Yep, Nintendo’s Making a Bigger Circle Pad Pro

This definitely won't be a first party thing it will be something that niche devs will use since noone outside of that will support it and the install base being so small to begin with for the peripheral.

@Dan_CiTi: The turn based battle system is nice, but I'm not a fan of the lack of stat progression and partner characters, or the fact you have to use stickers with limited use instead of just learning skills.

@WinterSnowblind: Actually it looks more like an RPG with battles and light platforming but you could be right, we won't know until the game is out.

Paper Mario isn't out and unfortunately looks like a follow up to Super Paper Mario (which wasn't a very good game) rather than the far superior RPG games. I'm quite happy with my 3DS at this point, but they need to keep the game releases flowing, it still doesn't exactly have a stellar line up.

As for the second analogue stick, why shouldn't people be annoyed about this? Having something that allows you to easily control the camera is a basic function at this point. Considering they're releasing a new 3DS, why didn't they already have it built in, instead of releasing a stupid attachment? It just means it'll never be supported outside of one or two games. It's a baffling design decision.

Nintendo certainly shot themselves in the foot when they chose not to add a second analog stick, there really isn't any reason not to. Still, I believe that in this type of situation you either go all in or not at all. Developers should find alternative and creative ways to enhance control in 3D games with the lack of a second analog stick, but the release of the CCP kind of ruins that in a way. I personally wouldn't mind if some games found a way to implement the 3DS gyroscope for camera control. Journey on the PS3 had an alternative method of moving the camera with the Sixaxis gyro and it worked reasonably well.

I want paddles so I can play Pong on it.

Can I attach my n64 expansion pack to that thing?

I was so ready to go out and give Nintendo my $ when they released a new 3DS with a second stick on it...but then they didn't...so then I didn't give them my $...and it doesn't look like their gonna get my $ anytime soon, cause NO second analog stick = NO $ from Rodent.

Long story short...I don't get this myth that we want handheld games.

Take Mario Kart for example...its not like you can't get that series on the Wii...it plays the exact same.I've been playing handhelds since the Game Boy...and to me, the whole idea of handheld gaming to give me that console experience on the go

I'm going off into a tangent...but I've always been one of those people who never got the myth surrounding handheld gaming vs. console gaming and how the two differ

Example

The Gameboy was an underpowered NES...there was something cool about having a copy of Mario that you could take with you no matter where you went.

The Gameboy Color was technically a NES of sorts...hell it launched with Direct Ports of NES games (Super Mario Bros and Zelda come to mind

The Gameboy Advanced was for all purposes a SNES...hell I played Donkey Kong Country on the go and loved it...but make no mistake, it was a console game on a handheld

The PSP was a Portable PS2...and I enjoyed it for that

The DS was an underpowered N64 of sorts...It launched with a port of Mario 64 on it...sure it had casual handheld games, but it wasn't voided of Ports (of sorts)...I mean Mario Kart is a great game, but its not like I couldn't get it on a console...wasn't that the charm? That you could take Mario Kart with you

This is just a personal gripe of mine...but I don't get this myth of we want handheld games...because it seems to me that the charm of a handheld was that it offers a console experience on the go.

I'm happy with a console experience on the go...I thought the GTA games on the PSP worked great...I thought the God of War games on PSP were great...I thought Uncharted for the Vita was pretty cool...I thought Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS was cool...that's a console game through and through but I still really enjoyed playing it on my handheld.

I understand people want bite sized gaming on a handheld...but that's where I thought things like RE: Revelations and MGS: Peace Walker really got it right with the way they split the game into small bite sized chapters...I think you can do a console experience and it can be just as fun

I think that whole idea of we want handheld games only is a complete myth...otherwise how do you explain 20 million units of Mario Kart DS sold??? It's Not like that's a handheld exclusive franchise now.

I'll take it one step further and say: Why didn't they just design the ORIGINAL 3DS with two sticks? 

I considered buying a 3DS XL because the regular 3DS is a bit small for my hands, but I decided not to purchase any handheld gaming device after only a few moments of thought. I realized that when I'm at a point in my day where I'm able to play video games, I can always use a home console on my awesome TV, while any mobile gaming needs are met by my phone. @delorean99947: you are so right, whats the point of making the damn thing bigger and not including the second stick. if they didn't release the circle pad pro to begin with on one would be complaining. all they had to do was move the xyab buttons down a bit and put the other analog stick inline with the other.

The only admiration i have for Nintendo is their business sense. They milk the fuck out of their products, while no one complains, and put out shit that no one wants, but yet will sell millions. Brilliant.

@danmann861: The problem lies in games that emulate console experiences, but without the 2nd analog stick. I believe Jeff wants games that don't feel hampered by the lack of another analog stick.

I really don't know if Nintendo knows what they are doing with their hardware at this point. They have done some questionable things in the past and have usually managed to justify themselves down the line ( whad'ya mean 2 sceens!? Who'd want that?) but I'm thinking that that the 3ds should have had time to properly 'ripen' for decent titles by now.

I kinda regret buying one at this point as the only game I've found worth playing on it still is Mario 3d Land.

I'm with Jeff on this one. A handheld doesn't need two analog sticks. Just because Vita has one doesn't mean it's needed for handheld games. Who wants to play an FPS or any other deep console style experience on such a small screen?

But for years, how many gaming websites banged on and on about how the PSP desperately needed a 2nd analog nub??? That's all I used to read at the height of the PSP vs. DS days

Cut forward to today, and now all of a sudden, everyone is okay with one Analog Stick??? Wasn't that what everyone was complaining about for years???

It's not just effective for shooters...I played the Kingdom Hearts 3D demo recently...the first thing I thought was "the camera controls are shit, I want my 2nd analog"...note my disapointment that the demo doesn't support the CCP. I think having a 2nd Analog is vital for any game that uses a 3D camera. This is a big part of the reason I have trouble playing my old Dreamcast games anymore (most notably Jet Set Radio)

For myself, I want the 2nd Analog Nub...not because its going to open up to shooters...but because it just makes any game using a 3D camera all the more better.

I don't really understand what happen? Gamers moaned about the lack of 2nd analog nub on PSP...but now they're more then willing to accept the fact that it isn't there? Hell some gamers are more then willing to accept having no physical controls (the iPad and such)

Personally I'm glad the Vita has it out of the box...I know I may sound a bit fanboyish but after playing my Vita...it was really hard to go back to my 3DS without it (although the CCP did rectify this problem)

I found it impossible to enjoy RE Revelations without it...MGS Snake Eater, well I had 150 hours of Peace Walker under my belt so the control scheme wasn't impossible, but geez the CCP really did make a huge noticeable difference...Kingdom Hearts Demo suffered from lack of 2nd Analog Circle (I'm still looking forward to it, but am so looking forward to playing it with the CCP)...for myself, I want it. I think its vital
