The "expansion" pack for Bad Company 2 has received a trailer.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZb-49QTy-4&feature;=player_embedded

The end of the trailer states that the expansion will be $15, or 1200 MS Points.

What do you guys think of the price? I was expecting EA to charge $20, but it looks like they choose a more reasonable price point.

No date has been announced, but it is still on track for Winter.

Depending on the amount of maps offcourse 15 dollars sounds really cheap and aweome to me! Battlefield 1943 is also $15 right, but that has only 3 maps (4 if you include the airplanes only map). I was expecting this to cost more so; awesome!
I can't wait, i didn't buy MoH because of this expansion, i mean more Battlefield who can say no to that!?

They confirmed four maps, although we don't know if that means two rush, two conquest, or 4 rush and 4 conquest, or anything in between.

$15 is perfect. I was expecting something like 20-25. Now that it's been priced, I'd expect a release date soon.

@pwnasaurus: Yeah, I'm wondering if he means broken as in actually broken to where it doesn't work.  It's not worked for me before three times standing against a sniper's back and knifing with my crosshairs on his spine, 3/4s up his back.  Probably due to lag.

@Tennmuerti Aesthecally, it will be pretty similar to BC2 (in terms of jungle and stuff).

Like people are saying, the lack of 4x optics should make the combat more exciting (providing that the weapons are not super accurate).

Looking forward to it, I just hope we get 4 rush and 4 conquest maps, but I kind of doubt that at the $15 price point.

I remember faintly having read something somewhat official on the EA UK Battlefield forums about how all 4 maps are gonna be Conquest and Rush enabled from the get-go.

Then again, there's rumors that we'll get even more maps and that BF:BC 2 will get another free mappack with 2 BF:BC 1 remakes and mode variants for existing maps, as well as another balancing/bug fixing patch...

A whole lot of stuff should be coming up pretty soon, now that MoH is finally out of the door.

There might be MP FPS games that are just as fun as BF:BC 2, but none are even nearly as interactive/dynamic as BF:BC 2 and that's all thanks to the Frostbite engine.

At least 4 maps. 15 new weapons. 6 new vehicles. 46 Vietnam era music tracks.

It's essentially an official 'Total Conversion Mod' for BF:BC 2.

For that price, who the hell wouldn't want to get it?

On the official EA UK Battlefield forums, some fans keep an eye on DICE's internal playtest servers. Don't ask me how, but they've found out that DICE is playtesting more than 4 maps. Something like 7 or 8. Might just be 4 Concquest 4 Rush variants... but who knows.

And yes, Ride of the Valkyries is in.

The engine has a lot of though put into it for the consoles. When your primary development is the console, one may forget or ignore issues/vulnerabilities that may exist if it were to be ported onto the PC. I bet these hacks, in the videos above, would work on the console too, but there are most likely hurdles restricting such ability; hurdles that are not present on the PC. They did not foresee this on the PC because they did not develop it with a PC mind, I think.

When you hear devs talking about 'streamlining' shit, you know what they mean? They don't want to consider too many variables. They want to make a cookie cutter game; a one size fits all type of game. They don't want to dedicate time now to really highlight the high points of each system. They have one core gameplay and want to mirror it to all systems.

BF2 was the last PC battlefield game. With BF3, Demize the dev person, said they would show extra attention to the PC. WTF does that mean?  With BF2 did they say they would show extra attention to the PC version?  or extra attention to the consoles for BF2:MC ??

Look at the thread I made in BF3 forum:

PC players have their own set of requirements. They tend to play only on PC, and they know their PCs have capabilities beyond that of a console. The gap is narrowing, but PCs still have a clear advantage in memory. PC players also demand a PC interface, a server browser, and anything that feels like it might have been "ported" from a console is going to get flamed hard. They are more forgiving of complex systems and will tear any design down into its parts to really figure out how it works. It's a damn sight harder to please a PC player, they have higher expectations.

Look at this analysis done by the dev... it's like he is psychologically trying to "figure" PC users out.

Clearly these words reflect the move to the console as the primary development and the PC having the port. However for BF3 PC there will be 'extra attention'. If he wanted to be clear he could have said there would be a forked game. Consoles will have different, 'smaller', maps and less features vs the PC version which will have different, 'larger', maps and more features. That's all he had to say, in some fashion. However  he was very political in his words.

