Best soundtrack of the generation?

Pid had a pretty awesome and unique soundtrack, though it is a bit difficult to find a lot of the music on Youtube.

I'm more of a "Specific song" kind of guy, rather than a "general soundtrack" guy. Here's a few I liked a lot;

Hotline Miami

Xenoblade Chronicles would be my pick. I find many of the songs to be utterly enchanting.

None of you fucks said Braid? You all disgust me.

I'm not going to argue against the Hotline Miami fans (but you're wrong), but it's between Fez, Braid and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Braid wins best licensed music for me.

Also, that one track in Pac-Man Championship Edition DX deserves an honourable mention.

Depends what you're looking for, game soundtracks cover a lot of genre's. For instance Jeremy Soule's work on the Skyrim soundtrack easily gives Howard Shore a run for his money when stacked up against the work he did for Lord of The Rings.

If we're all going to vote for Hotline Miami, then that opens the floodgates for licensed soundtracks. So I vote for Rock Band as a whole.

I use the FTL music when I don't wanna hear what's going on around me. I don't like songs with people talking in them so it works well.

FEZ or FTL I think.

Shatter

The Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are just generic bombast loud modern day soundtrack I found to be profoundly better then the Han Zimer's score of the Dark Knight films.

Persona 4 golden The music for persona 3 and 4 has a annual live concert in japan. Does your game have that? I didn't think so. This year's concert actually just happened like a month ago.

If Ninendo would have shut up shop at the end of 2007, I wouldn't have cared because they left us with this masterpiece. The music is so well crafted and appropriate to the myriad of gameplay environments.

Final Fantasy XI is the only game soundtrack i can play without having to skip tracks to find a song i like.

So much great music this generation. I don't think I can even come close to picking my favorite, much less the best. Here's one I didn't see listed that I really dig. Does it count since it was PC & iOS only?

For me Cohen's Masterpiece from Bioshock is easily my favorite bit of music from the last decade. It's so dark and has a grandeur of an older time. For me is represents perfectly what Rapture became after its destruction.

+1 to Bastion and Hotline Miami. Gonna throw some Mass Effect into the mix.

Of everything I've played in the last generation? I'd have to say Xenoblade Chronicles iswayoutinfront with Fez and Nier as runners-up. That's a hell of a lot of games to narrow down though, and a hell of a lot more I haven't had the chance to play (and listen to) yet. I should state that my choices are on the strength of the entire soundtrack and not on any individual stand-out track. I'd be here all day if it we were concerned with the latter.

FEZ - OST by Disasterpeace

Easily one of the best soundtracks of the generation. An incredibly solid mashup of nostalgia and modern glitch:

Man, I HATED the ending of Mass Effect 3, but the song that plays during that horrible disappointment of a finale is amazing.

I also love Suicide Mission from Mass Effect 2.

My absolute favorite is the original Mass Effect. That soundtrack needs more love here. Maybe my 2nd favorite of all time behind megaman 2. Second would have to be FTL. One of the few soundtracks I listen to outside of the game.

Honorable mentions to Skyrim (great theme, wandering music), Borderlands (maybe my favorite action/combat music) and Dark Souls (just awesome epic boss song after awesome epic boss song).

I think I might be the only person on these forums that doesn't really like the Hotline Miami soundtrack that much.

This generation had a lot of really strong soundtracks. But off the top of my head Super Meat Boy and Bionic Commando Rearmed are definitely up there.

To the Moon is the best soundtrack, to those who've played the game (or story, I should say).

There are many great tracks - this one is my favourite.
