Yep, Nintendo’s Making a Bigger Circle Pad Pro

The upcoming 3DS XL will also get the still-ridiculous add-on.

LOOK AT THAT THING.
LOOK AT THAT THING.

It will always feel, look, and sound ridiculous to outfit the 3DS with the Circle Pad Pro, even for games like Resident Evil: Revelations, where it legitimately enhances the experience.

Since the 3DS XL will not include a second stick, Andriasang (via Famitsu) reports Nintendo will also issue another stick add-on.

There’s no word on when it will arrive, how much it will cost, and whether it’ll remain in Japan (doubtful), but if you’re worried about upgrading and having that second stick, it’s no longer an issue.

I still do not expect Nintendo to support the Circle Pad Pro outside of how it was handled within Kid Icarus: Uprising, which made the game far easier for left-handed players.

Wait why? I understand it's Nintendo and it will probably sell in Japan but it just seems so unnecessary. Looking at the picture some more, seems like it's going to be more awkward than helpful.

GG. I don't see why they don't just build in a second analog stick. Now the new 3DS is gonna be huge with that thing on it.

Nintendo, please -- if you're gonna go through the trouble of releasing this add-on, just add the damn thing to the system already.

NO! I hope they keep adding ridiculous things to it. Extra shoulder button + trackball expansion to add to the circle pad pro expansion.

Won't this effectively make the 3DS XL as large as the Wii U gamepad? I can't imagine carrying that around with me for portable gaming....

I'm excited. I skipped out on it with my regular ass 3DS, but wanted one for Kingdom Hearts, but I'll have a XL before then. Now we call all live happily ever after.

Kingdom Hearts 3D will probably make good use of it (Right Stick Camera is way better then camera on the triggers) but I would probably say if you are getting Kingdom Hearts you should probably get the Circle Pad Pro, but not the other way around.

What the fuck is wrong with this company? Looks they're sticking to their guns till the ship sinks. Hopefully it sinks sooner then later, also anyone who purchases this device really needs to reflect upon his actions.

You've got to fucking kidding me. A couple of days ago I was all like, 'thanks Nintendo for not putting a second analogue stick on the 3DS XL, now I don't have to buy it! Maybe you're not so dumb in thinking that it needs a second stick after all!'

Now I'm all like : what.

I'm still jealous of the Japanese selection of 3DS games, but at least I don't have to buy both a circle pad pro and an ac adaptor with this new 3ds.

I don't really think anyone is "hating" on it so much as being confused as to why Nintendo just didn't add a second stick to the revision. Now you have to go out and buy a secondary accessory that will make your 3DSXL even BIGGER. The fact that they're making a new CPP for the revision obviously indicates that they think a second stick is necessary.

Well I'll just connect this game cart to the game genie, which sits next to the worm light and then over the magnifying glass and speaker rig I have attached to my game boy as well.

Suddenly 1lb device is like 10lbs.

So like I asked on the 3DS XL + other Nintendo stuff reveal article... Why didn't they just put the second stick on the XL?

Why continue to spend money on creating this peripheral and probably lose money on it? Because I don't think many people will buy it unless they start making a lot of games that implement this. They could've bit the bullet and said they got it wrong the first time for the 3DS design and just put it on the XL. It doesn't make sense that they wouldn't just do this. All it does is add the ability to put a wider variety of games on a handheld. Maybe some of you don't want that, but on a handheld that just last year was considered a failure (by Nintendo themselves), being able to reach a wider market is better. The 3DS games that people like won't stop being made.

Also I'm not hating or anything on Nintendo, this just puzzles me a lot.

Exactly. If they are still pursuing this, then I'm willing to now bet that the next revision will have the second stick on it. Perhaps this design, in their mind was too far along to put the second stick on, as crazy as that is.

Eh, I don't know. Throwing a second stick right on the system seems like it would alienate too many first generation 3DS owners. I just don't think they'd split up their consumer base like that.

I would buy a Nintendo handheld that had the Circle Pad Pro functionality built in.
