Mass Effect 2 For PS3 Hitting In January 2011

Here's a big release date for PS3 owners: IGN reports that Mass Effect 2 for PS3 will ship to retailers on January 18, 2011, just a week shy of the date the sci-fi RPG originally launched for the Xbox 360 this year. 

As previously reported, ME2 PS3 will ship with multiple extras, including a digital comic book that'll act as a bridge between the first and second game. It'll also ship with multiple pieces of on-disc DLC. Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi's Stolen Memory, and the Dragon Age: Origins Blood Dragon Armor bonus will all be included. 

According to IGN, the lackluster Zaeed character DLC, as well as the Firewalker mission pack, will be made available on the PS3's version of the Cerberus Network, too. Both of these downloads were free for 360 owners of the game, so there's a good chance they'll be free for PS3 owners as well.

The Dragon Age Armour is a bit of a weird thing to throw in but hey, extra stuff. Still unsure of how they're gonna deal with the ME1 events that are tied to this. I'll probably pick this up despite already having it on PC.

Wonder if that motion comic will ever be made for general interest public consumption. Other than the assumed YouTube posting that is.

I'm ready to double-dip and buy this on release if the port job is like they promised - identical but hopefully better than the 360.

Isn't that a same date as Little Big Planet 2? If so, does Bioware have something to hide about the game?

Zaeed might have been 'lacklustre' if you had to pay for him but his Loyalty Mission was free so where's the beef?

Zaeed's quest was a good change of pace too.

LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, and Mass Effect 2 all for the PS3 in Jan, how is someone going to decide between the three?

Mr. Z is a very cool character. Rough and tough as opposed to 99% of the 'cast' in that game.

My excitement to play this game is very high. I hear there is lots of sex....I mean "conversations"....

as much as i liked ME2 on PC and 360, 60$ for a year old game it's kinda awful, i'm probably getting this version too, but not at full retail price

I've never understood why all the firmware jokes for PS3. There is only mandatory updates every couple months and they take like 30 seconds. What is the big deal, individual game patches can get a bit fucked but that is typically EA games. It isn't Sony's fault DICE puts a 1.5gb patch on for Bad Company 2 or Criterion put a half hour worth of updates to Burnout.

" @HubrisRanger: Little big planet 2, one of the biggest if not THE biggest release for Sony in the winter/spring is coming out on the same day of that  big "exclusive" (I know it's not a exclusive but the 360 version is old story by now).   Normaly, when a company decide to release a big game on the same day of another even bigger game, they do it to hope that their game will not get all the attention in the media. Kind of sucks that had it put out for so long.Even though there will still be people who go "Whatever man it will come to PS3 eventually " it's almost a year and a half later.By now if you wanted to play the game that bad you would of long ago or you already know the plot twists.

I really hope that the game annouced at the VGAs tomorrow is not Mass Effect 3. I really want BioWare to take their time with the end of the trilogy and see what they can do it make ME3 better than ME2.

I hope their Cerberus Network shit dies off. Why couldn't they simply use the XBL marketplace.

I wonder if the PS3 release is what's keeping Mass Effect 2 off of Onlive. Lord knows I would much rather play it on my aging mac computer than on a console...

Because Uncharted 2 or Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood have completely underwhelming singleplayer campaigns because of the multiplayer.

yeah i like how zaed's mission had the same repeat "oh i shot gas pipe behind you, i didnt miss" gimmick the main story had. 
throw in some middle aged white dude, slap a scar on his face and call him an outer space bounty hunter.

Wasn't that already confirmed month's ago? IGN's female editors love talking about Mass Effect like it's some kind of gossip mag with any little update or piece of news about this game making front page headlines! It really gives you an idea of what could happen to gaming if it does hit the mainstream for real, kind of like the iPhone... ehhhhhhhh! Nothing against fellow female gamers, just a few members of the IGN staff in particular.

i own a ps3, though ive already played it on pc, so not interested. especially a year after release. if you arent going to release similarly close to the original release date i can't see the point. (dont get me wrong, this is my game of the year.)
