I've been asked by my sister to give me nephew a racing game for his 360. Now my first thought was Forza 3 - but then I thought he's ten or eleven - is it going to be a bit boring for him? I mean I like it - and I don't go for the arcadey 'Need for speed' 'Burnout' sort of games, so what do you think? Am i being paranoid? Should I just get him another copy of Forza 3 ? (I have Forza 3 and think it's great!)
Or is there something else that would be more suitable for a 10/11 year old? If so what?!
Another Christmas conundrum - your thoughts?

I'd say Forza is a bad choice unless he's really into cars (the technical side of cars). If he's like all the 10/11 year-olds I've ever known (mostly relatives) then he'd probably like something a whole lot more arcadey like Grid or Dirt or at the other end: Hot Pursuit (who doesn't like cop chases?).
Or actually, Burnout is probably the best choice and I doubt that any kid doesn't like blowing cars up.
Don't get a 10 year old Forza. I have horrible memories of trying to figure out Gran Turismo when I was that young, shit's just confusing when the car doesn't do what you expect as a 10 year old.
The new NFS is perfect though in terms of great arcade racing, very simple, but very fun and lots of awesome car chases. Kids would eat that up.
I also think that Forza 3 would not be a good choice for him. I think he would want something current too, so Hot Pursuit has been all over the gaming press, he might have even tried the free demo already, and his friends at school might be talking about it, while Burnout is not that current any more, Hot Pursuits is quite likely to still be in the charts at Christmas.
Burnout is straight up the best deal this side of Orange Box, and I agree that Forza is way to deep for a young-un unless he LOVES cars. I personally found it damn confusing.
So I vote for Burnout, or NfS if you must.
Forza might be interesting if you play it with him and guide him around a bit. And if he likes cars, then he'll probably be at least a little interested in it.
To be honest, I don't even know what ten year olds like. I don't remember what I played when I was that old.
" Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts...is not a racing game.

I think he wants a game that is a 'racing game' not one with races in it. That said, Need for Speed : Hot Pursuit sounds pretty cool for 10 yr olds, not my cup of tea but I think he'd like that. One problem though, it sounds quite geared to multiplayer, his mum won't let him play on XBox Live - is the split-screen any good? What about the 1 player campaign?
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing is pretty much a 1:1 Mario Kart clone with different skins - in other words it's great, simple, a lot of fun, and perfect for kids.
If you'd like to get him something with real cars, though, maybe Blur wouldn't be a bad idea.
Unless you want him to have a good game for online. Because I'm pretty sure everyone's forgotten Blur exists.
I say go with Forza. Ir has a ton of assists, so I think it would be perfectly playable for him. I remember liking GT and this other racing game I had on Genesis back in the day. Depends on the person of course, but I think most people would like Forza.
I'd say go with Burnout Paradise.
A nice, cheap and awesomely fun racing game.
Then again, if you already have a copy of Forze maybe play it with him to see if it clicks?
Burnout Paradise.
It's been out for a while, so I bet you can pick up a copy real cheap.
The Sonic All-Stars Racing is a good idea too, but with him being eleven...I don't know, all the kids I've met around that age like to try and act older than they really are. Getting him a kart racer might appear condescending.
Then again, I might be putting too much thought into it.
