Thinking of starting a concept page for this, but can't think of the name for it. I know this often happens in open world games. Maybe its due to limited draw distance, i don't know. Any Ideas?

Is this when like recently horses have like, 3 frames of animation when theres a few of em on screen but at a distance on Red dead redemption? cos that bugs the hell out of me!

yeah, i remember Driver 3 suffered really badly from this. It happened when you were like ten feet from someone.

This is an extension of LOD (level of detail) popping. So if there is an LOD page it should just be added to that page. Its the same idea which is that you remove tweening from a model to prevent rendering of things the player generally won't see.

Yeah animations getting more stilted in the distance is part of LOD scaling.

My favorite is when characters just become big blocks from really far away and then slide across the ground. BRILLIANT!

This is actually an interesting concept, I too find this happening all the time.
