Hello EVEryone!

I hope some of you have heard or seen the thread that AhmadMetallic made regarding a huge PC Gaming Hub for the community. It’s a big project and me (VisariLoyalist), Renahzor and Althox are leading the way for the EVE community to be a part of this.

As I’ve said, it’s a big project, and it will take time, but we will do our best!

EVE is a hard nut to crack; since it’s big, divided, horrible, and all too lovely to ignore. The first thing we will do is try to figure out something that the whole community can be a part of, and we have one event in mind (To be announced!). But then there are things to do beside newbie events, like tournaments, exploring, dare-deviling, PvE, sneaky PvP or what have you.

This is the biggest thing to happen to the community since the start of the Giantbomb corp back in the year (something). We hope we can revitalize the giantbomb community to be involved in a supportive eve venture once again.

So, if you’re an EVE veteran and know what the game is all about and have experience enough to be confident around new people; we’d appreciate if you could stand in line with us and help out.

When can we expect this to kick off?

It will probably take a few weeks or so to sort things out, regarding the events, crash courses, corporation, ships and modules and other important things. We could of course get started much sooner on the preparation if you are already playing EVE and want to get involved join us in the Giantbomb Channel!

I’m new to EVE Online, what is it?

EVE Online is an MMORPG/RTS. You basically take control of a spaceship via your so called “Pod” which uses the pilots, “Capsuleers”, implants to control the ship.

All capsuleers are clones, or are going to become one, which makes you immortal, in one way.

EVE Online is all about money, and fooling around. A few different aspects of the game can include the popular PvE styles of gaming, “mission running” or production.

But there is of course war to have, in favors of your own, or others. Since EVE is a sandbox game, one is never safe from harm, or threat. So, first rule of EVE is always: “Trust no one.”

The opening tutorial missions can provide a lot of helpful skillbooks and tips and tricks so do be sure to do as many of those as you can if you plan on getting into eve. Beyond that eve throws the poor new player into the cold unknown so to speak, but that's where this community comes in.

Eve has a notorious reputation as an unforgiving game that chews up newcomers and veterans alike into a fine pulp. It's true that losing a ship is a somewhat traumatic experience to players young and old but we hope to change that frustrating experience into a fun one where players can learn and explore what eve has to offer. So we hope you will find eve is not such a monstrous place with duders around to fly with!

Where can I find more information regarding EVE?

If you are new, you’re going to find this game hard to get in to, and it will be a bit challenging, but that’s why we veterans are here!

Of course there are tutorials in the game that will explain the very basics of EVE; and don’t skip them!

And there are also huge databases with information for beginners, as well as tips and tricks.

Tutorial videos can easily be searched for on Youtube.

Hell, I've been looking for something like this ever since I tried it out. I'd love to have people to cruise the skies with. I haven't really found purpose in this awesome world that I want to do stuff in.

Don't you worry. We'll be holding regular operations running. It's just the events that are a bit more unusual.

So I randomly tried to start playing this game again over the weekend... found it just as inaccessible as before (maybe a little less). I'll try hopping in the chat channel here and there.

Can anyone recommend any online guides that really explain these systems, though? The tutorials do some of it well, but I find they don't really give me the full overview I want. Most of the guides are just about "making ISK", which I know is the core of the game, but I'd love a primer on all the basics of ship systems, combat, professions, etc. in one place.

Maybe I'm too much of a WoW player for this game... but I'm determined to give it a real shot, especially now that I have a nice computer that can run it smooth and pretty.

EDIT: I just ran into the ISK guide (http://www.isktheguide.com/) which looks like exactly what I was asking for, plus it's free. Basically it's a 400 page manual for the game, sleekly put together in a PDF, might be worth adding to the OP just for completeness.

In this case, ISK stands for 'Industrial-Sized Knowledgebase.' Free and made by players for players. This and the Eve wiki are what helped me to understand the game.

@BabyChooChoo: Wow... you posted that almost the same time that I put up my edit about how I found ISK the guide. Thanks for the response though! This is a lot of material to look through.

You can never learn everything over a weekend in EVE. It takes time. Hell, I've been playing for 4 years and still have no clue on some issues. But if the wikis and the player guide is of no use, ask people ingame. Since there is a starter corp, and there's always someone in there, ask away! :)

Just in case anyone is glancing at this thread and still thinking about getting involved with EVE, I just want to point out as a newbie that I got a lot of help from a fellow bomber online last night, and I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish in this game.

Also, there is a very well-narrated series of videos produced by someone from EVE University, first video is here.

Anyway, hope to see some other people from the GB crew around!

@bcjohnnie: Im glad you got some help, hopefully we'll see more GB peeps, but we are planning a community even of sorts so hopefully once we start that up we'll see some good participation! The more people you have to BS with and hang out with in EVE the longer you're likely to stick around and find the fun things to do.

I have been playing EVE for a bit now, know a thing or two. I will hop on the Giantbomb channel next time I log in.

Id really love to play again but I do not have the money. I had a real good charcter but again 15 bucks a month right now is not in the budget. It really sucks to tell the truth.  
 
I could make a nice chunk of ISK daily. Had a nice bit stored up as well. On my way to even fly a carrier.

It's probably about time to say anything about this project that we kicked off a few months ago. We had/have things in mind to do this, but as most of you probably know; life gets in the way of things and things get postponed. So, what I'm actually saying is that this project is being put on ice until further notice. I'm struggling with school and one is preparing for a wedding and the other... I honestly don't know about what he's up to right now. But by the Amarrian god! We ARE going to kick this thing off sooner or later... Just not right now.

UNLESS!!! someone is willing to stand up and take this thing in his/hers hands and carry it out. (though I doubt that will happen since it comes with a lot of work and cooperation with others to pull it off.)

I for one look forward to do these kinds of events and gatherings to hype the activity in the game and our tiny community here on GiantBomb!
