Call of the Dead is a new Zombies map released for Call of Duty: Black Ops as part of the Escalation DLC pack that Treyarch released earlier this year. It takes place in a desolate area of the Siberian tundra next to the frozen ruins of a broken cargo ship and a old Soviet lighthouse. The players are once again are tasked with surviving the never-ending onslaught of the Zombie hordes, while also dealing with a new, dangerous threat: a massive, almost-godlike George Romero and his massive light club that zaps users with a disorienting jolt of electricity whenever they are hit by it.

Much like the "FIVE" Zombie map, Call of the Dead adds four new characters that the gamer can play as; Danny Trejo, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Englund, and Micheal Rooker. These new characters each come with a set of their own unique sayings, making various comments in regards to what is happening around them or when it comes to their ammunition for your current weapon. In addition, it also introduces new weapons and perks to use against the hordes of the undead.

    Enemies

The primary enemies for CALL OF THE DEAD is the standard Nazi Zombie-mode zombies, just re-tooled with new appearances to match the overall frozen tundra theme of the level. The primary difference is that CALL OF THE DEAD features a "mini-boss" that affects the behavior of the zombies in the map.

    1. Zombies

The standard-fare enemy of the Nazi Zombies mode for both Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty: Black Ops. They emerge from the ground in specific locations or will enter the map through boarded up windows or holes in walls. They are typically slow and will make their way towards the closest player in their general area. When damaged, they will start losing limbs (depending on where you damage them), die, or become Crawler Zombies, slower variations of the standard zombie that has no legs and attacks your ankles.

    2. Crawler Zombies

Created when the legs of the standard zombies are blown off, the Crawler Zombie uses it's arms to crawl after players and will savagely swipe at your ankles if you let them get too close. Best method of killing these enemies is with headshots or the use of the Ray Gun/Scavenger Rifle guns.

    3. George Romero Zombie

As mentioned earlier, a "larger than life" George Romero that is possessed by a strange power wanders slowly around the map towards the closest player in his general vicinity. He wields a massive lighting fixture as a club, which he uses to smash and slam whoever comes within his reach. His weapon also is electrically charged, and will zap the player into a state of slowed movement whenever it comes into contact with you.

You can technically "kill" him and send him off of the map by giving enough damage to him, but he will return the following round with full health. When attacked, George lets out a primal roar of rage and jumps into the air, slamming his club down on the ground for a attack that zaps everyone within a certain distance of him. He will then start sprinting towards the nearest player and will continuously attack them until he is led into the area of water at the spawning point in front of the Quick Revive Cola machine. When enraged, the zombies on the map will speed up and viciously attack players as long as George is running around in his rage.

Musical Easter Egg: Not Ready to Die by Avenged Sevenfold

As seen in the other Nazi Zombies maps, there are once again three hidden chunks of the meteor that contain the Element-115 spread around the map for the player to find. You will know that you are close to the location of one of the meteors whenever you begin to hear a strange, alien-like sound becoming noticeable over the normal sounds of standard gameplay. When you have found all three meteor chunks, the song for CALL OF THE DEAD will begin to play for all players active on the map. The song for CALL OF THE DEAD is "Not Ready to Die" by Avenged Sevenfold, and at just over seven minute long, it is the longest easter egg song ever to be used for a Nazi Zombies map. It marks only the 2nd Nazi Zombies map from Treyarch to not feature a song by Elena Siegman (FIVE featured Eminem and Pink's Won't Back Down).

Map Easter Egg: Tank, Nikolai, Richtofen, and Takeo in Teleport Room

A special easter egg that can be actively engaged by the players in CALL OF THE DEAD involves the four main Nazi Zombies characters from Kino der Toten and the last two World at War Nazi Zombies maps, Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Dr. Edward Richtofen, and Takeo. After the power is activated on the map, you can come across this special easter egg on the lower floor of the lighthouse on the left side of the map. Just listen for the banging on the door and the familiar voices of Tank, Nikolai, Richtofen, and Takeo when in the Lighthouse and knife the metal door to begin the multiple tasks that they request of you.
