Corpse

Dead bodies seen in a game can either be your doing, or someone else's doing. Corpses will sometimes have loot or other plot-worthy material. Other corpses are merely decorative and let the player know bad business has gone down before he/she got there.

Some games have disappearing corpses, typically for technical reasons, while others remain in-world, which is handy for letting you know where you have already been.
