do this unless they are currently having problems with their own 360. 100 dollars u.s. for the system AND the controller? That is a stupid, blatant rip off.

I'm curious... I can't transfer my licenses again until next year
BUT does that mean I'll have to be connected to xbox live everytime I want to use dlc/add ons?
or will i have to put my profile on a thumb stick and switch between two xboxes whenever I want to play my older dlc/addons?

I got better prices, in cash, for my old stuff at a local used game store.  Every big city has them...

Does anyone know if Gamestop will take 3rd party video cables with the console? I have some S-video cables that I don't need. I'd like to keep my component ones since It will be a few days before I get my HDMI cable.

This is tempting but there's nothing wrong with my current 360. I'll just wait for it to die before I buy a slim.

Anyways, by the time my current one dies out I'm sure there will be a price cut on the slim. Probably some more upgrades too, like a bigger harddrive, shrunken chip sets.

If you don't own an  Xbox, are looking for a new Slim on this deal, and are seriously looking to game the system on two companies:

Amazon is selling an Arcade w/ controller and Viva Pinata / BK Nuts and Bolts for $150 with a $50 credit off future games.  Purchase said bundle, trade it for $100 off a new Xbox at Gamestop.  You'll end up with two great games free and $50 to spend on a new Xbox game on Amazon.

@Auswin: Oh, don't worry I am by no means calling you guys out. It is gamestop's 'deal' that enrages me. $100 dollars for everything that originally came with the console (wires, controller, etc) is riiiidiculous! Especially considering that some people payed 299 for their console. It just drives me crazy. No bad intentions towards any GB members intended...its just...arrggg!!!!

I dont believe some of you are actually considering this to be a good deal, maybe I dont have disposable income like the rest of you. I have a 360 that recently got back from the E74 error and I will keep that bastard until the 3 year warranty is up. Im not buying another xbox and I have one that works perfectly fine.
