E3 2011: Dust 514 Trailer

Nice. More space and shooting is always appreciated.

Interesting... does CCP have a pedigree for this kind of thing? Did they hire anyone important? Seems odd.

#3 Posted by ArcLyte (881 posts) -

fuck sony for trying to grab as many exclusive deals as fucking possible. i really wanted to play this. fuck.

#4 Posted by Dyram (148 posts) -

CCP is one of the few companies left that actually knows what they are doing when it comes to MMOs anymore, or at least open-ended games.

I'm curious if the battles will be more like Battlefield server-and-a-map structured, PlanetSide MMO "living world" style, or some sort of special, more narrative-driven thing. This trailer in particular looks like a very structured mission. Maybe the game will have a campaign as well on the side? I can't quite imagine how CCP would handle MMO FPS combat in such a style as shown.

And what level of interaction will there really be with Eve itself? Is it just like API/data driven, by sovereignty and whatnot, or is there literal direct interaction with players in Eve itself, with transportation, coporation funding, and the like?

Alright, the idea that people playing an fps can blow up a some guy playing an mmo's spaceship in another game is pretty interesting!

edit: Oh I just noticed it's PS3 exclusive. Dumb idea, CCP. There's your first big mistake.

#6 Posted by Xpgamer7 (2377 posts) -

Looks interesting if too Killzone Grey colored. I bet the thing that's going to come into play will be money both earned and spent.

Did they say it was exclusive to the PS3 console or platform? Cause I know they said FFXIV was exclusive to PS3, but it's also on PC.

I'm loving the idea this has, and it would give me a reason to "play" eve

#9 Posted by polyorpheus (40 posts) -

I'm cautiously optimistic. It will depend on how good the game actually is (the gameplay, graphics quality, performace, etc) and how deep/wide the connection with EVE is. I will say that CCP is great at having huge scale at real time. If DUST and EVE players feel more like they're playing the same game with each other, then this will be very interesting.

In another note, I really hope Microsoft loosens their restriction on XBL. Steam and DUST are/will be doing awesome stuff by doing more of their own platform integration. I think that's partly the reason for the PS3-exclusivity, although I scratch my head at no PC. Hopefully it is a timed exclusive, but I seriously doubt it. I can count the number of multiplayer FPS's with mixed PC/console multiplayer on one hand.

I look forward to bombarding the PS3 players from orbit... :D

Also... 213,333 ISK for front line infantry armor? You could buy a small frigate for that.

#11 Posted by ch3burashka (5009 posts) -

mad isk

#12 Posted by Xtacles (44 posts) -
@Korwin: I was thinking the same thing, some of the units on the field looked so expensive to lose too. The tank and the Command Ship especially.
#13 Posted by TheChaos (1158 posts) -

Interesting.

#14 Posted by Norusdog (340 posts) -

ok this looks nuts

#15 Posted by AaronChance (141 posts) -

With how close minded MS is with Xbox Live, even going so far as to kill the Marvel MMO they had in development, I doubt it was CCP's choice. MS probably slapped on more restrictions than they could deal with.

#16 Posted by 1UStasis (36 posts) -

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

#17 Posted by 1UStasis (36 posts) -

Imma gonna have to Dust (514) off my EVE online account. Got the PS3 sitting right next to the PC with multiple monitors. I will be the most uber Capsuleer ever! xD xD xD

#18 Posted by jamaicanidler (45 posts) -
@ArcLyte: You wantED to play it? What's stopping you? Buy a ps3.
#19 Edited by 1UStasis (36 posts) -
@Dyram
You mean like will we be able to take down Manticores with our shoulder mounted rocket nukes? god damn I hope so...

Hopefully repel pirate invaders and all that good stuff :D
#20 Posted by jamaicanidler (45 posts) -

So, is this an MMO shooter? Or is it a one player story driven kinda thing?
Is the battle ALWAYS different seeing as how things will have effect in the MMO?

From what I am getting, this is like MAG attached to EVE... need more details but interesting nevertheless.

#21 Posted by 1UStasis (36 posts) -
@jamaicanidler: I'm hoping MMO shooter. I played MAG a little bit and it was fun and if this is more of that but updated graphically I could live with that. I really hope you have to charter flights planet to planet via EVE: online players, then they ditch you in wormhole space after taking your money :D

the way they put a price on everything in the trailer leads me to believe that everything, tanks, transport, even the players (soldiers) will cost something to implement. If thats so then the money has to come from EvE which would mean from corporation funding right?

