Does anyone else find this... ridiculous? I seem to knife people 2 yards in front of me and miss 99% of the time and/or they kill me with bullets first, yet when I try and shoot someone they always get me first or they lunge from 10 yards or more and hit me.
I don't really understand the mechanics of the knife. I hit them spot on, 100% got them, definitely, no doubt, but my guy will miss. Then they will hit me about 2 inches either side and hit me?
Hmm..
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 09, 2010
The seventh installment of the long-running action franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops puts players into the early era of the Cold War (including the Vietnam War) as a member of the United States black operations unit known as the SOG.
Knife Lunge
I love that they've taken out that knife lunge.
It's amusing to see something try to knife me only to take a couple of bullets to the head.
If you're on PS3, I'd call it a latency issue. I've had ridiculous amounts of trouble dealing with lag deaths, including knife kills where my animation starts first, but somehow the other guy gets the kill. I'd say 90% of my deaths are bullshit where I die instantaneously on my end, but the server/opponent end (as shown in the killcam) shows him having a good half-to-whole second of unloading on me.
I almost just wish this were MW2 again. At least in that game the bullshit was all in mechanics that I could take advantage of, rather than mercurial internet issues.
Also, the knifing animation takes too long. I've literally died with my knife in the person. I've also died by lunging past the person.
Overall, I just think Treyarch did a fairly poor job with knifing in this game.

This is a screenshot from my file share of a BS knife kill from a match I played. I call it "Invisible Sword." It was like 1-2 feet away from the guy. It was really bad.
I could go back and find a ton of BS knife kills in my recent game vids. I've got a clip I made of me and another guy killing each other at the exact same time with our knives.
Treyarch knows this is a problem, though, and they're working on fixing it. Or at least, they've said as much in their PS3 community update. Not sure about 360, but I'm assuming it's the same.
The knife in Black Ops reminds me of the power bar you would use in games like NFL or Golf.
In Search I knifed a guy in the chest, I mean literally even on his screen it showed the knife puncturing his heart. After that he just killed me like it was nothing...
BBBBUUUULLLLLLLLLSSSSHHHHIIIITTTT!!!!!
I feel your pain.
Or wait, I would, if I had bought the damn game. MW2 players should have been able to foresee this problem. Did they include akimbo model 1887's, by the way?

" Seems like all of these shooters have horrible knifing mechanics. BC2, MAG, Call of duty.... "
This man raises an interesting point though; there are actually no current-gen FPS games with a proper damn knife mechanic. I at least cannot think of one. Suggestions?
That's pretty much exactly what it was. I just didn't make a good video to go with it. Infuriating no matter who it happens to thought." @Lukeweizer: That's nothing compared to what happened to me a short while ago.

You guys know that theatre mode isn't an accurate representation of what is actually happening, right? the only person that sees what is actually happening is the host of the game.
Overall, the knife is a lot better than it was at the game's launch. They have toned down its range quite a bit from the launch, and that's good. The knife should really only be a slash type use, it shouldn't have lunge.
" commando made things easier back in the day. "Whoever thought it would be a good idea to increase the knifing range with 233% (AKA commando perk) should be neutered, glad they didn't put it in this game, although I still think it's a bit annoying. I had hoped the initial rummer was true, that you had to give up your secondary for the knife, and melee would be reduced to hitting someone with your weapon, resulting in two-hit kills.

" Makes for interesting matches, just seeing people run around with knives. "
Pretty much what I do. 20k kills and 10k of those are knife kills
I do agree that alot of it has to do with connections but i can say that the knifing in this game is the most retarded melee i have ever seen in a fps and ive played medal of honor airborne
The knife lunge kill is the most broken thing in Blops. It's unfair and so rediculous(across a room lunges through gunfire are routine, lol), and encourages people to main the fucking knife. WTF were they thinkin? Everything else about the mp I can accept, and overall I find the mp a blast...,but the knife lunge is just too stupid.

I've died a number of times trying to knife someone, only to take a nice big swipe at the air and eat a couple bullets. I think it's much better now.
Anything taken from a saved video file cannot be taken as what really happened an is by no means proof of anything. I have rewatched videos of matches of a friend who i just saw play the actual match, and during the video his crosshair was about 5 feet away from the person he shot, even though in the real game it was not. This was another system Treyarch put in without fully supporting it. They threw it in and decided it was good enough, and in the grand scheme of watching a cool match, it is. But it is not an accurate way to ever show how "cheap" or "unfair" something is, given its limitations due to latency/lag/network difficulties. This is really to anyone on the thread who posted similar videos or screenshots from a video taken off the BLOPS video system." @Adziboy said:
