Eddie Guerrero is a former professional wrestler for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and numerous Lucha Libre promotions including AAA, CMLL, and WWA. He was a member of the famous Guerrero wrestling family; his father was the great Gory Guerrero, and his brothers include Chavo Guerrero Sr. (father of Chavo Guerrero Jr.) and Hector Guerrero (perhaps best known in the US as the man in the Gobbledy Gooker costume). As a child Eddie grew up with a wrestling ring in his backyard and he would wrestle with his nephew Chavo Jr. in front of people when they were kids.
Guerrero's first breakout angle in wrestling was as part of La Pareja del Terror (The Pair of Terror), a villainous tag team with the late Art Barr in AAA, which became one of the most hated tag teams in Mexico. It was Art Barr who innovated Eddie's most famous signature move, the frog splash; Eddie adopted the move as a tribute to Barr after his untimely death in 1994. His first break in the United States came in ECW, where he wrestled the likes of Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit in critically acclaimed matches. During his time in ECW, Guerrero won the ECW Television championship twice. He joined World Championship Wrestling in 1995, and at Starrcade '96 he defeated Diamond Dallas Page in the finals of a tournament to win the WCW United States championship. After losing the US title, he feuded with Chris Jericho over the WCW Cruiserweight championship, a title he would win on two occasions.
Guerrero debuted in WWF/E in 2000, as part of a group of WCW defectors called The Radicalz with Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, and Perry Saturn. Guerrero was a 3-time WWE Tag Team Champion (with Chavo Guerrero Jr. twice and Rey Mysterio once), a 2-time Intercontinental Champion, a 2-time WWE European Champion, and a former WWE Champion. His most famous gimmick in WWE was as a dishonest, cunning, lovable rogue character, who would lie, cheat, and steal to get ahead of the competition. Eddie was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006. As a WWE Superstar, Eddie appeared in many of the Smackdown games.
Eddie Guerrero died on November 13th, 2005 due to a result of acute heart failure arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. He is survived by his wife, Vickie, and three daughters, Shaul Marie, Sherilyn Amber and Kaylie Marie. After his death, Vickie performed for WWE as a non-wrestler until 2014, and she managed and then was part of a romance storyline with Edge. Eddie and Vickie's daughter Shaul Marie also became a professional wrestler, and was part of WWE's developmental promotions from 2010 to 2014; she married wrestler Matthew Rehwoldt, who performs in WWE as Aiden English, in 2016.
