Here's What You'll Get For Your Old Xbox 360

Looking to trade-in your old junk for Microsoft's redesigned Xbox 360? Check out the prices on GameStop's promotion.

Ever the opportunistic retailer, GameStop will be running numerous trade-up offers for those who want to cash-in their old Xbox 360s towards one of Microsoft's new sleeker, shinier, smaller, and quieter 360s

Games Are Evil recently acquired an alleged internal company list of peripheral and hardware trade-in values, dated for the June 15, which should be valid at your local store if you choose to hop on the 360 slim bandwagon--and use your old hotness as part of the payment.

No Caption Provided
== TEASER == The trade-In price list:

Systems
  • All -- $100

HDDs

  • 20 GB HDD -- $30
  • 60 GB HDD -- $35
  • 120 GB HDD -- $40
  • 250 GB HDD -- $50

Memory Cards
  • 64 MB Memory Card -- $10
  • 256 MB Memory Card -- $14
  • 512 MB Memory Card -- $18

Adapters
  • Wireless adapter  – $40
  • Wireless N adapter (disc required) – $50

Controllers
  • Wired Controller – $20
  • Wireless Controller – $25

As noted by Donny M at Microsoft's E3 media briefing, these built-in Wi-Fi and 250GB HDD-equipped 360s are already being shipped to retail stores. As a result, Games Are Evil's GameStop source says reserves are limited to just the first shipment. Also, the source believes there might be a supply problems. To be frank, this seems a little like second-hand speculation, so do check in with your local shop to see what's up.

UPDATE:
GB user Bman3737 spoke to a dude at his local GameStop about this deal. The console trade-in will require one controller and all the cables. And according to him, this promotion kicks off today (June 17) and runs through July 11.

Still not convincing me to abandon the one I already have. I'll probably upgrade if my current one red rings, though.

Spending $170 would be much more palatable than $300, I just wish that wasn't a promotion, and as such would always be offered so I wouldn't need to make a snap decision. Besides, it might be nice to have two Xboxes around, and cleaning out the hard drive would be kind of a pain, since I wouldn't trust the Gamestop people to do it themselves.

Assuming all my math is right and it gets the OK from the Gamestop manager, I should get about $220 for my old Xbox. Since the Xbox is primarily my brothers, I mentioned it to him and he's excited to hopefully get a new Xbox tomorrow.

This. But I won't consider doing this until my xbox red rings. It's only 3 years old anyway.

@mlipkin: Pretty sure it's only towards a new trade-in. I was working off a picture of an e-mail, but that wording is halfway in there and corroborated in the post.

I think its better to give your old 360 to someone who needs it instead of doing a trade-in judging from possible problems from this process.

Spending $130 for what appears to be a guarantee against the redring monster sounds like a deal to me. The only problem is I would be left with white controllers. Hmm...

I just sent my two year old Elite in for repairs. Payed $99/US and got a Jasper Motherboard Xbox 360 in return, brand fucking new. I'll stick with that for a while.

I totally would do this because it would mean paying less than a $100 for the new Xbox 360. However, I still have a pretty pricey warranty under the Xbox 360 I currently own, so I'll keep it until that is over with.

Wait, I get the new 360 for $100.00 if I trade my old one in, or $100.00 off? I assume that's the discount, because a $10.00 360 for a memory card would be pretty cheap.

those prices aren't bad considering I can find them at used electronic/game stores for relatively the same price.

Is anyone else worried about red rings or purple rings or however this thing is going to let us know it just completely f-ed up? I would love a new xbox that was quiet and sleek, but I can't believe this thing is going to work right out of the gate.

Yeah, I think I'll stay with my current 360.  No real reason to trade in as it works like a charm and I bought the extended warranty for it.  Well, that and I have no interest whatsoever in that glossy nightmare.

This is only towards the purchase of the New 360. I received the email stating this and the deal is under the Deals option on Gamestop.com. As much as I want to do this, they will most likely be sold out by the time I get everything together and get over there tomorrow or Friday. I'll just sell my old one.

My current 360 is kind of crapped out. You wouldn't know just testing it for a few minutes but it locks up at seemingly random times. If I trade it in for the new Xbox, am I that terrible of a person?...

This is probably a really good time for people to be buying Xbox 360s on the second hand market as well. I bet some people are dumping their old ones for some really low prices.

That's some morale dilemma. I've got a wired controller that works but only if you keep the cord perfectly still and don't move it much. Considering trading that in.

Well, it looks like I could total up $200 and then pay $100 more to get the new 360. However, I wouldn't be able to trade in my hard drive until after I transferred my data to the new one...

That's...actually really good.

I mean, if you've got a 360 with at least a 120GB HDD, two wireless controllers, and a wireless network adapter, you are looking at only paying about $50-$70 out of pocket.  That's a HELL of a deal to me.

@Green_Incarnate:  If the clerk doesn't test the system you could get away with it, however systems are usually checked to see if they boot and read discs.

It is worth noting that those looking to trade in their old 360s for the new design, may want to look into any promotions that will net more trade value. I'll be keeping my eyes pealed since I tend to want new shiny things.

I did the math out, and with a trade in of my console, wireless adapter, 1 controller, Mario Galaxy and Dirt 2, I could get a new 360 for 50-75 dollars (depending on whether I get the 25 dollar hardware bonus in addition). Sounds good to me.

I work at a Gamestop and can confirm the prices on that list are legit.
Regarding reserves, We were told that we CANNOT take reserves on the new 360s, period, regardless of whether or not they are the first shipment or any ones after that. I guess your mileage may vary depending on your store though.
As for supply problems... My store is an extremely low volume store and we're only getting FOUR of the new 360s this Friday, and we have no idea when we'll get more beyond that. I worked for 8 hours today and had TONS of inquiries about trading in to get the new system, or people wanting to buy their first 360 and wanting it to be the new Slim/Super-Elite/Cancer-Curing Xbox. So, again, your mileage may vary depending on your store, but I know we're not going to have NEARLY enough to meet demand.

...man, that comment sounded way more corporate advertisey than I meant it to be :/

Same, I don't have enough USB storage lying around to reformat to X-Box storage, so dunno what I would do with all my save data.
