What's the story behind the Deadly Premonition endurance run? I just started watching it and noticed that Jeff and Vinny are playing it and Brad and Ryan? Were they racing eachother or something? And which group is better if i'm going to watch one straight through? Also did this predate Patrick?
Deadly Premonition
Game » consists of 11 releases. Released Feb 23, 2010
An open-world action-adventure game following an eccentric FBI agent as he investigates a series of bizarre murders in the small rural town of Greenvale.
Hmm? DP Story?
@jennibelle: Personally, I'd say the Vinny and Jeff run is better, but that's for two reasons.
1. Vinny "Vinn Co" Caravella.
2. Ryan is great in his run, but I still have a hard time watching some old content with Ryan in it.
So, I'd recommend the Vinny and Jeff run. Brad and Ryan are good at getting across how bad it is as a game, and Vinny and Jeff are good at getting across why many may appreciate it anyway. A hilarious, interesting cult classic.
If you have trouble watching Brad at his Bradliest, you may get a bit frustrated watching the BR run. I think the end death count was something like 4 for Vinny and around 25 for Brad. It's certainly got great moments, and both Brad and Ryan are enjoyable to listen to, it just takes a bit of endurance (hah) to get through with some of Brad's less than great play.
Wall Bitches.
You'll find out.
UGH! You made me remember!!

Isn't there a moment where Ryan takes over and does something in 1 try that Brad has died repeatedly on? I'm remembering the woman on the ceiling in that one hallway specifically. I watched their run and never watched the VJ run. Might do that soon.
For gameplay, go with Vinny and Jeff's run since Vinny has fun with the game and is more competent at it than Brad is. Towards the end however, I'd go with Brad and Ryan mainly because of how into it Ryan was. His reactions to how everything turns out made it a hundred times better than Vinny and Jeff's playthrough.
The best one is VJ for commentary, but there's some really hilarious stuff in the BR one too.
I like both of them but Brad complains a lot during the endurance run for DP and sometimes it's hard to watch. He can't seem to just have fun with it sometimes and other times he seems like hes cool with it. Ryan is great, though, and always trying to get Brad to enjoy himself.
You can always watch one now and another several months from now, too. The BR one is longer than VJ because VJ were blasting through it. Since it's an open world game, though, they actually do go about it completely differently. There's great moments in both ERs.
A lot of people miss some amazing moments in the BR one because they don't like how Brad plays. Their loss.
They never said why there was two ERs back to back. So, I cant answer your other question.
Edit: oh and yes it was a little before Patrick started working for Giantbomb. You can see Patrick talk about DP when he was at G4 (at the time). They had a lengthy discussion about it on their podcast at the time.

Agghhhhhhhhhh... Who FK'd in your coffee this morning to make you remind us about that?
Think i'm enjoying the Brad/Ryan one more. But i'm only 2 episodes in on each. What was the reasoning behind doing two streams of it anyway?
I think they were trying to get picked up for those double mint gum commercials.
@jennibelle: To my understanding, they all wanted to play it, and it was an experiment. (that wasn't repeated. ha)
@artelinarose: Dirty mind >:O
How much of the side stuff did they do in these runs? The combat is easily the low point of the game and I can't imagine watch them play mostly combat would be all that entertaining.

Both groups did a fair amount of stuff off the beaten path, or at least it seemed that way to me, someone who's never played DP.
