Yes, Virginia, Modern Warfare 3 Will Have Dedicated PC Servers

Geez, I get that Alex being snarky and cynical is his thing, but at this point it's weird seeing a videogame website where people make their livings talking about video games telling their audience that they're dumb crazy nerds for wanting games to be good.

So it might be easier to cheat?

How rock-solid were MW2's anti-cheat measures again?

..the publisher evidently still has some concerns about opening up the servers in such fashion. Specifically, the inclusion of dedicated servers does mean that it would, in theory at least, be easier to cheat in online multiplayer matches.  

@Crushed: I don't think I actually recall calling anyone dumb, crazy nerds for wanting games to be better. If anything, I'm pro-dedicated servers. In fact, reading over the story, I can't actually find a single thing that's negatively pointed toward players who wanted MW to have dedicated servers.

Am I just taking crazy pills? Or are people thoroughly misreading me?

What has BF3 to do with anything? I'm excited about this!

Activision finally gives the fervent, vitriolic fans what they've been demanding since Modern Warfare 2.

You're going to have to find something else in Modern Warfare 3 to make the subject of your Hitler freakout video.

I pre-ordered MW2, hoping the lack of dedicated servers wouldn't be much of a problem, and was severely disappointed with the multiplayer component of the game. If not for this news (which is good news), I would have completely ignored this game - once bitten, twice shy and all that. There's no need to paint this announcement in a negative light as Alex has done here. To me, it reeks of bitterness. Try expanding your audience, instead of pandering to the one you have.

Well, I'm terribly sorry for noticing these common patterns with PC gamers. As for being a generalising cunt, yes it's a stereotype that obviously, not everyone will conform to, much like PC fans are quick to point out that 'every' console player is a twelve year old retard who likes to be promiscuous with the world's mothers. As for expanding my audience, I do legitimately play across all platforms, however my main choice of platform rests solely on comfort - I don't like Mouse & Keys, so I play consoles more. Could I grab a wired controller? Sure I could; but wait - none of my friends tend to play on PC, and I'd have to buy another headset, and upgrade my hardware again before long to get the best experience. Sometimes, playing on a technologically worse platform is much better value for money. So, what have I got to be bitter about exactly, except many, many people's apparent contentment with their lack of scruple and morals getting on their high horses telling me I'm an idiot for baseless reasons?

@Tennmuerti: If you're going to pretend that the dialogue directed at Activision over that stuff wasn't vitriolic, you're insane. It doesn't make the sentiment wrong, but I've read the same forum comments as everyone else, and that shit got VILE at times.

Also, for serious? It's a Hitler meme joke. I don't think that translates to a bitter, cynical takedown of people wanting games to be good.

It's good that they are doing this for those who want to play it.  It makes me more likely to buy it at some point on sale if the campaign has the ending to Captain Price/Soap's story.

Wish they'd do dedis for consoles aswell. I hate p2p gaming. Just a handful games do dedicated servers on consoles too, like Battlefield and MAG.
 
Dedicated servers offer a so much better experience.

All I did was try to help and point out why other people might have formed such an impression of the tone of the article. You said you couldn't find a single negative thing pointed towards the players, so I quoted 2 that people could have taken as such.

PC games blah blah console games blah blah we all know that the DS version dominates.

I think I'm just a little exhausted with the notion that poking fun at game news somehow translates to me being an embittered, joyless human being, which is sometimes the feeling I get from comments around here.

I primarily play shooters on PC and I do not like Battlefield.

CoD:Blops had Dedicated servers are well... what I want to know is if I'll be able to actually play on the same team as my friends this time.

The main reason why my friends and I quit playing CoD: Blops was the lack of ability to play together as a team. Sure it's fun to play against your buddies sometimes, but it's also fun to play WITH your buddies.

Pretty sure Activision has said otherwise previously with regards to MW3, so I'll wait and see if there's a retraction (I wouldn't be surprised).

I don't even understand why you're telling him why you prefer playing on consoles rather than a PC. That wasn't even the argument. The argument was that you were being an ass. Nobody cares that you can't afford a great chair, or that a keyboard and mouse is far too uncomfortable for your arthritic hands. Not exactly...no. I'm willing to spend some time playing the game but no money until I am confident exactly what I'm getting. I liked MW a lot, but all the titles since then have been a little different and seem to miss the mark in my opinion. I've purchased MW, MW2, and Blops at launch...just not willing to give them anything this time around. I'm sure someone will buy the game new and hate it, then trade it to me so I can try it. Already pre-ordered on consoles but good news either way. Now that all those boy cotters are on board I bet this series will continue to break sales records.

This will be the first COD i don't buy, If Gears 3 wasn't coming out this year i would definitely buy this i'm probably just going to get Gears 3, Batman, and Assassins Creed year.
