Watch BioShock 2 In Action. Right Now!

GameTrailers has the first footage of 2K Marin's anticipated sequel under the sea.

Not much to comment on here. GameTrailers got the exclusive on the first gameplay footage from BioShock 2, so watch the video below, or hit the High Def link in the player to head over to their site and look at a bigger, prettier version.

Truthfully, I'm refraining from saying much here because we got a look at BioShock 2 ourselves recently and are under obligation not to discuss it just yet. So, hey, what do you think about this footage?

Considering its a "Game Trailers World Exclusive" they have no choice. They can't rip it and then put it up as their own.

As for the trailer, I am not sure yet. I still stand by my opinion that BioShock may be one of those games that was better left alone and never had a sequel made.

I think people forgot how big Rapture really was. Watch the Intro video again from the first game.  You only saw a few small parts of it in Bioshock.

Also the game was not directly based on any book, but does take some of its ideas from the book "Atlas Shrugged".

A good read if you have the time.

And what exactly does gametrailers do that everyone seems to hate?

Well, it looks like Bioshock. That's a plus, I suppose.

Bioshock is my favorite xbox game so I don't mind that this look similar to the original. The new combat mechanics of using plasmids in tandem with weapons and the big sister events will make it worth playing regardless of a multiplayer component. I'd like to be able to see some more footage in HD so we can see what kind of graphical tweaks we can expect, though I still think the original looks fantastic. Did i mention I love bioshock?

Yep..I knew a long time ago I wanted nothing to do with Bioshock 2, now I can just 100% confirm that.

Not that impressed, really. The game looks a lot like Bioshock 1, not only in the graphics, but the mecanics as well... That does not make much sense considering you are a big daddy now... A few things that pop into my mind:
- Interfase and layout are basically the same, even when the first time you were a human and now you are a monster inside a scuba suit (I don't know how much sense it makes if the big daddy have to inject plasmids)
- The drill and the gun are both on the same arm... Big daddies either had a drill or a gun, but not both, and the drill basically make that hand useless for anything else.
- You can now use plasmids... through your sealed suit.
- The radio message talking to the big daddy. As far as I know, Big Daddies are brutes that understand nothing and care for nothing but the little sisters.
- Movement looks like it is the same... You are now twice as big and heavy than in the first one, yet you seems to move at exactly the same pace.

I don't know. The game is still early in development, so I still have faith, but it doesn't seems like a sequel and it seems like the idea was hammed into the previous game...

I bought Bioshock because of the critical praise and enjoyed it the first time I played through.  But on a second play through I couldn't find myself liking it at all.  I may just rent this one.

I'm becoming more and more confused about the way this game is being received by the community. My roommate, an avid gamer, a reviewer, a Bioshock fan, and a long time System Shock 2 fan, has his doubts, like most of you. He says Bioshock 2 is going to be awful. Personally, I think it looks fine. This is how I see it though:

1. The game ends up identical to Bioshock 1, except you're a Big Daddy. Slight mechanic change, but not really. New story, probably not as good, but who knows? End result: Bioshock 1.5. Is that bad? Not sure. Would you rather have more Bioshock or are you content with the gameplay in Bioshock 1? My roommate is content. I probably am too. If I wanted more Bioshock I would play the first, instead of picking up this new game.

However...

2. It's totally different, the trailers are misleading ('cause they're just short gameplay videos with the same HUD, obviously the same game, right?) Maybe visually it's the same, as far as trailers go. I'm sure when reviewers dig deeper they will find there are a large number of new enemies, and new, cooler plasmids. They'll find the story is new and refreshing, etc, etc.

What did anyone expect from this game, anyway? 'Bioshock 2: The Different Game that isn't like Bioshock 1 at all' ?

Look at other titles. Halo 1-3, all similar. Halo 2 added online multiplayer, Halo 3 expanded on it and added a few thing here and there. Oh, it updated the graphics thanks to a jump in generations. I bet if you go back and look at trailers from Halo 2 to Halo 3 (and disregard graphics of course, as they aren't a debatable topic for Bioshock 1 to 2) you'll see that there doesn't seem to be a large change in gameplay. A few more guns and few more plasmids; enjoy your new game. You'll buy it if you're a fan, you wont if you're not.

But how is that different from any other game?

Wait for reviews before you make your own judgment. Either the game will be more than you expected, or it will be more of the same game. Either way, you can't lose with more Bioshock. If you're looking for a new and exciting experience that is different from Bioshock but still within the Bioshock universe, keep wishing. You might just get your wish. These trailers aren't going to tell you whether or not your birthday cake candles were lairs.

I may be easy to please, but Bioshock 2 could be Bioshock Redux and I'd still give my first born for it.  I hope they introduce more settings within Rapture; I love the feel of the city, and I can't wait to see more of it.  I would like to see a little more coherence between the settings, though.  I felt like each time I left a level I was shutting it off for good, and I would like to see it feel more like a complete city rather than separate, detached little pieces.  And a game with only a drill or only a rivet gun, while probably more realistic, would be far less fun, in my opinion.  Plus, realism isn't exactly a main point of the Bioshock series.  But ditto on the drill, it better do some real damage.

I'm not looking at any BioShock 2 stuff until I play the first game. I guess I don't have much of an excuse now that it's cheap.

I have a feeling this will rely more on being a brute than being sneaky and setting up traps like in the first game. I mean of course there will still be that element, but if you're a big daddy, I would imagine you would just roll through everything launched at you.

The part i personally didnt like about the first Bioshock was the part when you became the Big Daddy (spoiler?) and had to protect the little sisters you found.  Maybe because i found it too hard lol. So the second looks to probably have more of that so im a bit scured but cant wait for it to come out!

awesomely eerie games own.

I love the atmosphere in Rapture, the art design looks like it holds up. I'm interested in seeing how the game turns out, I will play it either way - although I can't say I'm happy about having to play underwater.

Two things that caught my attention.
1. The Big Sisiter is fast as hell.
2. The spilicers were proving to be not much of anything but a nuisance. There will have to be some more powerful enemies in the game....
