With the limited amount of shelf space in stores why is it that people keep buying Dynasty Warriors games?  It forces retailers to use up shelf space for games that change less than Madden between each sequel.  Can someone please tell me why you decide to buy each new installment?  Please.

A friend of mine is absolutely in love with the series and I asked him this exact same question to which he answer "well you kill  a lot of people all the time and that is great" , its a mindset i guess.

They probably enjoy the gameplay and I'm sure fans of the series could clearly articulate the differences between each release in such a way that the sequels and expansion packs would seem justified to them. I mean, to an outside observer, all of the Pokemon games or Mega Man games look the same. Why bother spending any time buying any of the new ones?

One of my friends bought DW6 for the full $60 purchase price because he'd been following them since DW3. He regretted every cent and hides it in the deep, dark recesses of his game collection because he hates it.

Because the taste people have in games are all over the place, so even the ones that without a doubt should of had their series stopped 5+ games ago will have some dedicated people who continue to buy them everytime.

If you're really into the game then you will do anything for that next level up of the same experience. It's the same with most things really. When people find something they like, they want to stay up to date with it. No matter how much (or little) changes are made from game to game. The 3-4 added characters and few new levels are enough. I personally don't see it either though.

    I know.
    It's depressing.

Fortunately though, here in Portugal just about... nobody even ever heard of that franchise.
    So the games never leave.
    And they still occupy space.
    Damn.

also since when does the quality of a game dictate shelf space?
the whole shelf space argument is really stupid.
Before you cry about a good game like DW, remember games like M&M Racing and Hana Montana take up more space.
get those off the shelf first and then we'll talk.

just picked up DW5. I like collecting things in games and DW has a ton of things to unlock.  So it scratches my gaming itch. Does it have problems? Yes. Is it a great series? No. but it does what it does well enough for me.

Personally I really don't understand the FPS player mindset. Shoot dude in face. rinse, repeat.

And yeah you want to talk about sports games taking up store space, why can't EA just release roster updates and release new content every 2-3 years. Who the hell buys a new Madden game every year. That person has problems  if you ask me.

I bought Dynasty Warriors Gundam and spent 60-70 hours getting all of the achievements. I've been a big fan of these hack 'n slash games since I saw Kessen on the PS2 in a KB Toys. Granted it was a bit more tactical than current DWs, but it soon became the formula we have now. The games are pretty awesome and it's just plain fun.

Because they are fun as hell with friends, just sitting around and powertripping. Besides, there are far worse games that take up shelf space. Money drives what is put on shelves, it's not like there's some brilliant game that is not able to get on shelves specifically because of DW. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean those who do are wrong in any way.

I wont lie, these games are kinda fun but, you only need to play one, and only one.  I borrowed Dynasty Warriors 4 from my friend a few years ago and had fun with it.  After that I will probably never play another one.

You want to know why we buy Dynasty Warriors games?  I'll tell you why.  They're fun.  They are repetitive, but they are fun.  Rushing into the battlefield swinging oversized weapons at hordes of yellow turban rebellion dudes as you hear generic war cries  the entire time.  Hearing, laughing, and - in the end - ENJOYING the horrid voice acting as each boss threatens your very life.  Taking on Cao Cao for the 150th time while the electric guitar howls in the background.  Feeling the rush when you engage you're musou attack on 30 enemies, simultaneously throwing their bodies everywhere while your character does some sort of insane dance of death.  And yeah they added siege weapons, and yeah they changed the costumes, and yeah they made samurai warriors but that means nothing.  Fans come back to these games time and time again because we love the ridiculousness of it all!  We enjoy something a little different.  We play them because we like them.

And no, it's not Call of Duty, or Halo, or Gears of War.  No color coded death matches for hours killing strangers and tea bagging them.  And there's no sports in it, no types of balls going into any type of apparatus in this game.  It's not main stream.  This is what makes it different.  This is what makes it unique.  Embrace the strange games once in a while, fellow Giant Bombers.  Maybe you'll find something you like....maybe you won't.  But once in a while, take a chance and play something that doesn't have an athlete on the cover, or a first person gun perspective.  Who knows?  Maybe you'll find a new genre you like.

You get to be a total badass on a chinese battlefield and rush into a group of peons and completely destroy everything. For me though, I have Samurai Warriors 2, so it's a japanese battlefield. Just adding to the fire!

I used to play these games like crazy, but ever since the current generation consoles came out I have put Dynasty/Samurai Warriors down.  However, I do occasionally go back to it and try to unlock everything that I hadn't before.  I think I liked it much more before was due to the amount of stuff you could unlock and the fact that it was mindless destruction, I now know that its not a good game but it still is fun to play occasionally.

I'm a loot whore, and this franchise totally satiates that need.

It also used to be tough as goddamn nails on the highest difficulties, but now that you have Infinite Musou moves available on characters, it's not that difficult at ALL...especially with Wei Yan.

Some people like arcade beat'em'ups where you get to level up your characters and try for challenging achievements and objectives, and unlock a bunch of items and characters and stuff.

And each new installment adds new features, new maps, new objectives, and tells stories differently.

So I hope that answers your question. Why do people keep buying generic racist Triple A shooters?
