Battlefield 3 is coming out. In a few months or so, I think.
When I first heard about it I was like "okay, this game looks cool". I mean, don't get me wrong, it does look cool.
But I honestly don't anticipate it in the slightest.
I will probably buy it when it comes out (I haven't played an FPS since Killzone 2 I think, excluding a little bit of TF2), provided it gets good enough reviews (which - let's face it - it will), and provided I still have money left after purchasing games I can't wait to play and am actually excited about (Arkham City, Uncharted 3, etc.).
I've been reminded numerous times that asking "Am I the only one...?" probably means you're not, so I'll ask this instead: who else is not really hyped for Battlefield 3/not excited at all/couldn't care less about it?
Battlefield 3
Game » consists of 15 releases. Released Oct 25, 2011
Battlefield 3 is DICE's third numerical installment in the Battlefield franchise. It features a single player and co-operative campaign, as well as an extensive multiplayer component.
Who else is totally not hyped for this game?
I'm not really hyped. I'm just certain that I'll be into it. There's lots of upcoming games I'm certain to be into. Batman Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Elder Scrolls : Skyrim. Battlefield 3 is the one I'm most certain about. I will love it.
Hyped - as in buying into 'the Hype'? I'm hyped for Guild Wars 2. Now there I'm certain of nothing, but damn am I hyped!
I hate military shooters at this point.. will not waste more money on any military shooters for at least 3-4 years.
The only reason i'm hyped for BF3 is because it provides a unique and addictive multiplayer component that i've been enjoying in past Battlefield games for years (see: Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142)
I have been waiting for a real Battlefield with real conquest and teamplay-based action for years.. Bad Company 2's shittiness in both those departments only aggravated my need for that fix. If BF3 turns out to have BC2 gameplay coated with new graphics and lighting system, well..... I don't know.
Anyway, if you read the game's wiki you're gonna see that DICE have put more work into BF3's single player component than any other game in the genre. I expect it to be extremely different and to blow us away and be memorable for years. It's a shame though that it's based on flashbacks (CoD Black Ops much?) and focuses on Russians (CoD 4, 6, blops, bad company 1, 2 much?).
Even the book is called "The Russian". It's a shame that in order to cater to casual joe who buys fps's for his xbox, they can't let go of the cheap-shot multiplayer of BC2 and the typical RUSSIANS-based single player of Call of Duty.
It looks gorgeous and I messed about a bit with the alpha and it just seemd like another very pretty looking FPS. I'm sure theres a ton of things that make it special, but it reminded me why I prefer the more run and gun COD style of games.
@supermike6: I'm actually the same way, as of late I just don't get "hype" anymore. I anticipate some games will be good, but I don't excitingly wait for their arrival.
As for Battlefield 3, only reason I am looking forward to it is because I want larger maps than Call of Duty and I like to snipe. Somewhere between Battlefield 2142 and CoD Black Ops I forgot how much I enjoyed Battlefield until recently I sat at a friend's house trying out Bad Company 2 online and realized I've got CoD fatigue, not Modern FPS fatigue.
It looks alright...I think my lack of excitement stems from playing MOH last year.
My biggest problem was that in striving for realism, the game just didn't translate into something exciting to play - ended up being an FPS in the MW-vein, but without the crazy spectacle moments.
Everything I've seen of BF3's campaign gives me a strong sense of Deju-Vu - I'm hoping EA/DICE learned their lesson from MOH. But who knows? It'll be the multi-player that decides this purchase for me.
From my time with BC2, I feel like BF3 will let me down. 3D spotting is not good for preventing camping, and the only epic fights are at the beginning of a conquest match, where whichever Helicopter wins gets to start spawn-killing. BF3 will just add Jets to the Helicopters equation. This doesn't happen a majority of the time, but when it does, it really kills the game for me. I hope BF3 will be good, fun, and balanced, but I'm not really hyped for it.
BF3 just looks like BFBC2 with slightly better graphics and larger amount of enemies. If it was PC exclusive, this game would be much, much better.
I was really pumped for this....then a couple days ago I played Bad company 2 and was COMPLETELY BORED. Now my hype for BF3 is 0%
I've been finding it rather difficult to care much about shooter-only games for some time now. I mean, it's been a while since I burned out, but it's REALLY burnt out.
Not a shooter fan, not too interested.
If I have the chance to play through the single player because my friend let me borrow it or because it's really cheap used a couple years from now, I might play it.
I don't play FPSs, so I feel like it's meaningful to say I'm not looking forward to a pretty significant one.
Translation of OP.
Honestly I don't care about it. It's an EA game so it'll drop in price mad quickly, I'll just buy it then.
Admittedly though, I'm starting to get annoyed by the assholes who spam "COD SUX BF3 FTW" and stuff to that effect.
I'm not hyped.
I'm not a multiplayer person, so most of the hype is lost on me. If I were going to play it, I would only be playing single-player - but that's pretty unlikely, since I played the single player campaign of Bad Company 2 and thought it was garbage.
Me. Couldn't care less about another FPS, I don't care what it is.
Deus Ex 3 is the closest I'll come to playing another one of those this year.. and that'll be it until Borderlands 2.
I'm already done at the point where Battlfield III is a first person shooter, without even getting to the parts where it seems that it might not be what it should.
I think Bioshock is literally the only FPS game I still own at this point on a console. I'll also get Human Revolution.
I specified console because I'm sure I have a Call of Duty 2 disc somewhere
I loved BF2, but no, I am not hyped at all for BF3. Part of the reason is that there is just a plague of modern military elite ops special unit games out, and they are all the same for the most part (ArmA 2 distinguishes itself by being a sim). Another reason is that, one thing I liked about BF2 was the variety of maps: you had the close quarters battles of Karkand, the air and tank ruled Wake Island, the helicopter and stealth centric Daqing. It wasn't just the playstyle of the maps though; they each had a very distinct look. But from what I'm seeing in BF3, it's all middle eastern bombed out cities and deserts.
RE-ENACTMENT OF THE TOPIC CREATOR:
"Man, I so don't care about Battlefield 3. I just don't care about it at all. Not hyped. No hype, no way. I should post a thread about how not hyped I am for Battlefield 3. It's so commercial now, how could I be hyped. I bet others aren't hyped. Yeah, I'll post to see who else isn't hyped."
SEVERAL MONTHS LATER:
"Hi, is this Gamestop? Hey, your doing a midnight launch for Battlefield 3, right?"
I don't want it to seem like I despise people who care for BF3, because I don't. I didn't create this thread to say "this game looks terrible, I don't see all the hype, who else is not a part of the system?": I wanted it to be more like "this game looks good, even great, but I just don't seem to anticipate it that much".
Of course you don't have to believe anything I just wrote.
Also we don't have Gamestops in Poland. Wish we did.
I'm not really hyped for it, I've never really been into the whole military shooter thing (that's not to say military shooters are bad or anything), so Battlefield doesn't have much appeal. I'll likely play through the single player campaign on a friend's copy, I doubt I'll buy it. It looks like it'll be a damn fine game, though.
BF3 just looks like BFBC2 with slightly better graphics and larger amount of enemies. If it was PC exclusive, this game would be much, much better. This I think it will be better then bfbc2 but still can't touch BF2 its sad we still can't get a true better quality sequel and its been 5 years.
I was super hyped, but then all the publishers had to go and release their games at the same time, and naturally the non-FPS games are higher up on the priority list now.
I'm building a $2,000 PC for it.
But no, I don't care, now that a new Counterstrike has been announced, everything else is kind of moot.
