The State of Brink?
No idea if people are still playing it, but the game really wasn't very good. Even half price, I wouldn't bother with it.
If it's not dead yet, it will be soon.
It was an easy 1000 gamerscore to bust out in the first few days after it came out. I assume it's dead now. It was near unplayable at launch.
I dunno, I think the time for brink could be coming as god knows there hasn't been one yet :) If the game keeps gettig cheaper and people end up buying it for $10 - $20 you may end up having a much larger community than when It was released. I know they released / are releasing patches and some free DLC. Haven t played it since it came out but id consider picking it up cheap.Personally I think the time for Brink has passed.
I still play weekly games with some guys from Cooptimus - can't really speak about the general player pool though.
Ironically the muted mics by default (which sounded great on paper) didn't help the game at all, made the teams very disconnected.

I rented it about a month ago and never once found a game with more then 4 people.
You need to pick whatever Brink's equivalent of Big Battle to get full games, by default it caps at 4 v 4(humans, rest filled in by AI) to keep connections more stable.
TF2 going free-to-play combined with he fact that it has a much, much lower barrier of entry on the hardware side of things has put the final nails in Brink's coffin and then some.
I used to own it on the ps3 and I can honestly say it had one if the worst match making systems for a multiplayer game. I tried to fool myself thinking it was a good game , since wolfeinstien et is one of my favorites. After a week or so my delusion passed and I realized if I can only play on average with 1-4 other ppl the game is simply busted
The free Steam weekend did spike users over 2000. But as of a week later, it's back down under 1000. Time will tell if they have a niche or are on the way out. I myself was not able to try it because Brink does not like my system. Considering how even the more positive recommendations for this thing are still pretty meh, the $50 Steam pricetag is galling.
I've been keeping track of the daily peak players on Steam. To say the least, things do not look good for BRINK. At the current rate it's going to fall off of Steam's top 100 at any moment. So if Bethesda has a secret patch that makes it good they've been holding back, now would be the time to deploy it. On second thought, no, they should be spending all of their time and money making sure the next batch of games isn't like the previous few.
