I'd never heard of AC: Brotherhood. What exactly is it? A continuation of the series (AC3) or more like AC2.5? And most of all, why did the developers suddenly feel like creating this instead of AC3? (not that I'm complaining, an extra AC game is only good news. ) Really, when did all this happen?

It's more like AC 2.5. It continues Ezio's story as he recruits a group of assassins and trains them in Rome, nobody knows if it is a continuation of Desmond's story at all. Seems a key feature they are adding is class based multiplayer.

Ubisoft's attempt to milk the AC franchise this year; hopefully it will actually improve upon the AC2 formula and make something interesting.

It's Assassin's Creed II: 2.

I know it seems pretty cheap since it's supposedly made up also of parts that didn't make it into AC2, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to buy it to check out the MP. But yeah, it's pretty much what everyone has said it is.

It looks to be more of an Assassin's Creed 2.5. The .5 being it has multiplayer. 

Unless it's the cannon third game I could care less about this multiplayer centric cash in. That being said, I would love to spend more time with Enzio as he was tons more fun than Altair.
