Overview
Dazzler was originally conceived as a disco singer. She was created by a committee of Marvel's staff, including writer/editer Tom DeFalco and illustrator John Romita, Jr. and first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #103 just before the Dark Phoenix Saga. Dazzler's creation originated through an agreement between Marvel and a music company, but while the agreement was eventually called off, Marvel continued to pursue the idea, leading to her debut.
Dazzler's introduction coincided with the end of the disco era. With the concept behind her character based in capitalizing on a dying fad, she is one of the less popular of Marvel's characters, though not without fans. She has also appeared in several video games in both playable and non-playable forms, most notably as one of the six playable mutants in Konami's X-Men arcade game.
