For my money, it's got to be the Neo Geo Pocket Color. You get a charming animation with an equally charming little song. I turn it on and I can't help but grin. Second would have to be the Sega Dreamcast's with the bouncing dot and the echoing drip sounds. And third would definitely be the Gamecube's.

Least favorite would be the DS. It's kind of a dull tone with minimal animation and then a BIG FAT WARNING on the lower screen. Talk about a kill-joy.

Honorable mention goes to the PS1 start up.

 Thoughts?

@Captainlunchbox: objection!
I love the DS start up screen. I think the noise is great and the little animation is charming. Yeah, there's a warning screen, but other games shove them in anyways, this one just does it from the start.

And the tone changes on your birthday.

Also you can move the cube yourself, so it's obviously the best.

Actually, I just pulled out my NGP and it is pretty good. I would run that a second, but the GCN is still way ahead.

The Dreamcast's, without a doubt. After that it's a tie between the original PS's and the Gamecube's.

Oh the memories! The largest portion of my gaming life was spent playing the GameCube. PSO, you were so good to me.

Dreamcast is definitely my favorite. The original PS one gives me a nice feeling of nostalgia, but I never much like it at the time. I really like the old 360 boot screen but got bored of it after a few years. The gamecube one was cool and the PSP one is short and sweet.

The PS1's boot was just pure awesomeness. All the intros now are underwhelming.

I'm also going to go with the Gamecube.

Also, while they may not be the best, I have some fond memories of the classic Game Boy and Game Boy Advance start-ups.

Also, also, for those that can't remember (or never experienced) some of the older ones, here's a bunch in one video.

Blue/Yellow are also acceptable.

Also tied:

Crystal was my game. I so wish that Nintendo had remade Crystal as well, regardless of the fact that I'd be shelling out extra money for essentially the same game. I love it that much.

My least favourite would probably be Mac OS. I mean, I like my MacBook a lot, but the startup screen and the tone that accompanies it is so damn boring.

@extremeradical: I like it, myself. Simple, straightforward, and to the point. It tells you that the computer is booting up, and it's booting up in OS X. The tone is a bit annoying, but that's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Note that this isn't EXACTLY on topic, but I feel the need to mention it anyways...

You know the "Microsoft Games" thing? The one where the two greenish, watery lines cross eachother?

That thing is awesome. I wish they'd just use that for Microsoft period. The bootup for Windows 7 looks like crap (as usual).

I can't for the life of me find it on youtube. Bleh.

Yup, the Gamecube was my first modern home console, so plugging it in and seeing the boot-up for the first time was probably one of the most mind-blowing moments of my life. And imagine my surprise when I found out that YOU CAN INTERRUPT THE BOOT-UP AND CHANGE THE CONSOLE SETTINGS HOLY FUCK.

I'm suspecting that the 3DS start-screen will be my new favorite, though.

Gamecube is my favorite.  You can move the logo around, and you can change the sound.

It is if you forget to turn the volume down before you start it during, say, an english lecture.

That has happened to me before.

Definitely the Gamecube.
