I was sad to see it unpinned but I think it's part of the acceptance process. We all miss Ryan a lot but having his memorial at the top of the forums makes it hard to move on.

That won't stop me from raising a toast in his honor today though.

You still rock, Ryan. You were an incredible host and personality on Giant Bomb. And now that I think about it, the BR Deadly Premonition Endurance Run is probably what brought me into Giant Bomb regularly, so thanks for that.

I don't know - I've followed GB from the beginning, but I know that some users are here already from post-Ryan times. I think it's important that it remains pinned as a part of the legacy and tradition of the site.

Love and miss ryan, but it's not our decision and we should respect theirs if they want to begin moving on.

Agreed, I know everybody who wants it pinned has their hearts in the right place, but keep in mind that if they unpinned it, then they have their reasons. And that really should be taken into account. Look at the page views and replies for this anyways, it's hardly likely to vanish into the complete back ground of the forums.
But if those closer to Ryan then us have decided it needs to be unpinned, then I think it's best to graciously let it be.
No one is gonna forget him because of this.

Was going through @turboman YouTube channel through the Giantbomb Mashups that he does and this one of Ryan is a pretty damn good tribute to the man.

Two years later and it still has not gotten any easier to deal with.

Seems really weird to have this unpinned as I think he should never be forgotten (I'm dreading the day we get our first "Who is Ryan Davis?" thread)

but if that's what the guys and Ryan's family want and need for their own healing I can support that.

@slag: I don't think a personality as amazing as Ryan's needs a forum thread pinned to remind people about him. This entire site is one giant reminder of Ryan Davis and his legacy. And as you can see, it's not like this thread is going anywhere anytime soon.

I was fully prepared to just leave this topic pinned forever, but that isn't my decision to make. I don't see unpinned the topic as a slight against Ryan in any way.

Eventually as the site rolls along you are going to have brand new members who won't know anything about Giant Bomb from 2013 and before, and consequently who Ryan was. There's already been a couple threads asking about what Whiskey Media was. That's just natural, time marches on.

I think a lot of users probably just liked having the thread pinned, since it's about the only obvious permanent tangible accessible memorial to somebody who was so well loved. That's all

but again in my mind, what I may want or what other users may want is a lot less important on something like this than the people who actually knew him want. Everybody handles these things in their own way. And if letting this thread go is what the Staff, his family and maybe even what Ryan would have wanted, well that's what really matters.

It's just tough to see, since it's another reminder that he's gone.

I've wondered the same thing as I sometimes see it pinned and other times not. It's good to know that it was done with a purpose in mind. I can totally understand not wanting that reminder pinned to your own site every day.

@jeff: I think we all appreciate the fact that the site still exists and continues to represent what it did before his passing. You said it wasn't even a decision to keep going back when all this unfolded but I am still grateful that you folks are all still around and doing what you do. As much as things have changed you guys keep nailing it the same. As a viewer, a better tribute could not be had for Ryan Davis.

Time and life march on and I can totally understand why the staff wouldn't want the first thing people see when they visit the forum to be a constant reminder of grief and sadness. Ryan inspired and entertained many of us in different ways, none moreso than the people who worked and lived with him. His contributions live on and I think he would be proud to see the site prospering as much as it has.

Can't believe it's been two years. I still remember hearing the news and it hitting me like a rock.

@jeff: Now I feel bad for asking Rorie to keep it pinned. Didn't really consider his friends and family's wishes at the time, which was not really cool. Of course it's not an easy decision, but it's one I (and I imagine a lot of us) will support. Ryan will never be forgotten and this thread doesn't do 1% of justice to show how amazing he was to all of us and to his friends and family. Keep being awesome Jeff. You're doing an amazing job hosting the site! I'd imagine Ryan would be incredibly proud.

I'm sure it had to have been absolutely gut wrenching and I don't envy you in the slightest. Thank you very much for letting us know and for everything else you do.

Pinned or unpinned, we won't forget Ryan, so I'm totally cool with the unpinning. (and even if I weren't, it doesn't and shouldn't matter what I think anyway. As much as I miss him, I exchanged all of two sentences with the guy.)

And hey, if that means we get "What's a Ryan Davis and Where Can I Buy One?" threads, well, all the more opportunity to introduce newcomers to his craft.

I agree completely. As hard as it is I think it's time to move on, and unpinning would be a part of that process. We're not going to forget about Ryan, we all know that's just about impossible since most of us visit this thread every year to pay our respects. I support the Giant Bomb crew's decision. We all should.

I think the community forgets sometimes that the staff were best friends and loved ones of the man himself, while we feel attached to him from a GB perspective this is probably just part of their process. I think people fail to show the staff as much respect for losing a loved one as they deserve, we lost a legend but they lost a friend.

This thread is here and open, and I think that is all that should be needed.

I was kind of shocked for a second when I noticed the thread wasn't pinned anymore but at least I know its here even if its not on the main page anymore. I completely support the gb guys in this.

I just re listened to the 07-9-2013 bombcast bit by bit over the last few days. Now I'm moving on to a good 20 bombcasts I missed(when I didn't have alot of time for podcasts) from late 2012-early 2013. Its weird but really nice hearing new(to me) bombcasts with Ryan even though they're mostly talking about the xbox one and ps4 launches and how much the wii u sucks but there are still plenty of good old tangential stuff in there.

I just want to acknowledge the stoicism exemplified by the talented staff at giant bomb. Truly heroic.

Since the membership sale was happening I went ahead and renewed (the first time I haven't let it just auto-renew) and it still plays the same excited audio clip with Ryan. It was both sad and heartwarming at the same time.

I still have a tough time going back to old GB content because I don't know if I'll be able to handle hearing Ryan's voice again.

The only content I've been able to handle is the Noby Noby Boy quicklook, I don't think I could ever be sad watching that video but I have a hard time making it through anything else.

Man, I know they did a couple of casts together, but I'd love to see Ryan with the current crew of Dan and Jason. Ryan was the bomb.
