Pid had a pretty awesome and unique soundtrack, though it is a bit difficult to find a lot of the music on Youtube.
Best soundtrack of the generation?
I'm more of a "Specific song" kind of guy, rather than a "general soundtrack" guy. Here's a few I liked a lot;
None of you fucks said Braid? You all disgust me.
I'm not going to argue against the Hotline Miami fans (but you're wrong), but it's between Fez, Braid and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Braid wins best licensed music for me.
Also, that one track in Pac-Man Championship Edition DX deserves an honourable mention.
I'm not a fan of picking one favorite for anything so here's some of my favorites:
- Halo 3, ODST, Reach, and 4
- Mass Effect Trilogy
- Bayonetta
- Gears 3
- MGS4
- Asura's Wrath
- FFXIV and ARR
- Fez
- Lost Odyssey
- Mario Galaxy
- PoP '08
And I've not completed Neir yet but what I've heard makes me strongly suspect it will be on this list as well.
My cheat answers:
- Persona 3 and 4
- FF: Theatrythym
- Monkey Island special editions
Hotline Miami, Max Payne 3, Mirror's Edge, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, The Binding of Isaac, and what's been revealed of GTA 5's is looking to be great.
Can't pick just one:
- Halo 3: ODST
- Hotline Miami
- FTL
- Mass Effect 2
- Skyrim
- Bionic Commando ReArmed
- Metal Gear Rising

If it has not been mentioned before, Hotline MIami for me.

@animasta: When isn't your answer Nier for like...anything? =p
When asked "Worst game of all time" maybe?
Or hell, maybe Nier is the answer for basically everything :P
"So what did you do today?"
"Nier"
"What's for dinner?"
"Nier"
"Where's the sheriff?"
"Nier"
There is no best and many listed here are great. Let me offer an alternative:
Haven't seen anyone post any rap so here's some good rap in an okay game.
@alehud42: I love the Galaxy music, I just can't seem to view it as current gen :)
Dark Souls has the best individual track.
Agreed. I get tingles every goddamn time I hear that song.
For me Cohen's Masterpiece from Bioshock is easily my favorite bit of music from the last decade. It's so dark and has a grandeur of an older time. For me is represents perfectly what Rapture became after its destruction.
Of everything I've played in the last generation? I'd have to say Xenoblade Chronicles iswayoutinfront with Fez and Nier as runners-up. That's a hell of a lot of games to narrow down though, and a hell of a lot more I haven't had the chance to play (and listen to) yet. I should state that my choices are on the strength of the entire soundtrack and not on any individual stand-out track. I'd be here all day if it we were concerned with the latter.
I really, really, REALLY love the music from the Phoenix Wright games. But the best Soundtrack? Damn...Deus Ex? Bastion? Mass Effect 1? Assassin's Creed 2? Mirror's Edge? Metroid Prime 3? Don't make me choose, I love them all
Man, I HATED the ending of Mass Effect 3, but the song that plays during that horrible disappointment of a finale is amazing.
I also love Suicide Mission from Mass Effect 2.
My absolute favorite is the original Mass Effect. That soundtrack needs more love here. Maybe my 2nd favorite of all time behind megaman 2. Second would have to be FTL. One of the few soundtracks I listen to outside of the game.
Honorable mentions to Skyrim (great theme, wandering music), Borderlands (maybe my favorite action/combat music) and Dark Souls (just awesome epic boss song after awesome epic boss song).
I think I might be the only person on these forums that doesn't really like the Hotline Miami soundtrack that much.
