@hollitz: speaking of The Thing and this has got hardly anything to do with video games, but there is a The Thing short story about the event in The Thing from The Thing's point of view. it's called The Things and it's written by award winning biologist-gone-hard-scifi-author Peter Watts and it's free to read here http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/watts_01_10/. Watts would later write Crysis: Legion, which i haven't read, but if you want more by him i suggest Blindsight and the Rifters trilogy (all four books are free on his website). sorry, this was a complete tangent, but the more you know and stuff.

This list is.. A-mazing. I love the fact that the number 6 on the list is actually John's favorite.

It's a decent enough game. I ran into a game breaking bug about 3 hours or so in and just didn't feel like starting over though. Was at launch, so hopefully it's been patched now.

Still amazed to see this on the site. John Carpenter and Giant Bomb are pretty high up there on the "things that give my life meaning" top 10 list. WORLDS ARE COLLIDING.

Does anybody else wonder what's up with the Far Cry 3 page? It says "First released on January 13, 2013", but every registered release for it says late November or early December 2012, there isn't a single release in January 2013 for it? I'm not going to disagree with putting it on this year's GOTY list, since it was released after all that stuff was finalized last year, but the release dates on the wiki page confuses me.

John Carpenter. I am impressed.

He is one of the people and things that embody my favorite time of life, the 80's. And his sound tracks rocked.

I does not at all surprise me that Remember Me is on his list. His values are going to be a reflection of his life work. Even if some things fall short, I get the idea that game has a uniqueness in it's concepts, art, and protagonist.

I've got several of Carpenters movies on my favorites list, so wicked that he's a gamer as well. Not too shabby a list!

My uneducated guess is that the music in "Remember me" is a large part of why Mr Carpenter likes it so much.

I was looking at the list and thinking "why Dead Space 3?" for a solid minute before realizing it. Of course John Carpenter would like Dead Space 3, it was basically made for him.

Just showed my brother who is a huge Carpenter fan but who has zero interest for video games (he's actually pretty insulting about it - otherwise a good guy). He had no idea how to respond - did a literal double take and then asked if this was real. Awesome!

Damn, Remember Me!

I'm sorry, but I loved that game. Oozing with atmosphere, a solid storyline (albeit the narrative can be problematic at times due to the localization), an absolutely incredible soundtrack and the best, yes, BEST art design I have ever seen in a game. It's gorgeous.

John Carpenter is an awesome, awesome man.

God damn do I love Carpenter.

It's awesome that John Carpenter loves video games. It's more awesome that it finally took Patrick Klepek to figure that awesome tidbit out. Kudos, and great list!

He could make the best Dead Space movie oh god. And Remember Me really is pretty solid other than the combat just being unremarkable. Super cool visuals at certain points, and the time mechanic though sparse is super interesting conceptually. I admittedly tend to like even shitty cyberpunk though so take that rec with a grain of salt. Hell, I even like Escape from LA.
