A classic video arcade game released in 1979 by Atari, the number of influences this game had on the future of games development is probably impossible to determine. Think of a really big number, and go with that. Far reaching, indeed.

In July 2009, it was announced that Universal Studios had "won" a bidding war for the license to create films based on the Asteroids franchise. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura divulged a few minor details in an interview with IGN.  According to him, he was attracted to Asteroids because it's "this big thing in space." Furthermore, the lead characters will be two brothers who will try to repair their strained relationship against a "huge backdrop".
