Sony Announces PSP Favorites, Other PSP Deals

Excuse me while I download.

Need something to download on your PSPgo? No? Well, you might be surprised what you'll find your fingers doing in a few minutes. Sony has announced a new line of 10-dollar downloadable PSP games, dubbed "PSP Favorites," this afternoon (via Joystiq and PS.blog). A total of 16 titles were revealed for the price point, and it's a list that has some great-to-decent titles like PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe, LocoRoco 2, Patapon 2, and quasi-golden oldies like SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo, and Silent Hill: Origins

The full list, excluding the aforementioned, is: Ape Escape: On the Loose, Buzz! Master Quiz, Hot Shots Golf Open Tee, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, Twisted Metal: Head On, Justice League Heroes, Manhunt 2, Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play, Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection, Sims 2, and The Warriors

If newer and cheaper is more your taste, then the newly announced PSP Greatest Hits entrants might be more up your alley. Starting this afternoon, you'll be able to download Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance: Retribution, and Secret Agent Clank for 20 bucks a piece. If you're a total newbie to the PSPgo, as in you don't even have one, be aware that if you purchase the funny-looking handheld from today until March 31, you'll get a PSN voucher from Sony (via email) for a free download of three different titles: SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, LittleBigPlanet, and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters.

For once, you're not being left out, Europeans. Sony is also busting out an even better version of the latter deal for several regions
== TEASER ==
Starting June 9 and rolling until September 30, Sony is literally giving away a total of ten games to anyone who buys a new PSPgo or purchased one after April 1, 2010. If you qualify, all you need to do is hit the PSN store and download "the new PSPgo theme." From there, SCEE will e-mail you a voucher that'll let you download the following ten games: Assassins Creed: Bloodlines, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Gran Turismo, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm Arctic Edge, Need for Speed Shift, Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice, 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, and Wipeout Pure.

You can argue that the US deal is a pretty transparent attempt to get more people buying PSPgos, and then used to downloading and buying games, but this European deal? It seems downright desperate. That's a lot of new games up for grabs for anyone who bothers to buy Sony's smaller handheld. I wonder if this deal will stimulate sales as much as it seems like Sony wants it to.

" I still don't regret picking up my PSPgo, it's been great being able to take it everywhere without carrying around those UMDs, not to mention the 5 free games they have chucked at me before and now they want to give me more? sure, i'll take it.   Biggest issues is Sony not being strict enough and forcing a PSN release, not had to miss a game yet, but there's some that are UMD only and worries me something like Peace Walker could be one of those.  Edit: only applies to those who bought it after April 1st... I take back every nice thing I ever said about the PSPgo, Sony is the worst company ever and I'm going to buy a DS and pokemans. "
sarcasm? "
The edit yes, although it's a shame I won't be able to get 10 free games because I bought mine last year, it was still a worthy purchase as I use it daily for films/music/gaming.

That's a hell of a deal.  Too bad I already have a 2000 that hasn't been played in over a year.  I guess I'll dust it off for peace walker, but other than that, there just aren't enough games on that system.

Is there any way an American consumer could buy a PSP Go and get the European deal? Could I just register it with a European address, like

"MCIV Jolly Sauerkraut Boulevard
Athens, Finland, V IV IX III I"

Mr Praline: It's dead, that's what's wrong with it.

Shopkeeper: So it is. 'Ere's your money back and a couple of holiday vouchers.

I love my PSPgo. Too bad I can't take advantage of these deals.

Personally, this is the direction handhelds needs to go, all download. For something that is portable you need to just have everything right in the device. Not carrying around a bunch of carts or UMDs.

...I just preordered a MGS Peace Walker limited edition bundle.  I'll now have two PSPs, a 2000 and a 3000....I love me some metal gear. (choked that Canada only gets the limited edition green psp not the limited edition camo one that gamestop in the usa gets)

I have the 1000 and 3000 models as well. The PSP Go just didn't suit me at all. There are a few good games on that list though that people should check out if they already have a PSP. But this does smack of a pre E3 Sony garage sale swo they can make announcements on the PSP2.

Either I am the only one who caught this, or I am totally misreading this.

But 10 games from SCEE + 3 games from PSN Vouchers = 13 free games.  Right?

It better be coming as a digital copy. Square-Enix would make more profit because of the lack of packaging and that way they can sell it for all PSP models, not just UMD-based ones. "
I agree with you 100% but from what I hear they arn't putting it up for sale on PSN.
