I bought Duke Nukem at a midnight sale at Best Buy, and found that it was rather mediocre.  While I was glad to get it and see what they had done with Duke after 12 years, the game didn't have the same feel as the original.  While it did take 12 years to release, I get the impression that this was put together in the 6 months or so from the time the game was canceled to this one being released.  The game didn't have any major defects, and it seemed like all the parts were in place (wild weapons, one liners and strippers) the parts didn't live up to the original.

It's actually scary how fast the video game industry evolves grows.  In the music or movie world, it took them decades to get from one style to the next, the evolution felt natural.
In the video game world, we had a huge fucking radical evolution in 30 years or so.. Last night we were laughing at Duke's awesome one liners, today we're making fun of him.

It feels like this industry is like that man baby from Children's Hospital who went from a baby to a young man to an old one in a matter of days. Scary.

Well yes, you've pretty much summed up the general opinion of the entire internet.

Except many people would be less charitable.

Duke Nukem Forever really is a huge failure in terms of game quality. I didn't expect much from it after its development cycle but pretty much every aspect of it falls flat on its face and its extremely generous to describe it as mediocre.

Well that is a bit of comparing Oranges with Apples, If by evolution you mean technicall, production and marketing yeah not just Video Games the whole IT industry is super dynamic. If by evolution you mean narrative qualities, social and cultural relevance CInema is still loops ahead of video games.. This would be like comparing Deus Ex with Blade Runner.

As an interactive experience Deus is Ok, as a narrative work is still poor compared to most Sci-Fi classics.

Also the dynamism of Video Games is not in the Video Games per se, but in the current IT tools that allow to produce and evolve media faster than ever, not just in Video Games but in Cinema, Music, Tv etc..,

I liked the game. Nothing groundbreaking, but good old fun. It's a Duke Nukem game: strippers, guns and pig aliens.
