Blizzard phoning another one in
While this expansion has changed and improved the original release of Diablo 3, It doesn't feel like there is much new content here.
I played Diablo 3 when it first came out I put 30 hours into the game and it felt like there was a lot to do, many interesting choices to make; in preparation for this expansion I started a new character and played through the original game again in a third of the time, nothing seemed to matter, there is no strategy just pound on enemies until they are dead then go onto the next. This new expansion is just more of that, not much more, only one act which took maybe 5 hours to play through.
The boss battles are very disappointing, doubly so because I know how well they can design an interesting boss fight from playing WoW, the boss fights in diablo never go past "don't stand in the fire" which is one of the most basic concepts in all of gaming, they could do a lot more but they haven't and that is incredibly disappointing.
I did enjoy the seasonal characters which are new in this expansion and I look forward to building a class set of armour.
It's funny that RTS games are credited as the precursor to the MOBA genre, this is probably the first ARPG that I've played since spending a lot of time playing various MOBAs and this game plays almost exactly the same as Heroes of the Storm with gear and better talents, kind of makes me excited for what they can do with that game.
All in all this game just felt like a fairly average, phoned in expansion to a decent game.
