Never in my life have I happily eaten this much crow. I never thought Sony would be able to launch against Microsoft without similar DRM, but to do it, with arguably a more powerful console and for ONE HUNDRED DOLL HAIRS LESS?! Holy shit...

I still think MS had the more impressive launch lineup but unless they do a complete 180 on their DRM and always on, it doesn't much matter. The best of the best this generation thus far is all multiplatform and Sony just made themselves the far and away best option for anybody who's mind wasn't already 100% made up. Bravo, Sony. BRAV-FUCKING-O!

It'll be fun to see in the next few weeks which Xbox execs are unceremoniously "let go" as a result of this.

Wowzers. I have to think way waaaaaay back to pick out a head-to-head console launch that was in any way comparable to this. In mid E3 haze this looks pretty goddamn dire for Microsoft. A more restrictive and less gaming focused console of similar or potentially lesser processing power launching at $100 more than an ostensibly awesome console backed by a company who is saying all the right things to make both gaming consumer and gaming media very joyous pandas. I don't see how anyone could possibly come away from today's pressers thinking the PS4 is not clearly the better value at this time with the information currently available. Microsoft has nothing. They have no edge. TV? o_0

I wish Sony had show a few more AAA exclusives, they still had more overall exclusives than MS but those 8 indie games count for like half a point ya know?

But yeah, that was really lopsided, I was just one some Xbone message boards and the dudes were still like "I am going to buy every one of those Microsoft exclusives, they all look fantastic" and it made me sad. Atm I would buy Crimson Dragon and maybe Ryse if it got good reviews....

That's certainly fair enough, I'm just talking about pure pricing here. Cost of Kinect removed from cost of console = Cost of PS4. Wasn't expecting it to get as big a reaction as it did, honestly just saw it coming from a mile off.

I thought the games presented by Microsoft were overall better (though I'm sure a good amount will be multiplatform), but good Lord Sony walked away with it.

I see it as $900 for both consoles. Ain't nothing to a boss.

The difference looks like 103 dollars to me.

It's difficult to explain all of the expenses occurring in the supply chain, but the short 'n sweet is that it costs rather a lot more to freight from Asia to Europe, than Asia to U.S. Also, they generally know that most consumers will suck it up and perhaps buy one less game. Lower attach rate is liveable.

I'll probably still get both consoles, but I'm going to buy a PS4 first. Was not expecting a $399. Of course, since I live in Australia, it'll probably end up costing us 800 dollars (and our dollar is almost the same as the US dollar), because every single multinational electronics corporation hates Australians for some reason.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting Sony to do this. They must be really desperate to beat Microsoft this console generation. Well, desperation can lead to creative practices. They've really shown that they want our money and that they are prepared to do what it takes to get it.

I really liked the focus on indie developers and consumers. I don't remember any smaller downloadable titles being mentioned at the MS conference, which is odd considering the role XBLA played in increasing the viability of that market. The majority of the games I play now are these kinds of downloadable titles, with only a few AAA 60 dollar investments being made throughout a given year. Oh, and they completely eschewed any kind of used game restrictions or online check ins when nearly everyone was waiting for them to quietly match Microsoft's fun new policies.

Oh, and they're offering a more powerful, hundred dollar cheaper console. Game over, man.