Have any of you played BF2? Do you know the amount of keys on the keyboard you have access to? There are many features and there are tools to modify them as well.

They have a fire selector switch in BF2, semi or full auto, or burst... You could drive a vehicle and fire primary and secondary guns. In BC2 you have to choose the perk to use the secondary machine gun. They made choices that were not fun. Hey, you want to drive the tank in reverse? you need the "Reverse driving" perk, otherwise you can't. You want reload the tank, after you fire? You got it, you need the "Reload tank ammo" perk. So stupid. Hey, you breathed out.... you know you need a perk to breathe in?

You playing MOH? You choose the sniper class and your rifle starts of with a Red Dot sight? What the fuck? LOL. Who the hell makes this shit up? I mean what the fuck. You can go into a fucking Walmart and pick up a stupid rifle with a proper scope. Red dot, what the fuck. And you have to unlock a proper scope in MOH. So stupid. I feel sorry for those of you who bought stupidity twice in a row.

I hope they are not thinking of this for BF3. Seriously. They limit the game in stupid ways to make you feel like there is a lot of content still to be revealed, when in fact when you look at the content as a whole.... there isn't much of it.

You have a pencil. It's one whole stick of pencil. Very plain but very useful as a whole. But what happens if I break it into TWO parts and I have to make you grind to earn the eraser half? HOLY SHIT yo... if I grind, I can get the fucking eraser and then I can........... ERASE what I wrote......... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH.

Are you people fucking serious? Instead of adding new content, like a pen, they break the old content into parts and make you 'work' to access the basic. This gives the impression of more content because there is more 'work' to do. When in fact it is very restrictive. The old games gave more freedom. Today you have to 'earn the whole pencil' instead of starting with it from the start. And people are content with that type of game, I'm not.

It seems as if a developer is measured by how they can pace unlocks today. I consider this a bad WoW trend. Ever since WoW, everything and your mom can be acquired only after grinding.  When people write game reviews they should consider the content as a whole and not looking at the pace of unlocking content. I feel if one looks at the content as a whole, after unlocking, then one will see how thin a game is.

I think developers are using rpg elements irresponsibly, over using it. They are making it the highlight of the game. Instead of strategy and tactics, think about points, unlocks and in-game achievements.

These achievements and rewards and unlocks were very common place in consoles, from my view. Then the some developers got lazy/poor and said "Why are we spending so much money making different games for consoles and PC?" So they are trying to make PC players want to be like console players by wanting silly features.

I don't think it's an "Us vs Them", thing. It's a business tactic, that is making seem like 'Us vs Them', whereby the publisher/developer wants to make one product and port it to other systems, rather than develop something from the ground up specifically for each system. (There are benefits to this, obviously.)

Many of these companies are not new. They have a history, that's why one can refer to the past and say "You made the game like this in the past and now it's not the same" and criticize them that way. Then they go defensive and say "We will show more attention" as a way to retain customers, but the developers know they won't return to the past as the customers once knew. They do this to hold you, to make you still follow the game. The longer they hold you, possibly the more likely you will buy it in the end.

It's funny how there is a big market for old classical games. Why? Why do people like the old? Those games don't have unlocks or rewards... why? To think about the past? to reminisce? the old games offer a type of gameplay that has not been biz-nified. No DLC, no shit unlocks; you play it and have raw fun; not some restrictive game where you have to earn freedom.

    Exactly this.

When their definition of new maps consist of recycling maps for different game modes, I can barely even believe that this is an 'expansion pack' by their standards.

4 maps plus a new set of guns/vehicles/equipment.  Remember Battlefield 1943?

It's not a mere map pack. It's a total conversion Vietnam modification of BF:BC 2. 15 new weapons. 6 new vehicles. 46 Vietnam themed music tracks. At least 4 all new maps.

Get your facts straight dude. Of course that's a sweet deal. Only being gratis could top this.

You know, the best PC mods are free.

It's a dressed up map pack. Same gameplay (no doubt, with all the same problems as the original). I accept some people like Bad Company and will enjoy this, but the vanilla BC2 needs to be addressed before this. Why are they doing it? So they can mislead people into believing it's a new game, when it's just re-skinned and stripped back BC2. Bleh.

@Jayross:  This how DLC's are done. Screw Activision, EA knows how we want our DLCs.
