Suda 51's Next Game is 'Killer is Dead'

Hopefully it's more Killer 7 and less No More Heroes.

Basically, the comment that "he's not worth talking about because he's an unspecial asshole" is somewhat paradoxical if it's not written to actually change people's minds about the subject. Hell, this is probably the most I've talked about Suda since No More Heroes. It feels like incendiary commentary, out there merely to trash the dude's reputation. I don't automatically say the most recent thing I heard about BioWare every time I hear something new about Mass Effect 3, I say the most important thing to me at the time. And if the most important thing to be said is "some guy said he's an asshole that some folks want dead," that bums me out.

@louiedog: I'd be willing to agree that if he is lazy then that's a good reason not to pay attention to him, and that explanation is possibly affirmed by some of the issues with his games. I'm not sure why that would be such an internalized thing that's only come up on Cheapassgamer after so many years of his work, though. You're correct that there's probably a lot more going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. I look forward to hearing the full story, though hopefully not from CheapyD.

Thinking about this more, this could be an attempt to approach NMH from a new angle. Maybe something more psychological or legitimately strange, maybe like Killer7. That seems unlikely based on his recent trajectory, but it's possible.

Sorry if this is super racist or culturally insensitive, but I think the bar for assholery for the average Japanese person is relatively low compared to American culture. Would it be safe to say that the average person in Japan would find the average American to be obnoxious/rude? Let me know if I'm way off base with this.

Lollipop Chainsaw is kinda like No More Heroes with a chainsaw

Killer Killer is kinda like No More Heroes with a sword instead of a sword

I want to see a big budget Suda game that's not a beat-em-up or shooter. His next next game better be a mech RPG in a game show format.

As for Suda, he's pretty much the most creative guy in the games industry so it doesn't shock or bother me that he's kind of an asshole.

Example: No More Heroes

It tried to show you the the dull, derivative aspects of an open world game by in fact having a dull, derivative open world. You don't make fun of something by just being it. That's not how parody works, especially not in video games. It stops being funny when I have to suffer through that shit in your game.

And Suda 51 "cool" is nerd cool, which is an oxymoron.

I thought he already made this game. It was called No More Heroes.

Why don't just call it No More Heroes 3? and be some sort of reboot of that series given that the first 2 (except for Heroes Paradise) never even appear on the PS3/360.

But still, I'm excited for whatever this game is...I just hope it's as crazy as Killer7 or the original No More Heroes. Suda's recent games haven't even come close to topping the ridiculousness of those two games. I'm interested to see how Lollipop Chainsaw turns out, too.

The fact that he's even undercutting fan response in an announcement tweet (saying in Japanese "It is not a Killer7 sequel") is leading me to believe it means "No, that will be later. Duon't even start on Killer7 yet. It will have its time."

@CaLe: I'm fine with that as long as someone keeps making the games he comes up with. Shadows of the Damned was amazing, Lollipop Chainsaw is looking to be good as long as that director of Dawn of the Dead doesn't smother it by accident, and I bet this game will be pretty good if not great. He is progressively getting better at story and gameplay so I have faith in him.

@Jayzilla: Well under that idea you probably hate quentin tarantino. Young sexy killer girls are all up in some of his movies. Besides Shadows of the Damned was great and a pretty decent message. Or at least I think it was. I didn't see it coming.

He's making them more accessible and mainstream..which is calming down the crazyness... Kinda sad, if you ask me :/
