Someone, Somewhere Says "Call of Duty 7"

Treyarch animator mentions COD7 on a social network profile page, and the crowd goes wild.

After a seven-kill streak you can create a black hole and automatically win the round.
After a seven-kill streak you can create a black hole and automatically win the round.
It sort of blows me away that people working on sensitive or unannounced projects still manage to let information slip in full public view. I mean, the Internet has been all Web 2.0'd up for awhile now, and there has been no shortage of people doing dumb things on the Internet that end up costing them their job or end up spoiling an unannounced product. But it still happens.

Today's case, the LinkedIn profile for David Kim, has already been cleaned up. But yesterday it said "I am currently on my second title as a senior animator in the games industry with Activision / Treyarch on Call Of Duty 7." Naturally, this touched off a flurry of stories from everyone with an interest in this sort of thing. Treyarch, meanwhile, is pretty much exclusively focused on a second map pack for its last release, Call of Duty: World at War.

Of course, the notion that there might be a seventh Call of Duty game isn't really much of a surprise, and it's also not a real shocker that Treyarch would be handling the development duties, either. Let's go out on a limb here and speculate... I think it'll come out in 2010 and will be based on the Modern Warfare 2 engine. And it will have guns in it. And it will probably be told from multiple perspectives. Multiplayer will be something of a focus. And it'll take place in space.

Oh, and Call of Duty 8 will actually be an accurate port of Strawberry Shortcake Musical Match-Ups. You heard it here first.

That's not too far from the truth.

Fucking dogs! Worst idea in a game ever.

This is not surprising. I guess it's a good time to announce that it's in development now instead of near or after the launch date of MW2.

If they keep that number, and keep aping IW, I may actually shed a single tear for them, no matter how well the game sells.
And WTFs up with Activision? It's like their purposely trying to make EA look like a creative and independent company. And to top it all off, if I'm not mistaken, Treyarch is assigned to making the next Spider-Man (6?). Jeeeeeeezum crow!
Make a new IP for fuck's sake! there's got to be ONE non-android in that company.
...
I can smell it in the air. 2010 is gonna suck dick for games.

They will split the franchise into Modern Warfare and Medieval Warfare, finally abandoning the World War II setting for something new.

@Bigandtasty: Revolutionary War would be so much better. When you die, you spawn at the end of the line.

Guys, Activision is a publisher, they don't even make games at all. Infinity Ward and Treyarch are the developers of Call of Duty games and Activision publishes BOTH OF THEM.

For all you Treyarch haters, why do you hate them? What's wrong with their editions of Call of Duty?

If Treyarch is so bad, that's why (before MW2) more people played WaW and not MW. COD3 was a good title with fun multiplayer. Maybe they should make a Revolutionary War (Timeout! I'm reloading my musket) game and piss people off, even though that would be interesting, or something about the Great War (Oh yeah Trench Wars woohoo!).

Epic bump, but i will give my opinion! It is a bit late now that basically all rumours point to Treyarch making a Vietnam game. Which I think is actually a good move, they had done very well in World At War creating very lush forest environments and also capturing the mayhem of the Japanese army. The same geurilla warfare that was in WaW could easilly be transferred to the Nam period, hoping that Treyarch learn from some mistakes from their previous games (NO FUCKING VEHICLES) then we should be in for a nice treat. It will sell like a whore anyway!

I believe the reason more people played WaW than CoD4 was the snowball effect, as populairity rose more people started playing.

A Call of Duty 7 by Treyarch will be just as good as World at War and Modern Warfare 2 - lame, in other words...

Yes, can they make a game based in space?  Or at least release a map on MW2 from the space level?
But anyway, yes, this game is coming.  Anyone who says, dont put up the page is a retard.  Activision only cares about money, so this will come out.  It would be more of a rumor if someone on the internets said that COD7 was not being developed.

I would love a Vietnam war. It's a war that hasn't really been touch by major gaming companies. So, to treyarch, TWO THUMBS UP!!!! I support this 100%.

Umm, they don't HAVE to number games for it to be Call of Duty 7. Some developers do that however. It's just being titled Call of Duty 7 because we don't know the name and it's the 7th Installment, d-bag.

When it comes to, say GTA you can't argue the number thing. GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas are all intertwined into one epic GTA game. Related stories, etc. Then there's GTA IV, and DLC like The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Too bad Modern Warfare 2 is the worst FPS I have ever played. Such a horrible game! And it's definitely not because I suck. 10,000 kills 5,000 deaths; 1.5 K/D because it's so easy, takes no skill to play at all.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is better than that trash

I'm looking forward to the potential Vietnam setting, I feel that games don't really touch apoun that war (granted that is a touchy subject for sum) I think it's time to do it if it's done right (none of that Shellshock 2 shit).
