Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 Review

With World at War already out four months it was about time for some new maps to head our way. The three maps don't really bring anything new to the multilayer for World at War but the new Nazi Zombie map is definitely something that is worth playing.

Let’s start with the normal three maps. Station is basically a remake of mission10 in the single player Eviction. The train track has been filled in to create a flat plain and there are a couple of high areas for snipers. The second Knee Deep is a new style map. It takes place in a Japanese village where there the vegetation provides great cover and as usual you have a central point where most of the action goes down. There are multiple ladders and buildings to enter to provide cover around the map. The final map, Night Fire is interesting in the sense that it is not. Again nothing will surprise you in this map and there are flaming building at night, hence the name Night Fire. I might be sounding negative towards these three maps but truly they don't bring anything to the game. If you enjoy World at War then you might be a bit disappointed as it is just the same type of maps. On the other hand you might like that and then these maps are great. My disappointment is that it just looks like the same environments you saw from the campaign. I would have like to have seen another Creek type of map like in Call of Duty 4.

The next map, Verruckt is the second map for the Nazi Zombie game mode. This map is a bit different to the first one though in the sense that if you are playing with two or more people your team is split up. Then you must battle through multiple rooms to get to the electricity room to turn the power back on to open the door. This makes the zombie matches a bit more chaotic and is great to actually have a objective to accomplish. Once you have reunited then it is back to your normal kill, kill, kill. On the other hand, there are some new features like the Perk Soda's around the map. These are vending machines which dispenses perks that you drink. So for example Jugg-a-nog is none other than the Juggernaut perk. These perks makes the zombie matches slightly more tactical as many one of you will get the quick revive perk to help team mates whilst others have Juggernaut or the Sprint perk. There are your standard weapons dotted around the map and finally there is the mystery box. If you don’t know this is where you spend x amount of money to get a weapon but you don’t know what it will be. However, they have added a teddy bear. That's right a teddy, but this is no ordinary teddy. This teddy is deadly. Yes he will change up the map. This teddy takes your magical box and teleports it somewhere else on the map, just to add to the chaos around you.

Overall, this map pack is decent but it is a shame that the three normal maps aren’t enough for me to get back into the multiplayer for World at War. However, the zombie map is something which makes up for at least half of my purchase and is very fun even after the fiftieth time.
