TSorry if this is old footage or something, I haven't been following BF3 too closely.his is pretty impressive footage. I haven't been getting as hyped as other people about this game up until now, but this footage makes me want to see more. I'm hoping we get to see some console gameplay soon, as I don't have a powerful gaming rig at the moment. But it seems I can safely add this to my "reasons to buy a gaming PC" list. I think Ryan was completely right when he said that games like BF3 are really showing the age of the current generation consoles, and that the time for a new generation might be sooner than we think.

I'm curious as to how early on this is in the game, it seems like it could be the first or close to the first mission, but this video might suggest some nice scripting moments, which I'm all for as long as they're done well.

As a guy who has been on the Cod side of the "CoD vs BF" debate for some time now, this game is quickly changing my mind, I like the more realistic approach and juxtaposition from the crazy action. Also i really liked the squad chat right before the RPG at the end, it's things like that the make it feel more realistic and will help me get into the game.

pre order for me.

@Jason_Bourne: Scripting moments were already described in the GI article, such as an earthquake which rips through shit and makes the Frostbite engine look real pretty.

edit- in fact, I believe this is the first part of the demo they showed to the GI people.
also, props to them for using the real-world location of Iraq/Iran instead of copping out and creating a fake middle eastern country.

woah i just created the exact same thread ! - requested a lock

Anyway, the game looks and sounds and probably feels and controls SWEET, i just dislike the MOH resemblance..

@Jason_Bourne: Personally don't understand why there's a cod vs BF debate. Seems weird that people feel like they have to play one game exclusively over the other. I'm personally more interested in BF3 than new CoD, but that's just a personal preference...I don't think that people should argue about which one is "better" when they seem to be going for 2 different things.
#6 Posted by RedRoach (1216 posts) -
@DystopiaX: I agree, I've played all the BF and CoD games, and I enjoy both. I never actually argue about it, I've just preferred CoD over the past couple of years.

Wow that is looking sexy. Hopefully the console version will be up to snuff as well.

#8 Posted by supermike6 (3645 posts) -

It looks like a modern military shooter where you shoot things. And by shoot things I apparently mean watch people go through doors.

#9 Posted by Ventilaator (1501 posts) -

Looks like a FPS game, but the audio design really stood out to me for some reason.

#10 Posted by PerryVandell (2109 posts) -

Wow, that game is looking pretty good. The lighting in that game looks incredible.

Going through doors has never looked this good before.  GOTY contender for best animation of man going through door?

Had to come over here to post my inane comment.

Looks good. I ust want multiplayer though.

yes, man. yes !!

Holy fuck they weren't kidding about the animation. That shit looks so real.

#16 Posted by Ley_Lines (262 posts) -

I liked it, all except for the aiming down the sights, for some reason that looked bad to me.

That is most likely because DICE easily has some of the best sound design on the market. I dare you to find better sounding guns/ambiance then in bad company and now battlefield 3.

Looks great, can't wait to get this.

Apparently going to be in MP as well, so you'll still move normally but the game will make that shit look better than current MP does, with the weird sliding animations and jank that goes on.

I know, I wasn't referring specifically to you, it's just a trend that I've seen lately, with people saying that this is a "CoD killer!" maybe saleswise, but I don't see why you couldn't play both.

i know EXACTLY what you mean. for the first 20 seconds of shooting, i felt the same way
then, i somehow managed to see why the aiming-down-sights shooting was perfectly suitable and will feel real and amazing..
i hope you can get the same revelation!

If i had to describe it, i'd say that it's a mix of making the gun look real (which made it feel a bit big and strange considering we've been using half-cartoonish guns in other shooters), with their desire to make the gun sound exactly the way it looks (matching gun sound with gun movement), and simply adding something new and real to it, which is the shaking back and forth, which i like

I assure you, when you play the game, you'll feel like you're really shooting those enemies when you aim down the sights. i can already tell its gonna feel and sound exceptionally real and engaging

All Hail Battlefield

since you fancy the BF sound design so much, you should watch/read this (:

If that was a real award I think Deadly Premonition would have won last year. Not only does he like to open the door slightly, and then peek in before going, but in a few cut-scenes he makes blind leaps through doors for no apparent reason! That's what I call going through a door with style.

I'd play a game where you just had to stack up and open doors again and again.

Oh look, it's another game where you shoot dudes in the face, in modern times!

And now we have another reason for why people love Deadly Premonition.  It was ahead of its time in adding both tension and flair to what is otherwise an average act of progression.  SWERY is an innovator after all.

Nice fucking kick on those guns! Can't wait to fire those bad boys like a pro. Looks epic and once again, best soundscape in the industry.

Battlefield afficionados know... they still showed us barely anything yet. No destruction, no vehicles, no nighttime or real dark scenarios (lighting might be best in industry too I suspect). Once all of these elements, graphical crispness and smothness of animation and the crazy awesome soundscape displayed in this trailer, will work in tandem with 64 player multiplayer with full destruction and vehicles in a nighttime metropolitan map, that's when DICE has truely revealed BF3 and dropped their pants.

While I am very impressed, I need to see every outstanding aspect of BF3 working in tandem and check how it stacks up to my imagination. Either way, March 16 cannot come soon enough.

This game looks so fucking amazing...

The sounds design is gorgeous.  Everything from the ambient street noise to the vocal clarity, down to the sound of the dirt crunching under the guys boot as he turns the corner.  I'm a total sucker for good game audio, it's something that's often over looked.

#31 Posted by AssInAss (2747 posts) -

Not excited for the design of the campaign, if it's that heavily scripted. It's 2014, where's the near futuristicness (GRAW set in 2013)?!  No squad commands?! :(

Heavily scripted = zero replayability. You can still have a dynamic game out of a scripted shooter, look at HALO with its AI making each encounter unpredictable.

Oh well, a great technical showcase either way.

#32 Posted by MaFoLu (1859 posts) -
@AssInAss:
The campaign is where big, scripted set-pieces happen.
The multiplayer is where every encounter is unpredictable.

At least that's how I see this game being, and if you ask me, there's nothing wrong with that.

I am buying this for the audio. BC2 blew me away with the bouncing reverb signals.... delicious!

I wouldn't count on it, but I'm pretty sure it will look good, too.

#36 Posted by Sooty (8082 posts) -

Looks amazing, glad I'll be getting this on PC, after seeing that there's no way the console version can live up.

...though mainly getting on PC due to mouse & keyboard as well as the fact PC will support 64 players, consoles not even half that.

#37 Posted by natetodamax (19220 posts) -

Animations look great. Other than that, it looks like another modern first person shooter.

I really like the umph in the gun when he fires. Great sound design.
Can't wait to see more.

Could have sworn I heard Russian shouting in the middle of that battle.

Don't really care about the single player too be honest. But good damn I hope the gameplay is faster paced in MP...

Or I could continue with BF2.

Am I the only one that's a little bothered by this?

I mean come on look at that, it's Modern Warfare people

-90% scripted events. CHECK
-Overly dramatized BS. CHECK
-Completely Linear. CHECK
-People opening doors for you. CHECK

It's modern warfare period, god couldn't they get at least a little creative with this? they already have bad company to be a COD wanna be why do this to real BF?

Wouldn't it be 100 billion times better if they had made it open ended operation Flashpoint style? with huge cities where you have you central base and receive missions that happen seamlessly, your base gets attacked from time to time, you can set new bases on conquered enemy bases, I mean the possibilities are limitless and what do they do? EFFIN COD.......

#47 Posted by fillmoejoe (1469 posts) -

That looks really freakin' good. I want to see footage of destruction with the new Frostbite Engine in the next reveal.

#48 Posted by DystopiaX (5364 posts) -
@onarum Scropted shit looks better for trailers. Look at pretty much any game trailer ever- it's either cgi or it's scripted events. You can't really draw any conclusions from a trailer that obviously cut 15 second scripted events to draw an exciting story for a trailer.

That looks incredible! Just bought Medal of Honor, so I could get into the beta, because of this video, and I'm really considering buying Bad Company 2 to see what I missed on.
