Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Game » consists of 17 releases. Released Aug 23, 2011
Human Revolution is the third game in the Deus Ex series, a prequel where players take control of augmented security officer Adam Jensen, and investigate attacks against Sarif Industries, a leader in augmentation technology.
what style of gameplay are you doing for first playthrough?
i kinda want to be a master sniper assassin so ill probrably go more the stealth route. but what are you guys doing for your first run through the story?
Stealth. If I like the game enough to do a second playthrough, I'm thinking a mix of social and action. I want to be James Bond.
I will obsessively non-lethal stealth the game just like I do every game that gives me the option. Not because I have qualms with murder, it's just so much more badass and ninja.
Here is a transcript of me playing Deus Ex.
/sneak sneak sneak sneak
/hack something
/sneak sneak sneak sneak
/lockpick something
/sneak sneak sneak sneak
/carry a crate to put on electrified water
/sneak sneak sneak sneak
/climb into a vent
/crawl in the vent
/go to a vent opening
/see a guy
/open vent
/fire tranq dart
/duck back into vent
"FACIST!"
2 seconds elapse
"FACIST"
"Urgh...."
/crawl out of vent
/loot body
/crawl back in vent
/repeat from the top
I imagine Deus Ex HR will be very much the same.
Stealth prob, If it allows me I will try and speak through stuff.Same here stealth and speech.
The same way I play all games that gives me this option; stealthy like a ghost. Nothing beats never being seen. If I manage it I'll also not kill that many. I did beat the first Deus Ex with only a dozen kills or so. That was my third playthrough though...
I'm horrible at stealth but I will go a stealth/social route. As little fighting as possible, non-lethal.
Stealth of course. i'm gonna keep at it until i master it, and thoroughly enjoy it in the process!
I have more than enough run-and-gun games, i won't waste this unique experience by playing like that aswell.
“Stealth” I guess, though I’m going to handle every enemy on missions to milk as much credits and XP as I can. I just won’t let them see me. :P
A friendly word of warning to everyone going "stealth" -
The actual invisibility ability is very very short in duration so don't rely just on it for sneaking. It's a usefull clutch tool, but you can stay undetected without it in almost every situation.
IMO hacking and speech are initially way more important to develop in terms of allowing you to get more XP and more access to areas.

@Tennmuerti: I usually go the hacking/ lock picking & Speech route but I'm worried that there are too many missions that you cant talk your way into (ie, enemy warehouses and bases). Is speech as useful in this as other games in the genre?
It's only usefull at certain points to get easier access to things, extra XP, info or sometimes more options in situaton resolution etc. Main missions you still need to traverse through either disposing of enemies or avoiding them.
But to get the extra speech augmentations requires very little investment. I'm not gonna say much more if people don't want any spoilers at all. If you do then there is a thread with a list of augmentations to give you an idea.
Wow, looks like everyone is going for stealth. Hey Eidos, maybe you should have just made a stealth game!
I for one enjoy my options, and hope to adapt based on what seems realistic/safest/ethical. Deus Ex isn't about seeing if you can get to the end without killing anybody, it's about making decisions that you can feel comfortable with given the situation. Also, it's about finding the most bad ass way of getting from point A to point B.
Kill everyone in sight with my robot hands. Stealth might occur as a byproduct of my wanton slaughter.
Kill everyone all the time always. "Oh you say you'll unlock the door for me if I do something for you. HEADSHOT. I'll be taking the key now, thanks. "

It's different things to different people. I'm plenty sure there will still be way more people playing it as a shooter, this topic isn't a good vertical slice by any means.
Trying to finish the original Deus Ex without killing anyone (bar the couple obvious people) was a fun challange for many.
For me personally it's about neither stealth nor killing nor getting from A to B. It's about exploration, finding every little nook and crany possible, all possible routes, all hiden places, locked areas, conversations etc.
i'll probably do the jack of all trades route. probably end up sucking at everything and making it super hard, but meh.
i like the idea of getting to a mission, going "i think ill stealth this one" and then going to the next and thinking "i'll rush in this time"
i always attempt the jack of all trades style of gameplay, that way i get the most out of a single playthrough as possible and i dont get burned out by always playing each mission the same way.

I think it has a lot to do with it being optional.
I will also try to be as "humane" as possible, but sometimes the stealthy way doesn't have to be the most humane way and when it's not I will adapt my playstyle to whatever I see fit. I'm kinda cursed with always having to play games as the good guy unless you are not given a choice.
