After 14 years, the Duke finally returns. Is that a good thing?

No. No its not. I just finished it on PC, the version with fast loadtimes. The game is not so terrible that its good, its just a mediocre tedious piece of software. All I can really say about it, positively, its that the shooting works and some few environments do not feels as contrived as a corridor shooter a la Call of Duty. Still, most of the jokes fall flat, the environments are boring, the enemies are no fun to fight and the pacing is a drag. The only reason you can say this is a good game is if:

    1) You like every FPS ever conceived (including Daikatana and Darkest of Days).

    2) Have the mind of a adolescent child that laughs at the mere mention of "shit" and "piss".

    3) Youre justifying the absurd amount of money this game costs new.

    4) Your nostalgia and hard on for Duke is so strong it makes you think youre playing a good game.

I can understand that its a miracle this game came out and the morbid curiosity we all had but giving a pass for this full price game is not possible. I had some fun on the early levels of the game but it soon became a boring mess. If you want a piece of history of videogames, fine, go get it if that's your thing. Saying that the game is good however is just delusion. Personally, Duke Nukem Forever was way more fun when it wasn't available to us all, being just a legend of troubled development.

Duke Nukem Forever is quite possibly the best example of game design evolution ever conceived. From the antiquated character design and minimal plot to the inconsistent pacing and repetitive gameplay, Duke feels old. I would like to say It's a product of its time, but I can't be sure when that time was.The story of DNF takes place 12 years after the events of Duke 3D. Aliens are back to steal babes, President doesn't like you, Army General does. Go. Along the way you'll also run into Dylan, you k...

Forever in the making, but still not sure of its identity 0

A few years ago Duke Nukem Forever was dead. Sent to the doldrums of many a cancelled game, destined to never see the light of day. And yet here we are; the year is 2011 and Duke Nukem Forever is actually a finished game – a physical item you can sit down and play yourself. It’s quite a surreal experience considering the twelve year development hell that became the gaming industry’s longest running joke. It had gone through multiple iterations before Gearbox picked it up and set about finishing ...