Thats how i see this working at least.

Look guys, I'm a mercenary and THAT looks fucked up

#24 Posted by selbie (1843 posts) -

Hopefully they let you choose which side you want to fight for. I'm guessing from that red hexagonal grid thing planets will be conquered by multiple maps being won.

I hope this hybrid MMO thing will catch on. This could totally work with something like the Halo universe.

#25 Posted by Branwulf (397 posts) -

Should have been on the PC, now it's going to get next to none of the EVE audience interested and get crushed under the dozens on consoles FPS games released on a monthly basis.

#26 Posted by jking47 (1209 posts) -

sweet, I trust CCP more than any other dev probably. EVE online is the best MMO on the market. fuck now I am going to resub

#27 Posted by Marokai (2808 posts) -

I don't think a lot of people realize how truly unique the whole idea behind this game is. It's an unprecedented bridging between two completely different games on totally different platforms. People seem to think this is "just another shooter" but it's really a fascinating experiment that more closely resembles an MMOFPS that is also sort of a companion piece to EVE Online.

Also, it being on the Ps3 is fine, people. Yeah maybe it should be on the PC as well, but who the hell cares? This entire project is about bridging together two completely different things. They've been saying since it was very first announced that it was directed at getting the PC EVE Online players to try their skills in a totally different environment. Apparently alot of diehard EVE players don't like it when they're encouraged to break out of their PC shells.

Looks awesome.

Any synergy with Eve is.. a very cool thing to see. Good work Sony and CCP!

#29 Posted by YoungFrey (1321 posts) -

If you think armor costing the same as a frigate is crazy, wait till Incarana when you'll be able to buy a jacket for the price of a cruiser. My estimate of course. 1 PLEX is over 300M ISK. So if they aim for an item of clothing to be $1, that is 17M ISK. Best not to think about it that way. It's all equal to player time or the cash you bought the PLEX with. That is the comparison that matters.

#30 Posted by sickVisionz (1268 posts) -

I'm super interested in seeing how this integrates into Eve.

#31 Posted by nasie (126 posts) -

Looks cool, good dev as well.

#32 Posted by Ulong (444 posts) -

This looks cool but I don't want to play EVE really. As long as the synergy with eve is in such a way that my experience with dust 514 isn't negatively impacted by only playing one game, i'm down to try this out.

#33 Edited by Wonloong (353 posts) -

Yeap. Looks like another shooter alright. Guess we need more of these, huh.

#34 Posted by PieGuy (313 posts) -

I wonder how the serious massive companies will trial you to fight for them, if they are spending serious ISK to help support you they will want results.

Crazy concept for a crazy MMO, I'm not into MMOs but this integration is insane.

#35 Posted by teekomeeko (618 posts) -

The concept is definitely nutty and unique enough to pique my interest despite a general dislike of FPS titles and 99% of MMOs. I look forward to hearing more about this.

#36 Posted by tourgen (4427 posts) -

Excited for this. This could be really fun depending on how much interaction between the two game systems make it into both games.

#37 Posted by Bunny_Fire (290 posts) -

so does this mean that i now have to protect my planetary installations by paying people playing on Ps3 with Isk???

#38 Posted by DarthB (247 posts) -

I feel like a dick for saying it, but this just feels like another me too online shooter. It looks very generic and fucking boring. Only thing that can save it is super kick ass gameplay, nothing else.

#39 Posted by Crash_Happy (654 posts) -

@Bunny_Fire: Yes.

#40 Posted by raiz265 (2234 posts) -

ps3 exclusive?

i don't get it.

like at all!

why?

#41 Posted by 1UStasis (36 posts) -
@DarthB:  I would agree with you except that CCP doesn't seem interested in being mundane. That's pretty much the only reason I am excited for this game.
#42 Edited by MeatSim (10765 posts) -

MMO developer making a shooter, that's weird.

@Crash_Happy: o well ... it might be fun .... and they better do a good job :D

#46 Posted by advocatefish (355 posts) -

The game looks bland but the idea behind could awesome.

#47 Posted by swfcfan (264 posts) -

Hmmm this looks like another PS3 Halo wannabe like Haze was. At least this one has no sign of yellow body armor in it!

#48 Posted by Mikemcn (6955 posts) -

Eve Online Players are going to hate that this exists.
