I use to love disgaea games to death. The first two games are some of my fondest ps2 memories. I've beaten all of them, actually I've beaten every game nis has ever made. Being a ps+ member I downloaded disgaea 3 for free on the vita and played it for a few hours.

God damn disgaea games are fucking terrible. I don't know how I ever had the patience to play through 4 of these games. The sear amount of bullshit you have to go through to complete a single turn is ridiculous. Fire emblem, x-com, even advance wars functions so much amazingly smoother and snappier than disgaea. Newer better strategy rpgs have spoiled me to disgaea's horribly outdated way of playing.

You kept going til 4? I quit when the series "jumped" to PS3.

i dont know dude i spend the first 4 hours of every disgaea game going "god damn it why did i ever like disgaea?" but next thing i know im 40 hours in and my social life is suffering. still psyched for D2 comin out.

I see what you mean about completing a turn, but that really only applies to main-game.

Anyhow, I personally love the series. It's my second favorite, behind SMT, and in front of Final Fantasy.

Welcome to me 20 hours into playing the first game before realizing "Holy shit this game is all grinding and really forced anime humor, isn't it?"

Those were pretty much my thoughts exactly when I played the first one on PS2 back in the day. Well that plus the loli art style, and I love strategy rpg's even from Vandal Hearts on PS1 to Kartia:World of Fate.

Now that new console ZHP game coming out, very excited for that.

The mechanics of Disgaea is kind of "bullshitty", agreed. Still love it though, one of a kind. The just need to hire Firaxis as consults.

It actually had the opposite effect on me for some reason. Threw about a 100 hours into it before obtaining the platinum trophy which gave me a reason to stop. Disgaea 3 on the go worked a lot better for me than the console version.

As Disgaea's lone defender, I think anyone badmouthing It should be tarred and feathered, then tarred again, and then,,, I don't know. Egged and battered? Loooooove me some Disgaea, but I admit, only crazy people do!

Disagea is the deep end of the pool for strategy games. Its ALL about the grinding and meticulous nature of it. That rubs a lot of people the wrong way but I think there is validity to what the game does. I had fun with D3 for as long as it held my attention.

I say the same thing every time a new Disgaea game comes out. Then, 200 hours later, I wonder what the fuck happened.

I'm with you, but I do not think that punishment is severe enough. We need to condemn these people to a lifetime of playing something like Drake of the 99 Dragons or Big Rigs. That way, it slowly drives them insane...

It's a super traditional tactical RPG, not really anything particularly modern about it but it's not offensively bad or "terrible" either except for it being anime.

They're designed for fucking crazy people, and they're great.

As far as the topic goes, C'MON MAN! Cheesing all the systems to level up your characters and weapons is what makes the Disgaea games great. You already named three really good "easy" strategy games, leave this one to the people that want to spend 10 hours defeating an item god in a pack of ABC gum.

The two big things Disgaea 3 included:

- Magi-change

Although some Monster types are useful in themselves but now any monster can be useful by transforming into a weapon for a character can use. It is also handy for removing a heavily hurt monster from the fight quickly.

- Streamlined Story Mode

An issue with Disgaea and Disgaea 2 were they had too many chapters that were simply filler. In Disgaea 3, the story has no filler chapters which makes doing story runs much quicker.

As for the turns, hmm, I don't remember the turns taking so much more time than Disgaea or Disgaea 2 (or Disgaea 4 for that matter). For all of the changes they've done to individual mechanics the actual "turn" is still very much the same. Unless there is some Vita specific thing that has happened I'm not sure what the complaint is.

I'm getting older and I guess I just don't have the patience anymore.
