Batman: Arkham Asylum puts you behind the cowl of the iconic Dark Knight, fighting his way through Arkham Asylum to stop the Joker from enacting a sinister plot that would have grave consequences for Gotham City.
Hey, should I get Batman?
" @Keenblaze said:It's a lot of button smashing, but it adds in just enough unique button presses to make the combat extremely fun and rewarding. And you feel like a bad ass in a huge 15 player battle." The gameplay is as engaging as you make it. It was just button-mashing for me before I unlocked the combo multiplier thing that doubled my multiplier each time I attacked at the right moment. Suddenly, the game just clicked and became a sublime experience. It just felt so good chaining well-timed attacks together. Stealth was also cool, although it didn't click as much with me. I enjoyed preying on the guys, but found it best just to keep doing inverted takedowns. The challenge rooms are an anomaly because they actually provide more enjoyment for when you play the story mode. Once the rooms "force" you to do innovative stuff, you find that it's fun and begin doing it when playing the story. Unfortunately, most people probably won't play the challenge rooms until after beating the game. The story itself hardly ever forces you to do all the cool stuff you can do. In conclusion, buy this game. "The combat in the demo does seem like it sets up a base for what becomes a very sublime, timing-focused and rhythmic thing. It's good to hear that one can choose to take the combat beyond mere mashing and inject some skill and even something akin to a musicality--a veritable percussive dance--into it, garnering a pleasure something like that of a fighting game when you pull of a badass combo (uh, or something like that). You say it's what I make it? I want to make it a beautiful ballet of beating and bruising. I'm especially looking forward to challenge rooms. "
" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrXm7jl0Yy0 Tell me that isn't the most beautiful ballet you have ever seen. Just watching that makes me want to immediately reinstall this game. "I feel like I should be hearing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata set to that perfectly choreographed dance-wait-I-mean-fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to the GameStops.
Best brawler mechanics I've ever seen. The stealth is a lot of fun, too. Can't think of a reason not to get this game.
It's similar to splinter cell conviction, it's action stealth. I say get it if you like those kinds of games.
I bought it, then it sat unplayed for 6 months on my shelf as I fell into a Fat Princess hole. I beat it a couple months ago, awesome.
Yeah.
It beats syphilis in every way possible.
Seriously, it's one of my favourite games, and I've been playing for 15 years. Surely, I have forgotten some titles, but still - Batman: AA is really great.
If you mean Arkham Asylum, then yes. I picked it up recently myself. There is always time for good games. If you mean some other Batman game, then maybe not. There aren't too many other good ones around. If you mean Batman himself, then only if you have some sort of violent psychosis and enjoy dressing up in unusual costumes. Prepare for a beat down, though because, dude, he's Batman.
Yes buy it. That's the only single player-only game that I bought. Also I bought it used on gamefly for like 15 bucks with a coupon there. Never regretted it for a second.
Does really no one besides me think that the traversion in this game was tedious? Especially since it was chained by follow the red dot type gameplay?
Yeah, I'm being smart and doing this. I don't wanna let GameStop defile me on the trade-ins. Plus, I wanna keep those three games." Yeah, but you might as well go the Gamefly way. "
I'll have Batman: Arkham Asylum in my clutches next week my babies. Pacify your cries. Diaper your butts. Cradle your giant heads.
nah, you should wait till my game Green Lantern Batman: Arkham Asylum comes out. It is 100% more green.
Glad you made a decision, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. As a huge Batman fan since childhood I absolutely loved this game. The combat alone got me hooked, much less all the other cool stuff.
I spent 24 hours playing it. If you're at all interested in the legacy of Batman (especially if you watched Batman: The Animated Series featuring the same voice actors) then this is an amazing game. Such variety and quality in the most minute of places.
This is a game where nitpicks are the only fault.
Oh, hey, I should probably update. I most certainly did get it (GOTY edition in 3D, which is awesome) and I love this game.
I LOOOOOOOOOVE it. Thanks all.
" I feel like I want someone to come in here and tell me how bad it is and how it's not worth my, like, $35 or so. "K, now here's what you should do...
Step 1: Kill that guy
@Ryax said:
" dude. fuck this game. i beat it in like 5 hours. its boring as fuck and easy as shit. "
Step 2: Kill this guy
Step 3: Have an interest in psychology I recommend watching this guy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX5xMjfBDes
Step 4: Buy and "play" through the game and when you get the battarang hit batman in the face with it.
Step 5: When you're in court say nothing apart from chanting "I am Batman!"
... and life is now complete :)
As much as I've never even had much of an interest in Batman stuff, I was astonished by the quality of the game. This isn't a super-hero game with lame ass gimmicks. It's a terrific mix of fluid and entertaining combat, stealth, and puzzle solving. The way everything is presented is also slick with terrific VO and atmospheric visuals (best use of UE3 by far).
So, yes, sir. Have some Batman. And some more afterwards.
