its nothing LIKE alpha protocol by the way, i was just using it as an example of a polarizing flawed game >_>

I loved Alpha Protocol, so I can look past a flawed game. However, nothing about Dead Island looks interesting to me, so I'll give it a miss unless it goes really cheap.

@Rhaknar: So, this year's game-that-I'm-kind-of-interested-in-but-the-reception-is-lukewarm-so-I'll-postpone-getting-it-until-a-year-later-during-a-huge-Steam-sale-at-75%-off game?

for most people probably. You just described the latest Driver to me for example :)
#8 Posted by The_Nubster (2098 posts) -

This is about what I expected. The gameplay trailer they released a while back looked really icky in a lot of spots and the combat looked pretty awkward. If there's a Steam sale and I have a few friends who will also pick it up, or if I find it really cheap at a-gasp!-retail store, I'll get it.

There's some good scores in there! I really liked Alpha Protocol, so I'm sure I'll be able to look past the problems in this.

Be like this years Alpha Protocol? Yikes thats pretty harsh isn't it? That games combat was fundamentaly broken unless you had a guide, but the rest of the game had some cool ideas. I get you were just using it as an example though and you were by no means comparing the two.

#13 Posted by Sticky_Pennies (2019 posts) -

I'll probably buy it when it's on sale or somesuch. I'm more excited for RAGE, in terms of an open world shootermabob, right now.

#14 Posted by Heltom92 (709 posts) -

I'm pretty sure AP got way worse reviews than this game.

#15 Posted by DeeGee (2121 posts) -

@UnrealDP: I didn't use a guide, and I was one shotting people by the end of the game. What about the combat was so broken? I mean, it wasn't great because of dice rolls and stuff ... but there was nothing about it that needed a guide. Wanna shoot better? More points into guns please! Wanna knife dudes? Stealth it up!

Boss fights kinda sucked though.

So.. Games aight?

I thought the game was going to be garbage from everything I seen, so the reviews I have read acutally sound really, really good. It's certainly not something I would pay 60 dollars for, but I'll be very interested once the price drops down around 30 or so.

seems so :p at worst its "aight" like you said. Here's the (long ass) video review of that Destructoid 7/10:

@Rhaknar: So it looks like they've looked at all the reviews and fixed a bunch of things already. Well, at least that's good news.

you got my hopes up comparing this to alpha protocol but you LIED.

patch wise? seems so... one of the reviews (gametrailers?) mentioned this patch but that they didnt have these fixes at the time of the review, so i guess the patch isnt a response to the reviews per se.

I want this game. Now. Someone give me 60$.

It's only $34 if you buy it on PC from Green Man Gaming. Definitely turned my hesitation into a day one buy with a discount like that.

is it steamworks?

#25 Posted by BaneFireLord (2927 posts) -

I'll wait for a price drop. There are too many AAA games coming out (Batman, Skyrim, etc.) to buy this at full price.

Yup. They just email you the code and you can start preloading immediately. Comes with the free Arena DLC too, but not the Ripper weapon. Still, a crazy great deal.

that is very tempting god damnit D:

#28 Edited by Rhaknar (5939 posts) -

it is Steamworks indeed Lake. Its also $37.50 on steam if you find 3 peeps to buy it with and get the 4pack. In fact, i would be down for that (i still havent bought mine) if anyone wants to try and get a 4-pack going

Also, that Destructoid video is quite good in explaining what the game actually is and isnt, its a bit long but if you want to know more about it I recomend watching it

#29 Posted by BeachThunder (11847 posts) -

Sigh, I keep thinking "nah, I'll pass", then "ooh, actually this looks good", back to "hmm, nah". I don't know what to think ;__;

#30 Posted by Rhaknar (5939 posts) -

so... 4-pack anyone? $37.50, but someone from the US would have to host it (because 150euros is NOT 150dollars Valve >_>)

=( oh no, now you've got me considering this.

Um, don't take this as a yes though. I definitely need more convincing that this is worth 37.50 D:

Not a review, but the start of a walkthrough, I think it could help some people decide:

fuck it I bought it too at that price :p

Killing zombies, sandbox map, countless weapons. I'm down to play right away.

Honestly this is just my opinion but why do people care about reviews so much? Who cares what other people think, it's what you think of the game. If you don't want to buy and are a little on the fence, then just rent the bloody thing. I will not and never will base my decisions on what reviews say and always love to try out a new game every once in a while. I can only stick to one game for so long...

@BeachThunder: The narrator of that video is goddamn obnoxious.

Christ, I can't watch it anymore. There must be a better video without someone talking over the whole thing.

Good reviews so far, that's awesome!

I care, because it prevents me from hearing the sounds of the game. Instead, I have to listen to him drone on about his dreams for a utopian Youtube where everyone is polite and liking each other's videos and his unending adoration for the game's reveal trailer.

#41 Posted by SomeDeliCook (2294 posts) -

This is very, VERY pleasing. A 6 being the lowest, and its the only one that low? Sounds like this isn't a flop like The Cartel was. Good enough for me

Not going to list random foreign sites, sorry.

I guess I need to go to Gamebomb for the real story…

#43 Edited by UnrealDP (1222 posts) -

@DeeGee:

So at the end of the game you were one shoting people. What about all the parts before that? Did you ever like the shooting? That game had some really great ideas when it game to dialogue and choice, but at any point it becomes a video game with stealth or shooting it never felt good. I'm not saying that combat is what makes a game, but when shooting feels so bad that most people (apparently not you) have to use a guide because thaty didn't feel like going stealth or they didn't luck out by picking the wrong weapon really sucks.

Is this more to your liking :o
#45 Posted by DAFTPUNK (1213 posts) -

this game looks super fun, I will get it when it is on sale though.

#46 Posted by Hailinel (24413 posts) -

@BeachThunder: Much better, thank you!

It's not just Fallout: Zombies, is it?

I was kind of hoping for more out of this game.

Me and my friend just bought copies on Steam, looking forward to the co-op.

43$? How come is shows 42 dollars for me? I'm i Canada, so price should be exactly like in the US, and they usually always are.
